If you could get one art commission from any classic Legion artist, living or passed on, who would be the artist and what would be the details of your request? Dave Cockrum, and I'd ask for each hero that he designed a costume for.

I'm thinking Cockrum as well, and just had an idea pop into my head. I'm imagining a "Bring on the Bad Guys" type commission from his classic 70's era. I would refine the final details, but the gist would be the core LSV in front, with Lightning Lord at the center and Cosmic King and Saturn Queen on either side. I'd like the Infinite Man towering the background, also centered. Mordru needs to be in there as well, and he's a giant so also background to the side. Time Trapper I'm thinking up in the clouds for some reason as almost a half mirage. Lots of other classic villains can fill this in (with some flying in the air to balance out the layout), but the Fatal Five, Charma, and Grimbor fairly prominent. Also, SJNeal I really like your choice! While I'm normally more of an older Legion reader, I do like a lot of the costume designs from the era you selected. And MDG , I've been smitten with that one since you posted it in the costume thread, I am so jealous, it's awesome!

Totally agree with Jeff Moy, inspired choice for I love his work.
Another choice would be Greg LaRocque and I would request a pic, any pic of my favorite Legionnaire Mon-El.
I had a chance awhile back to meet LaRocque. His table was right beside Jerry Ordway's table. I had a Superman book that I wanted Ordway to sign so I waited in his line first. (And if you've never seen/met Ordway, he looks like Clark Kent, glasses and all. I did a double-take when I first saw him and then smiled).
So while I was waiting in Ordway's line, I kept watching LaRocque calmly sit at his table sketching (his line wasn't as long as Ordway's). I got to meet Ordway, he was very nice and kind and got his autograph but then I got sidetracked by the friends I was with and drifted off after something else (I forget what) but by the time I remembered about LaRocque, he had already left when I got back to his table.
Oh well, maybe next time.

Yeah, Moy and LaRocque are great choices, too.

LaRocque was definitely a great Legion artist, I especially liked those early issues when Mahlstedt was his inker. Between him and Steve Lightle, that Baxter series had some fantastic art!

I think Adventure Comics #369-70 is my favorite story from the Shooter era. It's the storyline where the Legion fight Mordru in Smallville. With Jack Abel on inks, Mordru never seemed so terrifying. Dude is one of the great super villains. Not sure he gets his due. He's actually one of the best parts of the maligned 5YL Legion run.

I started reading the Legion in the 70's during the Earthwar event where Mordru was also the bad guy and he terrified the heck out of me back then, great villain for sure!

I am still slowly going through Archives Volume 2 and I really enjoyed the Adventure Comics issue 309 story with Jungle King/Monster Master and the Legion of Super-Monsters. I hope the Legion of Super-Monsters "members" appear again, especially Omnibeast and Drill Beast.

Speaking of the Shooter era, is there anything worth reading that bridges the Shooter era with the Cockrum era? I’ve heard the short backup stories in Action Comics aren’t very good. Not sure about the George Tuska stuff in Superboy.

Not sure about the George Tuska stuff in Superboy. Shooter's run does inclide about half of those Action backups. The only thing there is between Shooter and Cockrum are a few more Action backups written by E Nelson Bridwell or Cary Bates (with Win Mortimer on pencils), then a few Cary Bates-E Nelson Bridwell/George Tuska backup Superboy issues. Personally, I like the Action comics run. Yes, the stories are short, and consequently you won't see any epic stories, but they focused on smaller casts and the stories were more personal.

I've read a couple of fun Legion crossovers - one in Scooby Doo Team-Up (which was awesome) and the Legion/Star Trek crossover (which was also very good). Any other good Legion crossovers out there?

Those are the only two I can think of (besides appearances in other DC titles), and love both of them! I like how they used Silver Age Legion for the Scooby Doo story, and Brainiac 5 and Spock's exchanges in the Star Trek series alone are worth the price of admission, though I really enjoyed the whole thing. I too would like to know if there are any other good crossovers I've missed. EDIT: Found two more from 2017: Batman '66 Meets The Legion of Super HeroesLegion of Super-Heroes/Bugs Bunny Special
