Jay Garrick's togs are definitely a classic. He'd make my top 5 for sure, with the modernized Mercury look. However, foxley brings up a good question about the helmet, not to mention, what keeps it from falling off? Who cares, though, it looks cool! I don't know about Black Canary. She looks a bit like a cabaret singer to me. Still, the costume lasted a pretty long time without major changes, until the mid to late 80's, I think.

Here's a great web page showing all the Black Canary's Costumes throughout the ages. You'll be surprised! See Link Below. BLACK CANARY COSTUMES

I don't know about Black Canary. She looks a bit like a cabaret singer to me. That's what she's supposed to look like; during the big band era, when Black Canary was introduced, "canary" was slang for a female singer. In her first appearance, she sings her first bit of dialogue, and is described by Johnny Thunder as having a "voice like music." The lounge singer connection is kinda lost on us now, but readers at the time would have gotten the allusions right away.

Some of the golden age costumes that stand out for me:
Flash: clean, simple, and the helmet is cool Black Canary: sexy in a very understated way, classic, and perfect for her nighttime adventures. I like the mask she wore Starman: classic superhero, the cape, the fin on the helmet. The colors are garrish, but who cares! Miss America: patriotic and pretty Wonder Woman: patriotic, doesn't inhibit her movement, colorful, fun. I don't like the current WW costume at all. Stick with the eagle bustier and star spangled shorts. Superman: again, a classic. The red cape and "S" shield are perfect Dr. Fate: the colors and the helmet. Mysterious Batman: from his earliest appearances, very dark, very scary looking. Wildcat: clean and lean, the face mask is a bit much, but a cool look Captain Marvel: classy, regal, and a pleasing color scheme, bright, friendly, optimistic Firebrand: any guy that can pull off a pink see through shirt deserves to be mentioned. His mask was really cool. Phantom Lady: Sexy! Hawkman: imposing, anyone who fights crime bare chested means business. This costume indicates to me that he is very sure of himself and not afraid of getting hurt. I like the golden helmet from the 70s more than the cowl. Black Condor: a very unique and fashion forward look.

Number FiveAlter Ego: Kathy Kane Gorgeous Costume/Outfit of Red and Yellow - One thing that stands out it is the use of Black in the Yellow Part of the Costume making it a shadow effect that's attracts me the most. Of all the costumes that the DC Comics Heroines wore in this time period - this one stands out one of the most colorful and dynamic costumes that nothing that Batman, Robin, and Batgirl can claimed. Unique Collar, Fantastic Design, Futuristic Belt that so cool looking, and the Gloves and the Handbag completes the Costume just beautifully! Quite Deserving to be ranked Number Five in my Countdown!

I do love Batwoman's red & yellow color combination, though I wonder if it's too much yellow for a crimfighter. IT certainly has great visual appeal, though, and is certainly not run of the mill.

I like the original Batwoman's costume too. Bright and fun, the colors mirror the more innocent and fun era of comics as opposed to everything having to be dark and gritty today. I always thought Batwoman was a classier heroine with her little gloves and handbag full of gimmicks. And she knew how to ride a motorcycle as well as defying Batman's orders to cease crimefighting as it was too dangerous for a girl (according to him). Her niece was a very sharp and smart looking Bat-Girl too.

Number FourAlter Ego: Diana Prince DC Comics Premier Super Heroine of all Time - And, one of my favorites as well and one of very few heroines that wore a skirt. I know there are others - but she is the one that's made it a mainstream in the Comic Book World of Yesterdays. Very Star-Spangled and one of the classiest design ever - I dig her boots and I love the white trim too! I loved her Eagle Insignia and that's made her costume cool! Just Gorgeous, and I find her in the rightful spot for Number Four in my Countdown ... you just can't beat this combination of Red, White, Blue, and a Touch of Gold in her Insignia, Tiera, and her Golden Lasso of Truth!
