Those words or expressions we use casually on an almost daily basis that mean squat to mainstream audiences, your favorites.
I love how "Pre-crisis" or "post-crisis" defines so many things for us in such an efficient way that we don't even need to give specifics.
Mylar or Kirbyesque are also favorite lexical tropes of "our" little corner.
But the oddest to me is the "revisionist" wave, how were often described the UK invasion with Moore, Gaiman, Mossison, etc. I guess it's less popular now, but back in the 90ies, the Comics Journal and many other actors of the scene described the phenomenon of those brit writers re-inventing old characters from top to bottom yet aknowledging their past as such.
Oh, and my least favorite comics-specific word would probably be "decompression"...

'Retcon' is a good one.... maybe soft vs. hard 'reboot'.

'Retcon' is a good one.... maybe soft vs. hard 'reboot'. Soft vs. hard reboot is a computing term. Hard reboot cycles power whereas soft reboot does not.

In the past, for anything with more than one possible outcome, I've described the outcome(s) that didn't happen as "the Earth-2 version". Flunked an algebra test? Well, yeah, but on Earth-2, I got an A!

Imaginary Stories vs. real stories Elseworlds CGC complete run pull list most creators name vis-a-vis name recognition once you get past Stan Lee and maybe Bob Kane, Siegel Shuster, Jack Kirby or Robert Kirkman variant cover 90s (boo hiss reaction) the 616 tradewaiting Church copies (or any pedigree collection name) event fatigue legacy heroes continuity (it's used but it's not used as a sacred cow the way comic fans use it) bag and board long box
and likely tons more we take for granted

True, but if you used to with someone in regard to a comic book character, I think Joe Average would be pretty much at a loss as to what you mean.

A few things, like long boxes, continuity, legacy heroes... probably could be logicked out, but don't roll off the tongue. The rest are great... CGC and 616 are perfect examples!

Trade or graphic novel...and the difference between them. I think we've had a multi-page thread debating this... no one REALLY knows. And really, they're used interchangibly for the most part. Remember 'Trade Paperback' is originally a book term that refers to the size of the book. Trade paperbacks are the larger ones (almost the size of a hardcover) that are usually priced between $14-$18 (for novels)... in contrast to 'Mass Market Paperbacks', which are the smaller ones that most people think of when they think paperback novel.

'Retcon' is a good one.... maybe soft vs. hard 'reboot'. wikipedia pretty much puts retroactive continuity on All Star Squadron #18, so it does have roots in comics, for as much as one believes Wikipedia. I certainly never heard the slang of retroactive history, retcon until comic book communities on the Internet in the late 90's. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retroactive_continuityEdit: I could also think of lots of terms under "terms overused in comics or by their fans" thread.

'Retcon' is a good one.... maybe soft vs. hard 'reboot'. Good ones, but I guess quite common with move franchises nowadays "the Earth-2 version", Elseworlds CGC the 616 tradewaiting Church copies (or any pedigree collection name) event fatigue long box Pre-Code Big two all great exemples, and John Byrne also made me laugh I'm asking for exemples like that since I'm writing a little piece of fiction on te meta side, that will mostly use this kind of lexical range, if not only
