Daredevil on Netflix is a really neat adaptation. It probably owes a lot to the direction Bendis and Maleev gave the book several years ago... which as far as I'm concerned is a very good thing.
I'm quite grateful to my son for having subscribed to the service!

I watched the first episode Sunday and loved it. The only reason I haven't watch more is because someone lent me season 1 of Game of Thrones and I'm now addicted to that show.

If it was me, I think going on they could use a character like Ned Leeds as the reporter in the Daredevil series. It would be cool to use a character like that in both the DD series and Spider-man movies.
Dakota North is a character that could be used in an interesting way in this DD series too.

Finally watched the first episode tonight. I like the casting and think it was generally well done, but I found holes in the plot (disappointing, considering how much attention to detail the script invites us to notice), wasn't impressed with the flashbacks/treatment of Matt's back story, and didn't find myself positively yearning to watch more. I'm sure I'll watch more episodes, but I don't feel the need to do so right away.

The origin of the Kingpin and how Foggy and Matt became friends episodes are pretty well done.

I've watched the first five episodes so far and I'm loving it. Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin is being very well written. I particularly love how they're setting up his somewhat awkward approach at having a normal social life...and the repercussions when things don't go his way. Ouch. (For anyone who's seen the car door scene...)

I'm taking my time with this show. It's fantastic. Just finished episode 9. I'm really hoping that Marvel decides to bring in the Punisher to the Daredevil universe, if not give him his own show to go along side DD, Iron Fist and Defenders. The tone of this show would be absolutely perfect for Frank Castle.
This show proves that gritty characters like DD and the Punisher are better served in a serial format where the artistry and storytelling can be maintained at a high level. The Avengers needs to be big and fun and awe inspiring, but the approach they're taking with the street-level heroes is spot on.*
*In a perfect world, DC would get it out of their heads that Batman is too "big" for a show like this. It's absurd. There is so much to the mythos of characters like this that movies simply can't even scratch the surface. I understand that something like Spider-Man would be problematic, simply because the CGI budget probably wouldn't be there, but Batman? No reason he couldn't work in a format like this.

Apparently the estate of Wally Wood is challenging Marvel and Netflix over the lack of credit to Wood in the DD series and a lawsuit may follow.... BC articleWood's contributions to the legacy of DD are every bit as important as Lee and Everett's, so he should be credited along with them. THe DD we know today is more Wood's vision than that of the creators who are credited. -M

Just finished the series today, and all in all, I really enjoyed it. I found their depiction of Kingpin to be a departure from how he's traditionally presented in the comics, particularly with respect to his social awkwardness and mommy/daddy issues, but I thought it was an original spin on the character, and definitely provides for some great moments for Vincent D'onofrio. I wasn't the biggest fan of the final costume though. In these more "realistic" takes on superheroes, I get that spandex doesn't work and that there needs to be something that looks more utilitarian. I guess I'm just getting a bit tired of the armored, militaristic look. On the other hand, I was glad to see that the full fledged billy clubs finally made their appearance. I hope in the second season we get to see them used more -- can't have Daredevil without the billy club grappling hook.

Wood should be credited. I thought that the first time I saw the Lee/Everett credits. I wonder if it has anything to do with Wood's less than complimentary opinions of Stan Lee after working at Marvel?
I thought the series was great. Oddly, the one weak point for me was the final Kingpin and Daredevil showdown. I felt that it was a bit over the top and didn't really fit with the tone of the show up until that point. As far as the costume goes, it looks great on paper (I saw a design sheet Quesada posted on tumblr) but like most live-action superhero costumes the final product is a mixed bag. The mask seemed like it didn't fit properly and it looked a bit odd. Movie and TV productions still haven't figured out how to make a superhero mask look as cool, or fit as snugly, as the ones in the comics when it doesn't cover the whole face. (Batman, Daredevil, Cap, etc.)

(Batman, Daredevil, Cap, etc.) I saw a concept design which looks pretty close to the final product, but for some reason it looks a lot more appealing to me on paper than what actually got made. screenrant.com/daredevil-marvel-costume-explained-netflix/I always thought of Daredevil as a guy who relied on speed, agility, acrobatics, and his enhanced senses to gain the edge in a fight, so to me it makes more sense that he would wear something light and flexible. Not necessarily spandex -- something a little thicker and robust than that, but not quite the bulkier look that ended up on the show. The concept design still has the black panels, rivets, and armored look of the TV costume, but it's more form-fitting.

The problem with the headpieces seems to be that they have to be fitted for the shape of the actors head, which is rarely as perfectly symmetrical as comic artists get to draw their characters heads in the comics. It's clear that the body used for the design sheet is idealized to get the body of comic Daredevil, not movie/TV Daredevil. I agree with you that the armored look, while cool on one hand, is getting a bit tiresome. I think the bulkiness of these suits is preventing them from looking ideal. I'm of the belief that a more form-fitting "spandex" costume, perhaps enhanced through CGI, would allow them to present superheroes that truly look like live-action counterparts to the comics versions. (They have yet to come close to doing capes as dramatically as the comics can do them, for instance.)

Let me just throw my two cents into the ring. I will start with saying to anyone who has NOT seen it, it is a must watch. The best thing Marvel has put out in the TV/movie world IMO. And now, if you have not watched, avert your eyes while I give my review ***SPOILERS AHEAD***
First off, every single person cast in this show is excellent. Cox as DD, brilliant. Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin....sheer brilliance. And Eldon Henson as Foggy works perfectly! I would not change a thing. The dialogue in every episode is strong and the cinematography is fantastic.
In one of the early episodes (believe it is episode 2 or 3 but don't quote me) there is a fight scene in a hallway towards the end where DD is rescuing a boy. It is shot in one single take and is simply amazing. That episode alone is worth the getting Netflix (and hey, first month is free so watch and cancel and it costs ya nothing!).
The story weaves itself together nicely, with the rise of Kingpin and Matt, Foggy, Karen and Ben trying to expose him. There are a few shocking moments (I for one was surprised when Karen shot Wesley and was also a bit surprised that Kingpin killed Ben). Overall, the fight scenes are fantastic but it is really just a solid script, solid acting and just a great representation of Daredevil. I like how they show Daredevil struggling with hi surge to actually kill Kingpin, as well as wanting to act outside the law. I also like how Karen, who has killed, will likely have some demons to cope with moving forward.
Two things that I would have changed. Dunno if I would have had Matt reveal himself to Foggy this soon. I mean, he doesn't do it intentionally but Foggy knows now and I am hoping this works out long term. Also, the red costume (which looked weird in some of the original photos released) was better but not amazing. I am hoping they invest some money to making it a bit better. Still cool but not as sleek as the Affleck costume. The only thing that movie got right was the look of that suit...maybe not the tightness but...yeah.
Finally, lots of little Easter eggs in the episodes. References to the comics, the Avengers movie. Gladiator's alter ego Melvin Potter makes an appearance. I would really like to see that costume in the future. Unknown if Bullseye actually appears or not...some unknown assassin shoots some cops and while it appears to be a bad cop in Swat gear, there is an a card that appears to be in the bag he puts his rifle in. Again, unknown if this is Bullseye but he will surely appear at some point. Ditto for Elektra who is vaguely references as a girl Matt once dated. Madame Gao is also fantastic. She makes reference to going back to a homeland that is "considerably further away" than China. This seems to tie in with Iron Fist and K'un L'un.
Overall, I loved it. Zero real complaints. Highly highly recommend. If they do as good a job with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist as they did with this, then Netflix can handle every Marvel TV show as far as I am concerned.
