This is the (Official) 1st Picture of Superman in the offices of National Comics that was painted by H.J. Wray back in 1940 with Metropolis in the background. My all-time favorite picture of Superman! That's H.J. Ward.

. . .from Hollywoodland, where Ben Affleck plays real life George Reeves in a Black Dalhia like story, and a very good one might I add, it earned him the best actor prize at the Venice Mostra Film Festival! Enjoyed the picture, but the prosthetic nose was super-distracting and didn't (IMHO) make him look any more like Reeves. Still, though I prefer him behind the camera, Affleck turned in a fine performance.

And it's a great image, but so squinty! You'd think Superman would have those peepers wide open to soak up that sweet, sweet sunlight.

Always loved Dr. Fate. Every time I see him I'm brought back to the 80's and how I could never find his Super Powers figure. I almost always love it when medieval designs are worked into super hero/villain costumes.

Scans of Doctor FateHe made his first appearance in More Fun Comics in Issue 67. His origin story was published inside that issue. It's got reprinted again in Justice Society of America later on. Actually, to be correct, Dr. Fate first appeared in More Fun Comics #55 ("The Menace of Wotan") May 1940. His origin wasn't told until a year later in #67. That story has been reprinted several times (Justice League of America #95, DC Special Blue Ribbon Digest #9, Weird Secret Origins #1, Golden Age Doctor Fate Archives Vol. 1 HC, and DC Universe:Secret Origins).

Who is it? The Whip? The Jester? Little Boy Blue? Red Bee? The suspense is killing me!

That's how I remember one of the origin stories that was re-printed many times and knew from Issue 67; but couldn't find it in the internet. Number 1 will be posted sometimes before 6pm Pacific Standard Time.

I prefer Wonder Woman's original costume, with the skirt, over the long shorts. I like Superman's costum and all, and I know it's an original, but I still prefer Captain Marvel's costume.

Number OneThe most colorful Superhero of the Golden Age; first and foremost - I just dig the purple and green cape, red shirt and green pants, with the right touch of yellow in his boots and emblem that's makes it truly special. To me, it's the most striking costume that I've ever seen in my lifetime and I just can't get enough of this costume and when you see it in the comic books throughout the 40's and beyond it's BURNS an image in your mind that remains in you forever. The cape is incredible, the main color scheme of Green and Red is just perfect! I was in awe when I picked up my older brother's old copy of the Justice Society of America Comic Book and I was stunned by it. His power ring, powered by Starheart was amazing and he can do anything with it except on wood. Stunning and Majestic! Made his debut in All American Number 16 ... Some of my favorite pictures in the next three posts!
