Yes, in hindsight I would recommend the three Giffen runs. I must however admit that I don't care for the non-Giffen LSH books written by Levitz, even if logically the only thing that should change is the art... It's as if Giffen's input on the stories was what made them click for me. I'm not a fan of the Legion, but I do like the Giffen issues (as I pretty much like anything giffen did through the 80s). I think he added a lot to building the world the legion inhabited, in terms of backgrounds and costumes.

I enjoyed the Giffen run of the early 80's & also really liked the baxter series from 1984, read that way beyond Giffen leaving and the book remained good for quite some time, really liked the art of Steve Lightle & Greg LaRocque. Nothing later ever interested me, not even when Giffen returned. At this point not even sure if DC should try to revive it.

DC needs to make a decision as to what they want their DC future to be and build from that. Throughout the Bronze age it was stated that Kamandi's world was a definitive point of catastrophe and then the world of Hercules was the rebuilding stage and then the Legion was the revived Earth and that was a future open to whatever they wanted to do.
Now since the new '52 and on they haven't had a strong future vision, wanting to link the Legion within the context of the current (our time) or trying to place current hero's into the future making a need for the Legion non-existent. Also not having a strong reasoning for there being a Legion has been an issue. Are they rebellious teens? Are they space cops? Are they super heroes? How to sell the Legion concept is the issue DC believes, which isn't really the problem.
The characters and powers and the world of the future were what build the huge following of devotee's and DC has either forgotten or ignoring the diversity and abundance and wealth of characters to be found in the Legion. Also lost has been the pure fun and excitement of exploring a future when DC wants to tie it all into our current timeline and issues.
What makes the future so wondrous is the potential for it being something different from today. Don't know about you allbu i don't want to read about dark future's when the world of today is so bleak. I want the splendor and excitement of a fun filled future to take me away from today. Please? I want the joyful, positive and uplifting Legion where Lads and Lasses would frolic in their sexy and scantily clad future designs. Thank you!

I think that's a great point. DC just isn't happy enough these days for the Legion to make sense... especially since they've now got competing visions (the original 'Beyond', the new Brother Eye Beyond, and Giffens' JLA 3000).
I think they'd have to start from scratch and be careful not to use the old continuity stuff at first.. build a new audience, them maybe do some sort of something to tie it back to history.

The Legion used to be so simple, future heroes, DC has gotten so convoluted & I am sick of the newfound explanations used to fit into the new, newer, newest continuity...MAKE IT STOP! I never read New52 LOSH, did it attempt to make much sense or was it basically a circus side-show?

It seems like DC has plans with LSH references popping up in the Rebirth titles. I enjoyed the Legion until the 5 years later stories and then the clones. The first Crisis threw a wrench into the Legion by removing Superboy and Supergirl, but then there was the pocket universe...then Mon-El as Valor, etc. I would read a back to basics approach, inspired by Superboy--not sure how that would work with all the changes (since the pre 52 Superman is back, I am guessing he still had adventures with the traditional LSH). I would want bright, optimistic stories with a bit of space soap opera thrown in. The relationships between the legionnaires always interested me.

Can't LOSH just remain in a bubble & ignore everything stupidly new that happens in the DC Universe?? Why does every single DC change have to affect the LOSH universe exactly?

Sorry, that will never happen.
I'm torn between the All-Star Squadron / Justice Society and the LSH as my favorite super group.
I'd kill to have Brandon Graham do it, but he won't sell out.
Grant Morrison too.
Maybe Tom King ?
BTW, Valiant has their titles as well as their future-verse in Rai and the 4001 A.D. mini-series. It's awesome

With Rebirth there seems to be an opening for them to bring in any version of the Legion. Id go back to the end of the Baxter series in the 80s and continue those characters. JUST please avoid retelling stories for the 4th time, Ive found this infuriating trying to read the Legion books from the 90s or to some extent the DnA stuff.
Normally I would love Giffen to be involved but not too big a fan of how hes plotting books these days, and hed never do art only. Happy as long as they dont hire Charles Soule, the most over-rated writer of the last decade.

I'm only buying Doom Patrol right now, but I'll definitely pony up for LSH, Shazam, JSA or Freedom Fighters.
The Bat books don't seem as strong now, though Wonder Woman is getting mixed reviews, the GL and Super titles all look good. Waiting for sales on them to try.

I once joked over in the DC forums on CBR that Legion should be revamped to the crazy extreme with ALL the members being female. 31st century girl power taken to the nth degree, complete with friendships, feuds, cliques, rivalries, romances, the whole nine yards. I think something like that would be fun.

Reunite the Legion Of Super-Pets, have them use the time bubble to gather together ever DC animal into a Pet Army and watch the fur fly

Throughout the Bronze age it was stated that Kamandi's world was a definitive point of catastrophe and then the world of Hercules was the rebuilding stage and then the Legion was the revived Earth and that was a future open to whatever they wanted to do. Hang on, that can't be right; there was a two issue crossover between Kamandi and the short lived Karate Kid title which confirmed that the Legion and the last boy on Earth lived in two different divergent versions of the thirtieth century, set at exactly the same time! It was also later established (in DC Comics Presents #57) that the world of both Hercules and the Atomic Knights was just a virtual reality scenario being dreamed into existence by Gardner Grayle.

The first Crisis threw a wrench into the Legion by removing Superboy and Supergirl Actually, that happened quite a while after the Crisis ended. At first, the Legion still remembered Supergirl's sacrifice, and Brainiac 5 believed for some time that Sensor Girl was really Supergirl resurrected.
