An update on the above request, and a new question from Roy:
I want to thank all of those on these lists that have responded with help, or offers of help, re ALTER EGO #176, the Street & Smith Comics issue. I've got more than enough stuff in general now, and those of you who helped will of course receive your copy and credit... not that that's adequate recompense for your trouble, as I'm well aware... but there are still a few things eluding me I thought I'd ask about one more time.
Along with a photo of the ever-elusive S&S editor William de Grouchy, I could use splashes or good action pages of the following:
Transo
Phantom Flyer
Mr. Twilight
Mr. 13
Minute Man
Thanks for any help you can give,
Roy
Got a weird question. Someone wrote ALTER EGO a fine letter, a year and more back, about the installment of Peter Normanton's FROM THE TOMB that dealt with artist Rudy Palais... and how he had noticed that Palais seemed to have smoothed his style out in later years to keep getting work, and how the letter-writer was trying to bring the Grand Comics Database up to date concerning Rudy's work. I have the letter for the "re:" section of AE #176...but alas, the name of the letter-writer seems to have become detached somehow, and I'd like to credit him. Can the letter-writer jog my memory as to who he is, if he sees this?
Thanks,
Roy

Not a request this time! Here's a preview of the next few issues of Alter Ego:

Plus Golden Age artist MARCIA SNYDER—Marvel’s early variant covers—MARVELMANIA club & fanzine—FCA, MTG on CRACKED MAZAGINE, et al.[And yes, “MAZAGINE” was how CRACKED spelled it on covers.]
#178:Golden Age great EMIL GERSHWIN, artist of STARMAN, SPY SMASHER, and ACG horror –in a super-length special Comic Crypt by MICHAEL T. GILBERT—plus a Gershwin showcase in PETER NORMANTON’s From The Tomb—even a few tidbits about relatives GEORGE & IRA GERSHWIN to top it off! Also FCA, and other surprise features!
#179:Celebrating the 61st Anniversary of FANTASTIC FOUR #1—’cause we kinda blew right past its 60th—plus a sagacious salute to STAN LEE’s 100th birthday, with never-before-seen highlights—and a tribute to FF #1&2 inker GEORGE KLEIN! Bonus: Spotlight on SUB-MARINER in the Bowery in FF #4—plus sensational secrets behind FF #1 & #3! Also: FCA, MTG, and more!
#180:THE YOUNG ALL-STARS—the late-1980s successor to ALL-STAR SQUADRON! Interviews with first artist BRIAN MURRAY and last artist LOU MANNA—surprising insights by writer/co-creator ROY THOMAS—plus a panorama of never-seen YOUNG ALL-STARS artwork! All-new cover by BRIAN MURRAY! Plus FCA, MTG, & beyond!

The latest:
Hi Folks--
At the last minute, I've learned that several of the art scans I have in place for ALTER EGO #177, a mostly Marvel issue, are not quite as hi-res as would be ideal, and I was wondering if anyone out there had hi-res scans (at least 300 dpi) of any of the following, which will earn a free copy of the issue if used. If you're one of those who sent me a scan before, then probably I need a better one than that if possible... to keep our publisher happy. Me, I always appreciate your help, even if the scans turn out not to be as hi-res as we'd like. We do what we can, right?
ASTONISHING #35, Marvel (splash for Don Perlin story "The Dinner Guest")
STRANGE SUSPENSE STORIES, Charlton (p. 6 of Perlin story "Focus: Danger")
THE WITCHING HOUR #44, DC (splash of story "Kill the Demon Tiger!")
Cover of 1970s CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT Action Book
Cover of MARVELMANIA CATALOG #2 (b&w Avengers illo by S. Buscema)
DETECTIVE COMICS #352, splash of Elongated Man story, DC
ALL-FLASH #52, "The City of Shifting Sands," p. 10C, DC
STRANGE ADVENTURES #9 "Captain Comet" splash page - DC
Also, there was a 2020 Don Perlin "Werewolf by Night" commission online, and a re-do by him of his STRANGE TERRORS cover from the 1950s, if anyone has a better scan than what I found online.
There was also a nice montage, I think from a Mark Evanier site, of the goodies sold initially by Marvelmania, including the "Scream along with Marvel" record left over from the MMMS, a Captain America/Kirby poster, etc., if someone happens to have a better copy of that... don't know the original source, alas.
Thanks for listening,
Roy

Here's an obscure one:
Hi Folks--
Looking for good scans (or sale or loan of a poor to fair-to-middling copy) of EC's INTERNATIONAL CRIME PATROL #6 (1948), actually the only issue with that particular title. Please let me know if you can provide... it can be made worth your time.
Thanks,
Roy

This is an obvious and very welcome move:
ALTER EGO #181, out next spring, will be a special tribute to my late colleague and occasional sparring-partner Neal Adams, and I'd like to do it up right. Already have on hand a couple of short interviews with Neal, which I'm very happy about... but would be glad to learn of other, preferably already-existing articles or the like which would add to the celebration. That includes rare items perhaps published years ago in fanzines which haven't been recently reprinted and might be of interest to AE's readers. There'll also be an Adams issue of BACK ISSUE in conjunction the AE coverage... so that's like a double-size TwoMorrows magazine!
Best wishes, and thanks for listening,
Roy

New request:
Wondering if anyone has a good scan of a "Flying Fox" panel from that aviator feature that ran in MORE FUN COMICS #44-51 (1939). Would love to have it for ALTER EGO #180, a Young All-Stars special.
Also good use a good scan showing young Bruce Wayne as the Flying Fox in the Superboy story in ADVENTURE COMICS #275 (Aug. 1960).
Thanks for listening,
Roy

Here's one request that I think many people here might be able to help with:
I find myself in a weird predicament. I'm prepping ALTER EGO #170, devoted to the YOUNG ALL-STARS series of 1987-89 and featuring interviews with artists Brian Murray, Howard Simpson, and Lou Manna, as well as a piece by myself. However, somehow, in "straightening" my office a few months back, somehow I seem to have filed my spare copies of my YOUNG ALL-STARS and ARAK comics in some place where I cannot currently locate them. I have a complete set of YAS' 31 issues and Annual in bound volumes, but can't generally reproduce well from these... and I located only a relative handful of separate copies I can scan. I very much need to have someone who can stand by, once I've figured out which art I want to repro from YAS in AE #190, to scan and send me (or AE's layout man) good hi-res copies of pages from the following issues of which I don't have loose copies:
YAS #1-3, 5, 6, 9, 11, 12, and 28-31
If you have all these issues in your collection and can scan certain pages for me in the next couple of weeks as I complete the editing of the various interviews, please let me know, preferably by contacting me at my e-address roydann@ntinet.com
Thanks for listening!

Another request for something more recent than the usual Alter Ego era:
Just wondered if anyone has any of the interior work by Brian Murray for Continuity's MS. MYSTIC #3 (Jan. '87).
Thanks for listening,

Update on the Young All-Stars request:
Sorry, but I discovered that I do have access to hi-res scans of #1-3, so just need access to the following:
#5, 6, 29, 30, & Annual #1.
Please contact me at above e-address if you can help.
Thanks,
Roy

A couple of new ones:
Could really use a good scan of a nice page from the Howard Simpson-drawn story in GREEN LANTERN #169.
and
Wondering if anyone can send a hi-res scan of the "Dr. Occult" splash page from SECRET ORIGINS #17.
Thanks for listening,
Roy

This time Roy's looking for a photo that may not exist:
I don't think any photo was ever taken, or even a drawing made, of Neal Adams and me together... but I thought I'd check and see if anyone out there has a photo I never saw or at least don't recall. This is for ALTER EGO #181, which is nearly totally devoted to Neal's work...but of course I'm writing about my own relationship with him and his art, too.

Another Adams request, but this one is likely to be in someone's collection:
Wondered if anyone could help me with the following splash pages of Neal Adams war stories from these two comics:
OUR ARMY AT WAR #182
STAR SPANGLED WAR STORIES #134
Thanks for listening,
Roy

A couple of new requests for some relatively obscure Neal Adams work. I know I have a copy of Phase but it's in storage. Anybody want a free copy of Alter Ego?
Our Army at War #183 - Neal Adams story
Wondered if anyone has a good scan of the above. It would be appreciated... with a copy of ALTER EGO #181 for the first person to send me a copy hi-res enough to use.
Hoping that someone out there has good scans that can be sent to me of the Neal Adams story "View from Without" from PHASE #1 (and only), 1971. I know I reprinted it in UNKNOWN WORLDS OF SCIENCE FICTION #1, but I'd like to reproduce a few images from the earlier comic, which had better printing.
Thanks for listening,'

Roy's still looking for Adams war stories:
STAR SPANGLED WAR STORIES #134
Wondering if someone has a hi-res scan of the splash page of the Neal Adams-drawn story "The Killing Ground" from the above issue. If so, please send it to me off-list. The first person to send me a scan I can use will, of course, receive a gratis copy of ALTER EGO #181. Of course, maybe it's not quite "gratis," because you'll have paid for it by sending the scan, right?
Thanks for listening,
Roy
