This is a thread to share or discuss bits of news about comics and comic properties. A new book is announced and you want to share the news? A copy of AF #15 sells for a record price...a new comic book movie trailer is out...a classic creator does a new project...a classic property is revived by a different publisher, a new collection or tribute book is announced or whatever it may be....
With SDCC on the horizon and NYCC soon after there will be lots of bits coming out that don't fit other threads per se, and are big enough topics for their own threads, so this is the place for them, but thoe types of announcements happen all year long too.

So first bit I saw today as a pre-SDCC announcement-Dynamite has acquired the rights to produce new material for Will Eisner's The Spirit. No creative teams announced yet. I enjoyed the Spirit/Rocketeer cross-over IDW did last year (with DC) so I am not opposed to new Spirit material, but I am a bit wary of how Dynamite might re-envision it. Hopefully it retals the spirit of the Spirit when it comes out.

It starts with work by Darwyn Cooke, and has contributions by Mark Schultz, David Hine, Dean Motter, Paul Rivoche, and a lot of other greats. Well worth tracking down.
Whenever there's a Dynamite re-envisioning, I always assume that Matt Wagner will be involved, which is a good thing. He tends to elevate the artists that Dynamite employs.

I am kind of hoping Mark Waid will be involved. He and Nick have a working relationship and Waid really "got" the character in the Pulp Friction x-over with Rocketeer. But Mark seems full bore with plans for Thrillbent, his Marvel stuff and another OGN for Legendary, and both his Dynamite series are either ending or his run is ending on them, so who knows.

More Dynamite news...the first official Dynamite John Carter book is coming and Ron Marz is attached as writer. Marz has been doing adaptations of Burroughs stuff in web comic form for the Burroughs estate and was tapped by Dynamite to write their new John Carter Warlord of Mars series, the first time they have used the trademarked John Carter in a title.

I like Dynamite but am very mixed on their take on things. A lot of times the artists they use are of lesser quality than I'm used to seeing from other publishers, and their commitment to projects is sporadic. For example, I would love to have Project Super Powers back. Apparently it is returning after years on hiatus. Holding my breath, but will cautiously check it out.
