I thought the teaser was well done. Getting to see Mark Hamill as a masterful Jedi Master is going to be, as the kids say, "badass." Still, my fingers are crossed that the movie will recapture the spirit of Star Wars (specifically, Empire) and that it'll just be a good movie.

My reaction was that the new trailer was.....good. But it in no way evoked the kind of visceral reaction I had to the fanmade trailer yesterday. I do however await more with a certain level of excited anticipation.

I do think that the presence of the original cast changes the dynamic for me. I'd be far less enthused if they weren't involved. Also, I think my bitterness in regards to the mediocrity of the prequels is finally fading.

Also, I think my bitterness in regards to the mediocrity of the prequels is finally fading. Not mine. Until it's proven itself to be a good movie, it's just an expensive license to me. And even after the prequels, it's going to break records just because of the license. I'm not sure knowing you're going to make a fortune on a movie is the best way to encourage them to make the best movie possible. I'm reminded of Taylor Swift accidentally releasing 8 seconds worth of static on iTunes and having it shoot up to number one on their charts. But then again, we'll see.

I would like to see some hint of plot and character, but those shots of the Falcon, and the X-Wings are awesome!

Eh...not enough content in there to make a formal decision. Seeing the Falcon dogfight against a couple of TIE fighters was great. Best and funniest comment I've seen on the net someone used the below photo and put the classic Mel Brooks Spaceballs line beneath it....

Little detail I found interesting. I won't spoil who this character is, but she's using salvaged Stormtrooper lenses as her goggles.

The Millennium Falcon did me in. Such an iconic ship that hasn't been seen in 30 years. The special effects look great, the droid, the speeder, etc. Still a lot of concerns of course, but I am pleased with this teaser so far. Agreed. Movie's a whole year away though...but I won't get impatient, there are a lot of other films I want to see next year to pass the time.

In something not related to the new trailer, I picked up the first book in the Thrawn trilogy, Heir to the Empire. I'm pretty excited to read it on my flight back to Atlanta tomorrow.

Little detail I found interesting. I won't spoil who this character is, but she's using salvaged Stormtrooper lenses as her goggles. I didn't notice that. Nice catch. In something not related to the new trailer, I picked up the first book in the Thrawn trilogy, Heir to the Empire. I'm pretty excited to read it on my flight back to Atlanta tomorrow. The novel, I presume, rather than the comic adaptation? It's been a long while since I read the Thrawn trilogy (late '90s I'd say), but they are excellent books. Back when I read them I thought that they were the closest thing to a Star Wars: Episode VII, VIII and IX that we'd ever get. Seems I was wrong on that score. I remember liking Heir to the Empire a lot when I read it; there's some very faithful characterisation of the core cast members, Grand Admiral Thrawn is a great villain and his relationship with Captain Pellaeon is very nicely done. It's also an important novel for being the first time that Coruscant was mentioned as being the galactic capital planet (Coruscant later appeared in the SW prequels and the original trilogy special editions, looking almost exactly how Timothy Zahn described it in the book). Heir to the Empire also features the first appearance of Expanded Universe character and eternal fan favourite Mara Jade. The one thing that sticks in my mind as something I disliked about the book is a random mention of a cup of hot chocolate that Luke Skywalker is drinking at one point. Hot chocolate doesn't seem like a very Star Warsy drink to me -- blue milk, yes, hot chocolate, no. It's an odd little detail to recall from a book that I last read over 15 years ago, but it annoyed me and it sticks in my mind for that reason.

One thing I'm assuming (Since I avoid spoilers) is that the new film will be set 32 years after Jedi to line up with how much Ford, Hamill and Fisher have aged.
I'll say this now: I want ewok and wookie Jedi Knights. If this doesn't happen, I'll probably snap.

I'm a bit heated about a subject that I immediately noticed when I first saw this trailer on youtube, and maybe this topic needs it's own thread. But I can't believe how many racist comments have appeared regarding John Boyega as a Stormtrooper. Absolutely unbelievable. I find him to be a very interesting character, and he is one of the main stars of the trilogy. Why is color still an issue? To see all the racists calling him the N word on youtube and other sites is plain despicable. Then this morning I find CNN talking about this very same issue. We have a Black President, but once a Black Stormtrooper appears people have a problem? I like how Boyega tweeted, "Get used to it".
