Dr. Mid-Nite is one of my favorites as well. This multicolored mish mash of a costume worked for me.

#44 Sargon the Sorcerer Alter Ego: John Sargent Similar to Zatara, another mystic and quite charming individual I say. I think his Ruby of Life is the centerpiece of his costume that housed in his gold turban headgear that he wears. The one big edge over Zatara at 46 it is his suit that looks more regal, more a magician feel than Zatara and that's why Sargon has the edge here. And of course his red cape combined with the ruby in his turban completes it. Zatara looks very dull compares to Sargon. Very regal looking and quite dashing too. Note to all: #43 will shock you! ... That's on Monday!

#43 Captain CometAlter Ego: Adam Blake I loved the blue boots, blue trim, and the overall general design of this character that's overlapped between Golden Age and Silver Age of DC Comics. I generally do not care for this character at all and not a favorite of mine because I consider him a little too far fetched for me at the time I was reading comic books in the early 60's. I also loved the white belt with the eagle insingia - but the only thing that I did not care for it's white trunks. There's a lot of people in my hometown were Captain Comet fans and loved his adventures in STRANGE ADVENTURES comic books back in those days and he's was very popular among older boys between the ages of 16 to 19. Even some girls like him too because he's rugged and handsome character. Great Concept and light-years in design for a comic book hero back then. He's belong in my list of 50 of the best designs in the Golden Age of Comics.

Scans of Captain CometCaptain Comet (real name Adam Blake) is a fictional DC Comics superhero. He made his first appearance in the June 1951 issue of Strange Adventures. In 1931, John and Martha Blake gave birth to a son named Adam. Moments after his birth, a comet streaked across the Midwestern sky. Although the Blake’s were unaware of it at the time, the comet had emitted low-level waves of radiation, which triggered multi-genetic cell growth in Adam Blake’s body. He began to develop incredible mental and physical powers from an early age. He became virtually indestructible and his superhuman stamina prevented him from ever tiring. Adam became concerned over keeping his seemingly limitless abilities a secret. Adam could not keep his abilities safely hidden for long. In 1951, a global catastrophe took place, which forced Adam to reveal himself to the public. A space-faring alien race known as the Astur had travelled to Earth in the hopes of making it habitable for their kind. The Asturs could not survive in an oxygen-rich environment, so they used special machines to siphon away the planet’s oxygen. Calling himself Captain Comet for the very first time, Adam donned a space suit and oxygen tank and … well needless to say … saved the planet! I prefer this version to be more acceptable ...

#42 HawkgirlAlter Ego: Shiera Sanders Hall, first Girlfriend to Hawkman, Carter Hall, and later Wife. Reason why she is so low on this list because her costume doesn't do justice with/pairing up with Hawkman when seen together. I think that the costume design is rather nice, clear, and crisp. But, the colors of red and green doesn't match well and the hues and among other things. I know I'm shocking you here - but this costume is too drab looking and her headgear is too Batman-Like and having said that; I've think about that all the time. There are too many negatives and not enough positives on this costume design and I've hard time debating to place Captain Comet at 44 and Hawkgirl at 43 - and after looking at the costume of Hawkgirl it's preaches formality at her very best and that's why I placed her ahead of Captain Comet of whom of I don't care for at all. It's a very difficult decision and I know that I've made the right one placing her at Number 42.

Scans of HawkgirlIn these two scans that I've provided here are excellent examples of how the artists back then did not do any justice of matching up both Hawkman and Hawkgirl together and the bottom picture of the scans that I just showed you looked more bra-like and that's a big joke to me. I had a hard time accepting that and therefore place her in the 40's for that reasons alone. To me, they goofed in a very big way! Here's one unknown artist did a nice rendering of Hawkgirl back in the Golden Age, this artist did great justice with her mask/headgear and still maintain the bra-like top and back then it's was considered a little bit scandalous because kids are reading comics back then. I was told of that from Comic Books Owners that I know of. Number 41 - Will appear on Wednesday!

I do like the Ray's costume a lot. I don't know what the fin on the top of his head is for, but it's a nice, streamlined look, and yellow is an appropriate color for someone named the Ray. I also like Dr Midnight's costume. For some reason, I tend to favor costumes that cover at least part of the face ("Mystery Man") and as Action Ace says, it's a multicolored mish mash of a costume, but it works for me, too.

That's one thing that I've like about Dr. Mid-Nite is that he has an owl for a sidekick and very few heroes has animal sidekicks back in those days - thanks for pointing that out.

#41 Shining KnightAlter Ego: Sir Justin, with his trusted side-kick Victory, his winged horse! One of better Knights in DC Comics History and one of the most gifted one too; I consider his costume is spot-on and very English-Like and combined with the proper use of colors - yellow, red, white, and black - this costume did everything in it's powers to translate a near perfection of design and clarity. The Eagle insignia in black is regal, dignified, and properly drawn and that's alone makes it a great costume for the Golden Age of Comics. DC COMICS did a great job drawing him because they did it very realistically because the yellow portion of his costume resembled like chain-link armour - a fitting period piece of the days of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. With his winged horse Victory another fine example of an animal side-kick so prominently displayed here and one of great members of the Seven Soliders of Victory and a standing member of the All-Star Squadron as well. It's funny that his horse is named after a group that he belong in the first place. So, he placed in Number 41 in my best costume in the ranks of the Golden Age of Comics.

Scans of Shining KnightThese two illustrations showcased the Shining Knight in the beginning of the Golden Age of Comics. According to my notes about him - these two illustrations are the earliest drawings of this character from DC Comics. One of the modern drawing of the Shining Knight and his winged horse Victory! 10 down, and 40 to go ... it's going to get a little tougher from now on!
