So what's your preference in restaurants/eating establishments while dining out? Do you prefer the chain style restaurants or do you prefer the local places? What's your reasoning for it?

For me I prefer the local places. I just find that the quality is better, they are more friendly and welcoming, and it let's you try things that may not be on the typical menu of a chain place.

I like the chains. I favor super swift service because I only ever eat out on lunch breaks.

I like both, depending on what I'm looking for. Basically I'm looking for the best food, best price, and what I'm in the mood for. Sometimes that will be a chain, sometimes a local place. Since there wasn't an option for both, I didn't vote.

I prefer Local Establishments over Chain because the food is more fresher, tastier, and they won't let you go hungry and sometimes the price is moderate to inexpensive. I just ate a local establishment for an early dinner that you get a BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich, French Fries, Coleslaw, Lemonade, and One Scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream all for $12 with tax included.

I try to support local businesses, but the truth is there are so many great ones where I live that there really isn't any reason to visit a chain restaurant. The only one I ever go to is for Mexican because there aren't many of those around. I find local places much more homey and welcoming, especially if you've built up a relationship from going there often. Chains are likely to have a lot of staff turnover and you don't really get to know anyone. I guess some people find comfort in "knowing what you're getting" at a chain, but I prefer the individuality of the local places.

If it's up to me I don't ever eat at a chain restaurant. Unfortunately...It's not always up to me.

I have seen too much of that in my job in recent years. Years ago people could actually make a decision. Hence why they is no option "C" for both.

Some of the best places are little holes in the wall with that homey feel that's always welcoming and people converse and get to know one another.

While there are some chain restaurants that I like in the world, I much prefer local restaurants. As others have said, the quality and freshness of the food is much better. I also enjoy getting to know the owners and staff of local restaurants.

I prefer local, mom and pop restaurants over chain franchises. Unfortunately, the local delights are scattered where I live and are often hard for me to get to.

Since there wasn't an option for both, I didn't vote. That's my feeling as well, it really depends on my mood and the kind of food I want. I mean if it was more specific, like say do you prefer local or chain Italian it would be more clean cut(local) but in general? No such luck.

See I don't subscribe to that as it doesn't make you think about what option you would truly choose. hence no third option. So that people said if you truly had to choose between one or the other what would it be?

I also enjoy getting to know the owners and staff of local restaurants. Yeah it's nice connecting with others and truly getting to know the owners/staff. Find out who they are as people and why the decided to do what they do. After becoming a regular people will often wonder if anything happened to you if they haven't seen you in awhile.
