I just can't believe there isn't a Jean Grey Fan here ... Unbelievable! IMO Marvel "ruined" the X-Men. I liked them until they undid Jean's death. I started to lose interest because it was handled so poorly that it cheapened her sacrifice & made Scott a total jerk. That's one of the ways that Marvel ruined the X-Men. Overdoing Wolverine (whom I used to love) and bringing dystopian alternate future reality characters onto the mainstream X-Men team were other big, big ways, that they ruined the X-Men. Oh, and there being about 50 million mutants in the Marvel universe didn't help, either. When it come to the X-Men, i try to pretend that anything after 1984 didn't happen.

I do think that Martian Manhunter is one character that did get improved over the years.

I do think that Martian Manhunter is one character that did get improved over the years. In my eyes, it was more like a gradual improvement over the years that in my mind doesn't get recognized and that's how I see it. You made an excellent point here.

I haven't read the Martian Manhunter title that recently got cancelled but just picked it up on sale. Will be reading it soon. Written by Rob Williams, it sounds crazy good.

I haven't seen this costume/outfit before and it's looks kind of odd seeing him like this. I have seen the other one that you've posted and I don't care for that costume/outfit at all. This is one of many reasons why I don't care for current DC and Marvel makeovers of their heroes and I'm sticking with Batman 66 and Dynamite Comics for the duration.

I think they tried to emphasize how strange and truly alien Jonn is despite having such depth of soul and fighting on our side despite coming across kind of monsterish.

Ostrander and Mandrake's Martian Manhunter series from 1998 was pretty spiffy. Not as good as The Spectre, but still a good read.

#24 The Joker - DC Comics CharacterMy favorite artist that drew the Joker was Murphy Anderson and Joe Giella. I will be sharing more about them tomorrow. I will be covering four things and other few surprises along the way about the Crown Prince of Crime and my liking to this diabolical and fiendish character that DC Comics created for Batman to fight! 1. Murphy Anderson & Joe Giella 2. Best Cartoon Version of the Joker, I will be sharing my top three cartoons of all time - Version Wise 3. Best Joker TV and Movies, my rank of the top three and you are in a surprise of why I pick that Joker the best. 4. Jared Leto Joker - My Thoughts about him in General. About my Countdown, I'm afraid that this might take me until Thanksgiving to complete it and having thought of that it will be an extensive look at my remaining characters and I feel that I have more grounds to covers them all and realizing that it will be more stuff that I have to cover and combine that with my Water Polo League of which I have 45 matches to go and practices to attend it might go until end of the Year for me to reach Number 1. I just wanted to warn all of you here. Time for me to change my Avatar to the Joker!

Murphy Anderson & Joe GiellaI tried to find good examples of their work that I consider it a masterpiece by my own artistic judgment and having said that they captured the Joker's Villainy just short of perfection. The colors that they use is out of the world, it's bold, crisp, and downright evil. Murphy Anderson is a genius in the Silver Age of Comics and I consider him one of my favorite artists in DC Comics History - it is his vision that captured the soul of the Joker and he literally made the Joker visible and bold in terms of his absolute terror on the pages of DC Comics books that features Batman and it's likes. Joe Giella is a perfect complimentary piece to Murphy's work and I just loved his bold inks and when they both work together with Anderson's penciling and artistic capabilities these two are genius working together. More I think about it - I just now have my favorite pair of Penciler and Inker in DC Comics History because I seen a lot of Silver Age Stuff in my lifetime and that's the era that I grew up from. Sorry, that I could find any good examples of their work but when they draw the Joker together they created a magic of pure villainy that can't be ignored. The rich colors of Joker's Red Lips, the slight shade of light blue in Joker's Eye, the uncut of Joker's Hair, and the Rich Hues of his Purple Coat and Green Shirt - Combined that with his dark hues of his Hair made it memorable. I just in awe of Murphy Anderson and Joe Giella's Art in the Silver Age of Comics that features a lot of heroes and villains and their is no better talent than these two working together.

Favorite Scans of Jean Grey Part 3 of 6My Comic Book store have this book for $18 and I will be picking it up next Friday. ... Whenever I see a page or panel like this I always think what a shame it was Don Heck had to waste his talent on a superhero genre that was so incompatible with it. Just this one splash page makes me realise that I would love to have seen a Don Heck series about the fashion industry. Which makes me wonder: did he do any romance comics? He must have, I imagine, since all the artists of that generation seem to have done a bit of everything at one time or another. I'm thinking they're probably worth seeking out. Right you are, berkley; as you surmised, Heck worked on other genres including war, western, monster--and yes, romance comics, starting in the late 1950s (for Atlas/Marvel) and then picking up steam in the mid-1960s with DC and then when Marvel revived its romance line. Heck was known for his attractive women, which is why Kirby suggested him when DC was looking for a penciler for the Batgirl feature in the early 1970s.

BEST JOKER ON TELEVISION and MOVIESNumber One - Jack NicholsonBest of Jack Nicholson's Joker Sorry, Ledger fans - I consider Jack's interpretation of this character more in my taste than Heath's and I have to say this Jack gave it flair, style, and composure to this role and I feel that this is the Joker that it's meant to be. I have seen this movie - Batman 1989 a better film all around than any other film that featured the Joker. I wished that they had not killed him at the end and reason for it - I wanted to have Jack around for another film. The Makeup, the Costume, and the way they put him together was a masterpiece. Ledger was sloppy, too bizarre, and most importantly I had a hard time grasping his character of which they gave him an Academy Award for best supporting actor - posthumously and I can see that given to him with the respect that he deserved. Nicholson had experience, substance, and class to this role and he really wanted this role in begin with and that's why I feel he is the best Joker around. Number Two - Cesar RomeroBest of Cesar Romero's Joker He's the Joker that I grew up with and I consider his laugh the best of the best and his costume is exceptional back then and they did a great job with the makeup and protecting Cesar's prized mustache that he did not want to shave off during his three seasons of Batman, Starring Adam West and Burt Ward. He was one of the best villains on this show and I consider him a classic villain for the 60's that took the Joker into the world of camp and made it special for all of us. I just find his characterizations is spot on and most importantly he literally enjoy doing it. The way he uses his hands to clap it makes it special to show his enthusiasm in his attempt to defeat Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder! I just loved his performance and that's why I wished everyone here have the same passion as I enjoy watching him taking on the Clown Prince of Crime. Number Three - Heath LedgerBest of Heath Ledger's Joker The two scenes that bothers me - the Hospital Scene and the Burn Money Scene and I considered them too complex and I had to watch this movie three times to understand it and that alone is way too many times for me to consider the wide range of complexities that made it hard to digest it. His Makeup was too bizarre to me and they made him to dark of a character and I just had a hard time understanding why they did this. I just loved the overall appeal of his role, but these two scenes made him too much of a psychopath to the extreme that I was surprised that his movie did not - The Dark Knight in 2008 escaped with a R rating and given a PG-13 instead? I would not take a child under the age of 12 to see this movie - it's that brutal and his acting as the Joker would scare a lot of young children back then. I'm sorry everyone that this portrayal is too much for me to take in when I watched this movie for the first time back in 2008. It's a great film and had wonderful praises and it was by far the best performance of Heath Ledger's short career as an actor and I was so sad that he died after this movie was finished. He deserved that Oscar that was given to him posthumously and I'm truly sorry that I had to rank him - Number 3 in this short list of Joker. Number Four Jared LetoJared Leto Joker I haven't seen this movie and I'm not a Suicide Squad Fan and my dear friend told me that this movie isn't your cup of tea. No opinion on his performance at all.

BEST CARTOON JOKERNumber 1 ... Joker from Batman, the Animated Series Because of it's longevity on the television world and Mark Hamill from Star Wars did a fantastic job with it and i consider him the best Joker in both Cartoon, Television, and Movies. His voice is just too darn perfect and I just fell in love with his voice and the direction of the cartoon itself was a masterpiece. Best of the Joker from Batman the Animated Series Number 2 ... Joker from the New Adventures of Batman and RobinAt the time it's came on it was a masterpiece and every story and every villain was done just short of perfection and i have fond memories watching it as a kid and I was in awe of the many scripted stories that just done right and I find it very outstanding and did it in the flair of the Joker at the time that was made. I was wrestling with this dilemma yesterday and I thought that this animated series was better than Batman - Brave and the Bold of which done very cheaply and not as good as this one and the one on top - Batman, the Animated Series. Best Cartoon from that Era Number 3 ... Joker from Batman - Brave and the BoldThis cartoon of the three that I just mentioned is the worst of the three and I consider it that it was done poorly and did not meet my expectation. I'm sorry that I turn some of you off and i just find it not my cup of tea. I just find it too crude and the animation done in a chopping way. Best Cartoon from that Series This is a difficult rating and I had to give the New Adventures of Batman and Robin over the Brave and the Bold because of the writing of the show itself. I find the Batman - Brave and the Bold too colorful, spotty, and done very cheaply and having said that it's cause me to rethink this and that's why I did the other first and I need another day to decide what cartoon is the the 2nd Place one ... and I was struggling with that. I watched all three and the one with Batman, the Animated Series - The Joker was Cream of the Crop and I just love Mark Hamill role into it.

Dear All,
I'm going to take a couple weeks off from this thread to re-think my final 23 because every single of them has lots of history and I'm rushing things through. I wanted these 23 characters gets the attention that they deserved and I'm stopping sharing things about the Joker. I resumed my own Avatar and I'm going to need at least 2-3 weeks to prepare the final 23 characters so that I can better prepare for them and decided to finish it by end of this year or earlier. I don't know when I will get it done ... period.
