Unemployed means time enough to binge on Anime! Finished off Dragonball Super today and dare I say it? It was SUPER. The Battle Royal between the universe's was fun. Had plenty of spoofing of it's own tropes and the 7th Universe team dominated in every way. Each member had some splendid solo spotlight fights, the "villains" of the other Universes were defeated while Goku and Vegeta showed the strength, courage and honor of humanity and Saiyan's in particular.
Vegeta finally steps out of the role for the stereotypical grumpy 2nd best fighter playing 2nd banana to Goku. He puts aside his arrogance while fulfilling his place as Prince of the Saiyans in guiding, teaching and encouraging the growth of the other Universe Saiyans. Vegeta also lets his pride fall away when he selflessly gives the last of his energy to provide Goku the strength for continuing the battle.
Then there is Goku, who actually battles with his mouth shut and mind focused on winning as he goes God Saiyan. These fights are awe inspiring and spectacular, showing off incredible animation in the battles as each struggle increases exponentially until his honor and courage allows Universe 7 to win (won't spoil it more than that) in the end.
If this ended the anime, it would go out on a high note.

I finally finished the Neon Genesis Evangelion Rebuild movies. Now I know I'm getting old because they were confusing as hell.

Finished off the 1 season 26 episode anime Utawareumono. Part feudal Japan revolution, part fantasy with human and humanistic characters in every way except they have ears and tails, part historical, part fighter based, part characterization piece and partly interesting. Wasn't sure what to expect with this one other than knowing it was based upon a video game. Overall quite enjoyable anime of a different style than the usual fast paced, in your face action and fights.
This one has plenty of battles, but those fights have consequences and meaning that you normally won't see in anime. A slower paced story with an emphasis on characters, it does grow on you during the viewing. Some quite gorgeous background scenery with the forests and mountains backdrop, combine with a musical soundtrack that doesn't overwhelm the ear and distract from the watching.
A masked injured amnesiac unable to remove his mask, Hakuoro is nursed back to life by a small girl. The village takes him in and he is adopted into the family and his honor demands he defend the village when it is attacked. The small clan survives as war continues around them and other clans unite with them and Hakuoro is chosen to be their personal "emperor" guiding, uniting and protecting them all. His army grows, gains new warriors as they confront him and earns their respect.
He leads his followers into battle hoping to lead them all into a better future. This anime is very well animated and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Nice to watch something that walks a different path choosing to teach and entertain with morals and caring, concern, compassion and honor.

for some reason last night (ie: not on Black Friday), Amazon had some great box sets on sale.
so I picked up the entire Cowboy Bebop series on Blu for $17. (today it jumped back up to $29 on the actual Black Friday. . so I was glad I logged in after dinner to check out deals)
never actually seen the series. . so excited to see it.
I also picked up from eBay a Malaysian DVD of Godzilla: Singular Point - which I've heard is very good.

Did you get a chance to watch Cowboy Bebop, Bert? One of my favorites (probably 2nd to FMA: Brotherhood).
I stumbled about the 'original' Star Blazers (from the late 70s) in a local library, so I'm watching that. I remember seeing a few random episodes as a kid, and I've since read alot about it, but never actually watched it in order, so I'm excited.
Finished the 1st 2 disks this week (9 episodes)... I didn't realize they set up the solar system in the grand tradition of Burroughs... with life on every planet. The science is so bad I bet even as I kid I would have known it was nonsense, and the Americanized names are really bad, but some great retro fun for sure. Hopefully, the next disk or two will be there when I return these two. (Only 1 week borrowing time, so I didn't go crazy.. not alot of extra TV time rn with baseball started and the basketball playoffs!)

Currently seen the first two episodes of Spy X Family and really enjoying that series (it's also one of the 2 only manga's I'm reading at the moment, so I already knew what to expect).

I saw the manga for that at a book store the other day... definitely was intriguing.

We're not much of anime fans, don't dislike it, but don't watch much. Mrs. MRP has watched a lot more than I have, for certain, but some of our D&D players are huge anime fans, but are unfamiliar with some of the older stuff, so I requested Record of the Lodoss War via interlibrary loan and it arrived today, and we are planning a "watch party" to start watching it Saturday night after the D&D session I run at the local library. I saw part of this a long time ago (on VHS) but never saw it all the way through before.

Started binge watching the English dub of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba on Netflix and am pretty impressed so far. It's a bit gory at times but the story and artwork are really well done.

So a couple of years ago, I watched an episode of Game Center CX that featured an NES/Famicom game called Oishinbo/The Gourmet. It's about a newspaper that, for their anniversary, they're featuring a project called "The Ultimate Menu" which features the best dishes available. It seemed very unique, even for a video game. I eventually learned that it was based on a Manga and Anime of the same name, but the Manga was done very dirty here in the states with only a sliver of it available to read. And the anime? Well, you'd have to take to the "high seas", but thankfully it's started getting translated recently. It's a wonderful watch

Was poking around Disney Plus (now with Hulu added on, they have a bit more of an expanded library) and noticed that they had the subbed and dubbed versions of Hikaru No Go, a series that I've always enjoyed for some reason though I could never be sure why (same with Spice and Wolf). It's about a young boy who wants to sell his grandfather's old go board but ends up with the spirit of an old go teacher as his mentor to gradually learn the game

My daughter and I have been watching Frieren: Beyond Journey's End recently. It starts off slow, and was difficult for my daughter to understand at first, but we gradually began enjoying it. Last night, we started watching what must have been a new arc in the manga, and holy crap was it exciting. We ended up binge watching a bunch of episodes in a row. Kudos to everyone involved for holding back for so long, then dialing it up to 11.

Japanese creators seem to have an innate ability to turn any activity into an epic sports story. HnG also hired a high-ranked professional go player, Umezawa Yukari, to serve as technical advisor and also star as the instructor in the live-action go tutorial segments at the end of each anime episode.

I remember getting an issue of Monthly Shonen Jump where it had a the first chapter and was hooked immediately. I was also very confused when I found out that that Sai was a man when he's very effeminate looking
