I agree they're trying to stopgap until Mayer, Rafaela, Casas, etc are ready. But what Bloom doesn't realize and Henry doesn't care about is the fans in Boston don't accept down years... when means less relevance and income while you wait. It started at the trade deadline last year.. they neither gave up not went for it, instead making a couple random useless trades and letting alot of assets walk in free agency instead of getting prospects.
The thing is they DID develop their own talent, they just choose not to keep it.. to let them all walk and hoping you do it again is terrible management.

They never should have let IGlesias go when they had him play 2nd base for Sept. a couple years back... the guy is a machine on defense and not a terrible singles hitter.
I suspect Andrus is washed up, but might be better than Arroyo, and definitely is better than misc. Worester player when Arroyo gets hurt.
Duvall is not a bad flyer.. at best, he give similar numbers as they got from Hunter Renfroe, which would be great with this line up. If he can't go, then not alot of money spent.

..or possibly the Archie artist didn't know about guitars Finished my 'Treasury of British Comics' collection of Black Max today(one of the books I picked up when Rebellion had their big year end sale)... I suspect Driver and some of our other British friends are familar.. its a WWI fighter mag where the title character, Black Max, has a giant bat he uses to attack the British. It starts out semi-realistic, and has a particular British flyer as the hero, but it gets more and more far out as it goes. Fun stuff, if a bit repetitive when reading it as a collection.

where those British anthologies published by different companies? That's a really different thing than going from two single books to a team up.. it would be more like IDW and Dynamite merging or something...

For me, I'd say about a trade's worth in one sitting so 6-8 issues. Defintely less for Silver Age stuff... more like 3-4.

One of the things manga has over American comic books is that they are finite series. The only real parallel with American comics is self-published works, although there are imprints that have also produced finite works. Personally, I would have accepted the peaks and valleys of an ongoing American comic book if they'd never rebooted the titles, but the constant relaunches are confusing. It's a totally different thing in manga.. they don't have shared universes, so there's no reason to protect an IP. While there are some series where the characters are essentially ageless (Case Closed is the prime example), for the most part, they are no afraid to let their character grow, develop, age and die. Granted that's less good for IP (good manga tends to have it's time, then fade), but it is far better for the stories, IMO.

Read a couple Challengers of the Unknown today from the Showcase volume.. fun 12 pages with some cool art. A bit basic storywise, but definitely worth reading. There was one where their memories get stolen and June has to tell them all what to do that's really fun, my fave of the bunch for sure.

Never bad to have some competition in spring I suspect you're right that management things they can muddle through this year and 2024 will be good. I'm not sure fan pressure will allow CHaim Bloom to have a job if they go 70-92 this year though. It'll certainly be interesting. One guy I was sorta hoping they might grab on a short term deal to help that signed to day... Trey Mancini to the Cubs.

I found the 1st one bad and the 2nd one unwatchable, so I'm not the target for this movie... but I agree with you on Mantis. She's not a character I love from the comics away, but turning her into Starfire from Teen Titans Go! is a bit mean.

Fire with Fire Charles Gannon
I've been looking for a good series to get me out of my reader's block, and I was hoping this was it. I'm a big fan of Baen books in general, so I thought I'd give this one a shot.
There are definitely some positive bits, Gannon's handle on realpolitik was very good. His world on 100ish years in the future is pretty reasonable (given the tech advances), with blocs, but not quite a world government and rising corporate power, you can definitely see that being the case.
Then, of course, there are the aliens. They are of the Star Trek variety, complete with the equilivent of Vulcans and Klingons... mostly humanoid and all speaking English and having similar emotions and motivations as humans.
That's not terrible, but definitely the opposite of the current trend (though of course that trend hadn't happened yet when this was written. The story, for that, was pretty engaging, but the characters are a problem.. they are absolutely perfect in every way... very annoying.
Its good enough that I'm interested to see where it's going and read the next one, but not the best.

I'd bet there could easily be a class on Astro City. That'd be much more interesting than people trying to out-sophisticate each other analyzing Moore . Kingdom Come could at least be a good essay.. maybe not a whole class. I'm not saying he's not a good writer, I just don't really like him that much, other than V for Vendetta, though I admit I haven't read Swamp Thing... just not a character I have any interest in. My favorite Morrison I've read is his JLA (he really nailed the Kyle/Wally/J'onn Jonzz relationship), and I'm quite sure I'm alone in that... I've tried to read Doom Patrol and Animal Man a couple times and failed.
