Yeah, I think I'm going to get that when it comes out. I'm a big fan of his podcast on Dr. Doom, Voice of Latveria, which was recommended here a while back

Any sign of the Werewolf By Night #32 facsimile edition yet? DC cancelled all their facsimile editions and dollar reprints. Not sure if Marvel followed suit. Purportedly to not flood comic shops with too much inventory coming out of the shut down, but I take the rationale with a grain of salt. -M It's probably because they sell better than a lot of the modern stuff, but with a much lower price point, and lower profit margin. The intention was to whet the whistle for certain properties that had Omnibi, etc. coming out, but now they are selling well on their own. But, just like the demise of newsstand comics... it was a hassle to deliver and stock comic books and a hassle for store owners to maintain them for so little profit, no one wanted to sell them, hence the direct market. A few years ago, Dan Didio was griping at an appearance about how he couldn't figure out why the "old stuff" sold better than the new content DC was publishing.. I remember these reprint issues being mentioned by name.

"With the imminent publication of Hogan's Alley #23, we're doing something we've never done before: making the issue available as a preorder. (Subscribing for four issues saves you money over the long run, but we understand that not everyone has an extra $26 sitting around.) Preordering means you'll receive the issue when subscribers receive their copies, and it will ensure that you actually get a copy, without relying on its spotty availability at newsstands and shops. We're sold out of many issues, and we expect this one to go quickly, so please act now by clicking the link below: www.hoganmag.com/stores/preorder-hogans-alley-23 "

There a new printing of Alex Toth Genius Isolated available to preorder in this months catalog (Previews maybe? Our shop uses the online Comics Hub which combines all the catalogs to a single listing for customers and I saw it there). It's been out of print for a while and copies are pricey.

That looks really awesome! By going up to Detective #257, it almost gets to the point where my consecutive issues start. I might get it ... but I still have to get those issues of Detective so I can read Roy Raymond and the Martian Manhunter!

Oh dang, you're right about the backup features Martian Manhunter I think had at least the B&W Showcase volumes with those stories, but yeah, the originals would be the whole package and in color. I'll likely still get this, but a good reminder on those features.

I'll likely still get this, but a good reminder on those features. Roy Raymond and the Martian Manhunter have really grown on me! Roy's assistant is named Karen. And because the dialogue is all-caps and the only punctuation is exclamation points, it looks like he's yelling at her. And calling her a Karen. And he's usually yelling at her because she said something sensible. He comes off as completely deranged! It would be so easy to bring Roy Raymond and Karen back in the modern DC Universe! He's a reality show host! As for the Martian Manhunter, I have the first Showcase volume (and I will eventually get the second one). But I still like reading the Martian Manhunter as part of the package (IN COLOR!) whenever I get a new issue of Detective Comics. (I think I'm getting close to the issue where he helps a stray dog (a basset hound) that saves his life when it drags him away from a fire. They should have made the dog a permanent supporting character!) I think the Martian Manhunter would make a great TV show, set it in the 1950s and 1960s, it's in northern Florida, with Captain Harding, Diane Meade, Zook and the basset hound. It could be a great (and maybe even perceptive) of 1950s sitcoms and cop shows, and maybe even the 1950s in general.

Quick FYI that the late Bill Schelly's biography of James Warren, James Warren, Empire of Monsters, is back in print in a paperback edition. It's been out of print for a while and used copies were prohibitively expensive. These are the kind of books you kind of have to jump on because the print run is usually very small and you're not likely to find cheap used copies.

I have read some horror magazines here, such as Fangoria (not in years, though). I have seen a LOT of covers of Famous Monsters but I have never come across an issue, not at car boot sales, comic conventions, etc. I wonder, during its time, did it reach the UK? I did read a short article about the magazine, though. I’d certainly read more about them - and James Warren.

I picked this up as soon as it became available, since I'd been kicking myself for missing out on the original edition. It's a well-researched book and a lot of folks show up in it. And since Warren was a publisher rather than a creator, there's a lot of good info on the market in the 60s-70s and how publishers viewed/interacted with the growing fan community.

Stumbled on the Warren bio when searching the online catalogue of a Canadian mega book chain that is well stocked in Fantagraphics, TwoMorrows, etc, looking to spend an Xmas gift card. Quickly purchased this. Great timing for me, because yeah, this will probably disappear soon
