#48 RobotmanAlter Ego: Robert Crane I'm not talking about Cliff Steele - the Robotman from Doom Patrol at all; I'm talking about the Robert Crane version - the Steel/Silver version because that version is more closely in mind of what Robotman should looked like. The version above you in picture form is more attune to my liking because I've thought that the Doom Patrol version - the Cliff Steele confuses me of another popular character - Automan by DC Comics. The problem is that in this age of Comic Books people tends to get very frustrated of the numbers of Robots that appeared back then. I always prefer the silver one and I have to keep in mind that the Robert Crane's version is the best one out there. Many people that I know of prefer the Cliff Steele's version of the DOOM Patrol more to their liking but the Crane is better suited for me because he's more human than you've think. Crane's version wins hands down.

#47 RayAlter Ego: Lanford "Happy" Terrill, Member of the Freedom Fighters and one of the most unique heroes around - one thing that I always liked about him is his unique costume of Gold that is designed with a purpose and has great aerodynamics "feel" that's caught my attention while reading my older brother's Freedom Fighters Comic Books in the early 60's. I loved his powers based and most importantly he's quite well-rounded for a crimefighter back in the late 50's and early 60's. Unique helmet design and shoulders - quite similar to Starman's (Helmet/Cap) and very futuristic looking as well. I think the Gold/Yellow works perfectly and there is no other color that's would work here. I also liked the sleeknes of this costume brings and most importantly one of my favorites in the Golden Age of Comics. He's rightfully placed at #48. Note: I'll not be posting tomorrow and resume posting on Saturday with Number 47.

I really like the original Robotman, the shiny metallic looks seems to work for me.
The Ray has a fin, so I love his outfit. It's also why I like the second Atom costume more than the original. He even had a third during the Parobeck drawn 1991 JSA series.

Scans of RayPerfect Example of the Shoulder (pointed triangles) here ... this is one of the main reasons why I like his costume so much! Two good examples of that here. This attracts my attention! Excellent Picture of the Ray that I found accidentdly late last night ... I wished I used this one for my thread. Another good example ... Great Costume! Number 47 on Saturday!

That Steranko Ray is breathtaking. Safe bet that JS was using the extraordinary Lou Fine (aka E. Lectron) as a frame of reference?
*I do hope MechaGodzilla doesn't mind us "augmenting" his thread with our scans. He has me hooked, and I'll sit quietly with hands folded in my lap if he would prefer.

#46 ZataraFather of Zatanna, Alter Ego: Giovanni "John" Zatara One of the best overall costume of it's time and quite a period piece during the late 30's and early 40's. I conside his outfit a Gentlemen's Gentlemen of Dashing Evening Wear and done just right for it's time. I loved the red bow tie, the golden vest, and the striped slacks along with his trademark top hat that he wears. You just can't go wrong with this outfit at all. He is the Father of Zatanna and one of my favorite Golden Age Character as a Master Magician of his own rights.

Scans of ZataraOne of the first stories that I read of Zatara is found in Action Comics #20 of which my dear friend has a copy of and he let me read it once in a great while. Story originated in January 1940. Here's the complete story. With text from the web-site alone. I remember 1939... World War 2, strange deadly mists drifing in from the ocean... good times, good times. A butterfly winged bikini girl flies in the window and starts talking about the moon, and Zatara wants to know why she's telling him this? Just go with it, Zatara. This isn't going to get logical any time soon. As we see here Zatara's magical power is, whatever he says backwards, happens. Kind of like what the bible thumpers think happens when you play Black Sabbath LPs. So cartoony moon men live under the sea and plot Earth's conquest with deadly gases and humorous skirts. I've often suspected as much. You can tell the dictator because he wears a little sign that says "The Dictator." That's kind of cute. Zatara has no mercy for little moon men! Zatara is kind of a hard-ass for a dude in a top hat who talks backwards! Yes. Yes he would. Very much so. I would say exchanging death for firecrackers is always a good trade. Or, as the moon men say, "Gibble OOK!" From MeThis is the 1st Story that I've read of Zatara and you can tell it's somewhat goofy back then - but I loved it anyway! ... #45 is next later on this weekend, don't know when!

The Ray had a slightly different costume in the 1970s Freedom Fighters series. This early 80s DCCP issue was, I believe, its last appearance, though I'm afraid this cover doesn't do it justice...

Scans of the AtomThis is the other costume that I wasn't exposed to and I was shocked to learned this back in the mid-1980's that made me upset to the Comic Book Stores Owners that did not share this Atom at all. Matter of fact, I've kind of liked this one better because it's has more color but the other one has more a certain appeal that I liked so much. This picture features the Atom's third costume, from the short lived early 90s JSA series; Al is positioned between Hourman and Dr Mid-Nite. He was wearing this outfit when he died in Zero Hour...

#45 Doctor Mid-NiteAlter Ego: Dr. Charles McNider
One thing unique about Dr. Mid-Nite is all in his mask - that combined with a special visor that allows him to see in the dark and perform his duties as a Crimefighter as in his own right. I loved the Yellow Cresent Moon so much it's adds character to his costume and the Yellow Cresent Moon as buttons for his red tunic blouse underneath that great green cape of his. I find his design to be very unique and very original indeed ... one more thing he had a cool side-kick an owl. I loved that! See additional picture below.

Scans of Dr. Mid-NiteGreat Pictures of Dr. Mid-Nite here - You can clearly see the Yellow Crescent Moon in the 2nd picture vividly and that's the only reason that I've liked about his costume here! My Favorite Picture of All-TimeI just loved this picture!
