This was found by accident ... I don't know if the Planet of the Apes is a fake or not ... but, it's looks really looks like a real thing.

OK, so I came across this 1952 Black Magic Kirby cover the other day. I know there's no connection, and it's a pretty standard arrangement, and this doesn't consitute a swipe or homage or anything like that...but darn it, the BM cover's composition/positioning reminded me of a very famous (later) cover so I'm posting it here. {Spoiler: Click to show}

The Lynx was Jim Mooney's first work in comics and interestingly, helped get him a job drawing Batman later on after Fox Features was sued for ripping off Batman. When Mooney applied for the Batman position at DC, Whitney Ellsworth asked what made him think he was more qualified than so many others to draw the Caped Crusader. Mooney replied, "Well you thought my work looked enough like him when you sued Fox over this" and showed him his work on The Lynx. It's easy to see how he got the job. And compare Blackie's face in the bottom splash with Robin's in the first two panels from Detective Comics 38 To borrow a Burt Ward Robin-ism: Holy Sticky Fingers!
