#40 SandmanAlter Ego: Wesley Dodds One of the very few Superheroes in a Double-Breasted Suit done just right. To me, Sandman is clean, simple, easy to draw - except that Gas Mask that he wears. I loved the cape that makes him more mysterious of a figure. I was very happy that his suit was drawn in perfection and the purple cape make it even better. That's pretty much sums up Sandman!

Scans of SandmanLong Time and Upstanding Member of the Justice Society of America and All-Star Squadron too. Another favorite picture of Sandman. I've almost used this one for my countdown ... A cool modern drawing of Sandman here.

I do like the Ray's costume a lot. I don't know what the fin on the top of his head is for, but it's a nice, streamlined look, and yellow is an appropriate color for someone named the Ray. I also like Dr Midnight's costume. For some reason, I tend to favor costumes that cover at least part of the face ("Mystery Man") and as Action Ace says, it's a multicolored mish mash of a costume, but it works for me, too. About the Fin - Read the Link. Thanks. Newsarama Link - RAYAh, thanks!

Loving the artwork in that Zatara strip. And the dialogue! How polite and well-mannered Zatara is - "Of course! Come right in!" You can't imagine a thug like Batman saying that.

I had Wesley Dodds as one of my favorite superhero costumes when that was the theme of Classic Comics Christmas years past. One of the coolest costume designs ever!

No love for Sandman's second costume, the purple and gold superhero look?

No love for Sandman's second costume, the purple and gold superhero look? That one looks like an editor said "Get rid of the suit and create me the most generic superhero costume ever!" Which is borne out by Tarantula debuting in an almost identical costume simultaneously.

No love for Sandman's second costume, the purple and gold superhero look? I have very little exposure to this outfit and I've rarely see this version at all. So, sorry that this version was not included at all. I have seen only 2-3 stories and I hardly remember them at all. That's why I did not include it. The other version was widespread and used heavily and his stints on JSA and All-Star made a lasting impressions on me.

#39 Johnny Thunder and Yz, the ThunderboltAlter Ego: John "Johnny" L. Thunder / Cei-U (Say You) One thing I liked about this set-up it's pure and simple and easy to pull off. I don't want to go in great details here but one thing for sure this combination of green and pink is extra-ordinary spectacular that I fell in love with it. He is a perfect companion to many heroes and heroines - I have fond memories of him working with Wonder Woman, Doctor Fate, Sandman, and the Golden Age Flash on the old Justice Society of America teams. Everything about him is great and he had a rich history in both JSA and All-Star Squadron.
I find his green suit clean and simple and his choice for a bow-tie is very unique and different - Excellent Choice here DC Comics and that's why he ranked #39 on my list. You can't go wrong with it. Johnny Thunder is a team player and I've always admire his character and even amazing Yz, The Thunderbolt. These two are a perfect combo and what so cool about it - you get two characters for a price for one! Yz, the design is near-perfection!

The Sandman look is OK. I would say that. with so many heroes coming to the big screen, and it seems like the film makers shy away from the traditional bright spandex costumes that the superheroes actually wear in the comics, I think Sandman is one hero that Hollywood wouldn't need to make any costume adjustments to. And, I have to say, he actually does look pretty bad-ass in that middle MechaGodzilla scan (the one just below the JSA scan, where he's nonchalantly holding one gun).

I think I first really became aware of Sandman's second costume because it was the one he wore in All-Star Squadron for much of its run.

In Sandman Mystery Theatre, there was a great arc where Wes goes to a costume party and dresses in the Kirby costume for it.

That one looks like an editor said "Get rid of the suit and create me the most generic superhero costume ever!" Same thing happened to the Crimson Avenger. And, decades later, to Atlas' Scorpion.
