This week's theme: Obscure or stupid villains.
It's hard to find a villain that only appeared once because it seems like everybody shows up again at some point. But we can still find covers with little-known villains and some of them will probably be pretty lame.
There are rules -
- Post one, and only one, classic cover that fits the theme of the contest.
- Cover must be from a published comic book or collected volume published before Jan 1 2005.
- Covers must be posted before voting begins.
- Voting begins on Tuesday October 13 at 12:01am PST and ends at 11:59am PST.
- Vote by posting the name of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most.
- Put the name in bold. Votes not in bold will not count.
- The winner of the contest is the entrant with the most votes after the voting period ends.
- The winner chooses the theme for the next week's contest.
- If you don't think the cover fits the theme, don't vote for it; don't post disparaging remarks about it. If a cover is more recent than the Classic time frame, kindly point it out and the poster can choose an alternate before voting begins.
- When posting covers, remember GCD (aka comics.org) doesn't allow hot-linking and if you use them for the source to post your cover, you will see it because it is in your cache, but no one else will be able to see it.
Use a source other than the GCD for your image for others to see it.

My pick: I thought about restricting this to obscure Batman villains but I figured I should open it up for every super-hero who has any stupid villains to endure and apprehend. But Batman sure has a lot of stupid villains running around in his Rogues Gallery. Like this guy, The Fantastic Dr. No-Face. You got to admire his persistence and his faith in his plan to wipe out faces just because his own face was erased. So there he is, hanging off the side of a cliff, blasting away at Gotham City's Mount Rushmore with a machine-gun like it's the most normal thing in the world. TAKE THAT, GIANT STONE BATMAN-FACE!! HA HA HA HA!! Because it's Gotham City and that's just what you do after a terrible lab accident takes your face. I actually own this issue. It's absolutely bonkers. I love the Jack Schiff era.

I really wanted to go with that issue of Sub-Mariner w/Dr Dill, but sadly he doesn't appear on the cover. And Batman had nothing on Wonder Woman when it came to lame villains And the way they hype this guy doesn't help. 'most unique' 'new Golden Age of Villainy' Talk about setting yourself up for failure.

As far as I'm aware, the Spider-Men of Mars have only ever appeared once. I can't think why...

This is actually the second of four appearances of the Locust (he first appeared in X-Men #24) over the past 50+ years, but this Gil Kane cover is so much better than the Werner Roth one for his first appearance. My personal copy of this book is in so much better shape, so I may have to get around to uploading it to Comic Book Database to replace this beat-up one at some point.

I like comics that are a little beat up. This, by the way, was my first issue of the Hulk. (But I did find #193 behind the #194's in a different spinner rack a week later.) I really love those first few issues of Sal Buscema's run, so I have no way to objectively critique them. To me, this is a great issue, and the two-parter in #195 and #196 is one of my favorite Abomination storylines. (Maybe it's not quite as good as the time Abomination teamed up with Wendigo to steal Hulk's Hostess fruit pies.)
