Except that Batman Beyond design isn't official, it's fan art and specifically fan art based on what Terry would look like in a live action movie. I know that, I said that when I posted it. My point is the same.

As far as armor or a more "tactical" look goes, I don't mind it if it makes sense for the character and doesn't alter the traditional look too much. Street-level vigilante types that tend to engage in close quarter combat and lack powers? Yeah, armor makes a lot of sense. Armor on Superman? Not so much. Even when it makes sense though, it's been done often enough now that I think it's been overdone. Armor on Daredevil makes sense, but at this point I wish they'd tried something else to give him an update. I have all kinds of lukewarm feelings on the Batman V Superman film, but one thing I think they are doing right is not putting Batman in yet another armored costume.

I was never fond of either of these two looks for Thor.... and then there was this abominable turn for the Wasp... but the whole bug thing was just beyond reason. However it was just one of many costume redesigns for Marvel characters inthe 90s that just didn't work well. -M The artwork is so distractingly horrible in those images that I can't even tell how bad the costume designs are, though I suspect they're very bad indeed.

1994-1997 was the absolutely pits for comics at Marvel. Man was that stuff bad.

I was never fond of either of these two looks for Thor.... When I see something like that first costume, the very first thing my mind does is imagine myself wearing it, and as soon as I do that, the whole design fails. If the strap is tight enough to stay up, it's too tight for me to bend my leg...or if I do, my superheroic thigh will snap or at the very least loosen the strap. I would especially think that an artist would "feel" himself in the image he was drawing, just to get a sense of the physicality of the picture--I certainly do, and I always assumed that that was one of the appeals of superhero adventure comics, something that all readers did. It's like when I see guys wearing oversized pants that they have to hold up with one hand at all times--I can't see it without feeling uncomfortable myself, imagining how annoying it would be to try to maneuver myself around in that kind of getup.

My point is the same. Except it doesn't really stand when it comes to live action films, which is a completely different medium than comics. A muscle bound guy in what looks like spandex works in comics(in a large part because that's the way we expect them to look rather than any real aesthetic reasons) but that smooth non-textured look comes off as more than a little boring and slightly cheesy so there is a need to alter these classic looks so they still invoke that sense of amazement while in action.

Christopher Reeve is the only person to pull off the "spandex" suit. It might have something to do with him being the most perfectly cast actor in the history of the universe.

John Byrne's redesign of the Fantastic Four's uniforms was great. True, but you must take the bad with the good:

Ultimate Thor goes capeless and I think it's a pretty good look: Thor actually takes to redesigns pretty well. Two of my favorites are Esad Ribic's Young Thor: And Chris Samnee's Thor, which is a combination of the Kirby and Coipel designs and might be the best of all: That Sammee Thor is reminiscent of the Viking Prince:

I agree that Thor's mail-armour was a pretty good idea and suits the character, though I still like the traditional Marvel costume too.
Not a fan of Byrne's FF redesign, myself, but I think Djurdjevic's white uniforms look quite nice. Don't like Spider-Man in the FF, though - or in the Avengers, for that matter.
Daredevil's all-red costume is one of my favourites, but I can't tell how I might have felt about the old yellow & red look, since it was before my time. The one thing I'd like to see them try is giving DD a full face-mask, just because I think that looks better in general than the usual half-mask that leaves the lower face exposed. Not sure if it would work, but I'd like to see someone try it, just to see how it would look.
One redesign I've always disliked is Wonder Man's safari jacket. I think it looks totally out of place in a superhero comics, where all the other characters are wearing the traditionally colourful skin-tight costumes. Who came up with that idea, I wonder?
And another one that always drives me crazy when they depart in any way from the Black Panther's plain all-black uniform, whether by adding jewellery or anything else. I suppose I can just about put up with the ceremonial cape, as long as he gets rid of it when in action, but really, any extra accoutrements at all spoil the effect of what is one of the very best visual designs in all superhero comics, for me.

Yeah, that was just plain ugly. Has Wonder Man ever had a decent costume? Or name? Or personality?

But even then it's just for a film from that period, I don't think if he were magically in his prime today and cast in the role with the same costume it would be the same. I'd look past it and enjoy the film because he's a fantastic superman but it wouldn't have the same "Wow!" factor.

The Fantastic Four costume the one the bert shown to us earlier on this thread is the ugliest FF Costume to date. I was literally blew my top when I saw these costumes.
