Whenever they decide to take something special and unique and merge it or alter it to conform with the normal and Mundane , I just shrug my shoulders. The original concept and stories are still intact and no one is going to enter my home and steal my 12 issue Watchmen comics. We'll always have Paris. One of the wisest things Frank Miller ever said was that fans are entitled to have their own personal continuities. If you don't like something, it simply didn't happen. This philosophy would serve a lot of fans I think.

This philosophy would serve a lot of fans I think. This reasoning about continuity has served me well to keep me enjoying the various stories in both comics and movie versions of these characters. If I don't like a young black Wally West, I can read my Flash run from 1987. If I hated Infinite Crisis ( which I did) I can enjoy yet original COIE. And so on.

I know it is pretty much a rip off that DC is using Dr. Manhattan, but I oddly like the idea that somehow all of this is tied together, even if it is just fan service. Problem is that DC just needs to really actually use these different continuities. All they got to do is get good and DC Who's Who geeked out and put a lead page on the monthly comics setting where it takes place with a recap.

Honestly, they don't even need a full page.
Who doesn't have access to the internet ? Just put the dccomics.com address with summaries of what's happened.
I don't have a problem with the Dr Manhattan fix.
If Geof Johns isn't writing all of Rebirth, at least he's guiding it.
Honestly, when Didio & Lee are finally done, I hope Johns is the next E-i-C.
I'll buy that Rebirth special Wednesday.

Already ordered copies of both the regular and special midnight release covers. My first physical comics in about a year.
Will probably pick it up digitally as well. I know I can't wait for them to get here in the mail.

I must confess I sent an email last night to my LCS to tell them to put the one-shot aside for me, which I never thought I'd do, especially since I've been bored by every single GJohns comics I read, but those spoilers seems to make sense of the whole affair in a much better way then anything "big DC continuity-wise" since the 52 series...

I agree, the whole Watchmen intergration into the DCU doesn't feel like a total asspull, it feels completely natural. I am kind of curious what the Watchmen crew will make of their Charleton counterparts though. I can certainly imagine Question and Rorscach beating the shit out of each other

Does anybody know where the JSA is in all of this? I thought they were to be a big part, or is that yet to come? Closest we got was an elderly Johnny Thunder?

JSA is Earth-2 Society, if you can call it that. Have been hearing mixed opinions on it while on excursions to 4chan's comics and cartoons board, really just sounds like another paint by numbers example of higher up meddling in something that had/has the potiential to be great. I mean I love the idea of a legion of "Wesley Doods era" Sandmen taking over Earth-2 like some Hydra-esque Stormtroopers

So wondering where the originals are going to show up?

To be honest, I haven't paid much attention to the "grander" picture of the DCU for a long time. My own personal interest and level of investment in that sort of careful, almost quizzical, prodding and analysis of Time-Warner's comic book sundries ends at around 2006

Huh. I didn't hate it. In fact, I actually kind of liked it. I won't get into spoilers, but seeing two of my favorite Post-Crisis characters back in the spotlight put a smile on my face.

Just read Rebirth #1. Best book I've read in years.
For reference, DC books were what brought me into comics around 1972. I read them religiously for the next 20 years, then sort of sporadically the next 14. It looks promising that this rebirth can wash away the mediocre taste of the new 52 and make DC great again.
And fwiw, I was very skeptical and almost skipped this book/event altogether. I figured there was nothing Geoff Johns could write to get me back in the fold. Looks like he might have after all.

I couldn't help but read the spoilers when they hit over the weekend so the final reveals probably didn't hit me the way seeing the Anti-Monitor on that last splash page of the Sinestro War beginning, but I still enjoyed the book. Geoff Johns can still pull at the things that made us all comic fans when he's focused. I haven't cared for much of his JL run up until I got out of comics around 18 months ago or so but that could also be a product of the mostly soullessness of Nu52 DC. This issue isn't going to get me to run out and start buying comics again, but it certainly feels like a step in the right direction. If nothing else, it got me to post here when I've mostly lurked or haven't even stopped in much since joining.

Loved it.
I'm sure that in my own mind I hyped it to a ridiculous level, but it was everything I wanted it to be.
