I love Rick Jones, but mostly because Peter David's use of him has colored all his earlier apprearances for me. He's a total jackass, but he's a brave, witty, and somewhat intelligent jackass who lets his impulsiveness get the best of him. Everyone has a friend like that. He's the guy when you mention his name, everybody laughs, then proceeds to tell funny stories about his biggest, dumbest eff-ups.
My absolute favorite Rick Jones moment is at the end of Avengers Forever where he sees that he suddenly has wrist bands on and just casually bangs them together because that's what you do when you're Rick Jones and wrist bands magically appear on your arms. It's such a quintessential jackass Rick Jones moment. No real thought, no consultation with anyone... just go for it. What could go wrong?
Shame they ruined him by turning him into a quasi-Abomination.

Bat-mite, Wonder-tot and Gaggy from Batman 186. Annoying to the point of being stupid...I'd only own 'their' silver age books to complete a run, not for any appreciation of the character. Bat-Mite is awesome!
Wonder Tot less so.
Gaggy is pretty bad. Not really a supporting character though.

At the risk of incurring wrath I'd include Comet the super-horse, Streaky the Supercat and Rob Liefeld Beppo the Supermonkey, that were popular in DC's comics of the 1960s. I don't even understand why you read comic books.
(And you're strikethrough joke is mean MEAN MEAN. Beppo definitely doesn't deserve that. You're a mean person, Jez.

Yeah...Not sure how a one-shot or seldom used villain sidekick counts as a supporting character.

Disliking some of the worst ideas in history is no indictment. I do have a grudging fondness for Krypto, but that has more to do with the impossibility of me not liking a flying dog in a cape; I'm sure if DC came up with Clammy the Super Clam, someone out there would claim a deep fondness for it. (Though how they'd explain the cape staying on is beyond me...) I'll say again...Silver Age Marvel happened for a reason!

Lois Lane. I don't know that I've ever seen an incarnation of the character I even remotely liked. Maybe the Dini/Timm version. Maybe. That I enjoy her Silver Age solo title is due almost entirely to Kurt Schaffenberger and not to its conniving lead. Cei-U! And her sister Lucy is worse! I would agree, except for on the tv show Smallville, where I found the charm of the actress made the character fun to watch for me. Same with Supergirl on the same show. Smallville really wasn't a very good series, but I kept watching for quite some time because of those two.

And I thought I would incure your wrath for putting silver age Steve Trevor, world's most emasculated man,on the list Steve Trevor is kind of hysterical. I love the Golden Age Wonder Woman comics because Wonder Woman is always so concerned about how weak Steve Trevor is in comparison, but he also has his ego, so Wonder Woman always lets him land a couple of punches but she's careful to make sure he doesn't get in so deep that she can't save his ass.
Silver Age Steve Trevor is frikkin' ridonkulous. Be as mean as you want. He's the one who should have been fridged in Identity Crisis, not Sue Dibny or Jean Loring.

I'll give you that moment in Avengers Forever, because, yes, it did totally fit the character. He acted without thinking or without getting anyone else's counsel or input, just doing what he felt like doing. I've never read the work from Peter David, so maybe, like you, that would help temper my intense dislike for Mr. Jones. Most everything I've ever read with him in it (Hulk, Avengers, Captain America, Captain Marvel) has him come across not as brave but reckless, not as witty but snarky, and not intelligent but arrogant; he's just pretty much a douche. I wouldn't be friends with him; I'd just want to punch him in the face and leave him bleeding on the sidewalk. He's a lot like Jack in the Fables series, and I really dislike him as well.

Yes,Peter David wrote the Rick Jones character as well as can be expected. But even still, every time Rick Jones picked up a guitar and warbled a song I wanted to kick him in the nuts

I'm surprised by the Rick Jones reactions. He was a loyal sidekick to the Hulk in the early days and was never a boring character. I enjoyed him in the Kree/Skrull war and he was great in the Captain Marvel (v.1) series.

What next? A Punisher mini-series with his sidekick, a chihuahua? (Complete with thought-balloons)... Well, it might get some of you to buy it.... If they replace The Punisher with Madame, you've got a deal. With Marilyn McCoo as the Punisher's armory van driver...I'm in!
