So far things have settled down for Marvel, DC and Image as of right now for January 2017. I have most of Snotgirl, all of Death of X i need to read and some of Superman Rebirth up to issue 11. The rest of 2017 starting in March or April, I need to get back into buying old single back issues of classic stuff such as Fantastic Four, original Uncanny X Men, 1990s Wolverine, Amazing Spider Man to catch up on some stuff, 1987 Byrne Superman Man of Steel issues and stick with buying the rest of Alpha Flight from issue 12 to 129. the rest of Alpha Flight will take a long time to do but the other old comics Ill have an easier time with since I know what minor story arcs etc I know what Im going to buy anyway. Right now the Superman Rebirth and Batman Rebirth are 2 of the best books out there. Alpha flight is a great book to work on. Inexpensive and a great read. Well at least the Byrne run.

Well, most of the comic related resolutions that I have I've already done in the past several years - these have been:
1) Stop collecting floppies cold turkey; I'm not that much into new comics anymore anyway, and the bags & boards take up an excessive amount of room.
2) Only get Collected Editions (CE's) and that's it, i.e. Trades & HC's.
3) Unload any floppies when I get CE's that contain said floppies.
So, this year I'll be getting some new CE's & just continuing to get rid of floppies that I don't need.

Buying Goals - Make a dent in my Sandman Mystery Theatre collection(Missing about 20 issues)I Likely am going to try and buy collected editions for some of these or digital issues because I want to finish reading this. Although I am planning to buy the single issues to. - Continue to look for The Spirit kitchen Sink issues. - Buy more collected editions of Spider-man Materials to replace single issues for more recent stuff. - Start to collect single issue of Marvels ROM series. - Continue to buy the FLASH by Mark Waid collected edtions.
Reading Goals - Re-read The complete Calvin and Hobbes - Re-read Marvels Transformers series. - Re-read Strangers in paradise - Read my entire back log of physical and digital comics. -Re-read "Valhalla" (Danish comicbook about the norse gods. In tone and such somewhat of the European tradition of stuff like Astrerix) I will likely add more for this list before the end of the month.
So status after first month: ´Buying: I have not really done much here. I have bought and pre ordered the latest Spider-man Epic collections and Waid Flash but that is pretty much it. I am going to be scouting ebay for the next few weeks to try and get a Spirit or ROM haul but so far not much.
Reading: I am re-reading through Calvin and Hobbes. about 1/4 the way. Its just as good as I remember. Other then that I have made huge dent in reading all my physical issues and really only have the new 52 flash omnibus left to finish. Digital reading is a little different in that I will go some time with out reading much and then when going on a long train trip I will finish a whole bunch in one go.
How is everybody else doing?

I've tweaked my reading goals a bit. I forget what I posted here, read at least one book a day I think. Probably hit that, barely.
But now I've finally confronted a long time problem of mine. In all areas of life, I've often had a sort of "save the best for last" philosophy. As a collector (hoarder honestly), I probably have more comics, films, and games than I'll ever consume in multiple lifetimes. Certain items are pretty much sure bets for great enjoyment.
I love Alan Moore's writing for example, but still have hundreds of his books in my unread piles. It's not like I buy things that I plan to never read, I honestly want to read and re-read all of my ~100,000 books. But with more than half of them unread, I fall into a trap of reading books that I'm pretty sure are going to be mediocre, and saving runs that I am sure I'll love.
I absolutely LOVE Grendel, but have more unread issues than read. Same with Starman, Hellboy, Aliens, Lucifer, and countless others. I guess one of my problems is that I'm too easy to please and like too broad a range of books. I also have gotten into the habit of not reading multiple things but just binging on one title at a time. Convinced myself that my brain is too old to follow 20-50 books a month like I did in my youth, but I bet I could do it again.
But anyway, to help combat this and to eventually actually read all of my "sure hits", I've committed to read at least one book a month of some of my favorite things. Starting with January (mostly yesterday I'll admit), I am going to read all of the following monthly, starting at the beginning.
Swamp Thing JLA Avengers Grendel Hellboy Nexus Aliens
This is in addition to my monthly challenges where I have a checklist to read at least one magazine, digest, treasury, etc, but that's a different story.

In 2016, I acquired 59 Thor issues from Volume 1. I have 77 more issues to get to complete from 126-502. That's my goal. I bought 8 issues so far in 2017. I have 69 issues to go.

I didn't make a resolution, but I hope to read a good chunk of the stuff I've bought the last year or two and not to buy too much new stuff unless I'm sure I'm going to get to it within a few months.

Very late to this and haven't posted here in a while i hope to be more involved this year. My goals are to complete my Avengers volume 1 run. I've been acquiring back issues and need the first 50 or so and some of the last of the series. I'm leaning towards picking up reprints of some kind for the early issues. The later issues of the series should be inexpensive.
As far as reading I really have to chip away at the enormous amount of unread comics i have. Slowly but surely I'll get there.

So its almost the end of March and I thought it might be time to do a status. Unfortunately I have not really done any progress except I have bought quite a few collected editions of Spider-man to replace single issues. While its not exactly great material I am replacing all my clone saga era issues with the collected editions instead. Despite all the problems with them I still get some enjoyment from them because they were really the first period I started reading any superhero comic on a monthly basis. I am hoping to start my Rom collection in the near future thanks to some money back in taxes. I am scouting Ebay to look for some hauls because there doenst really seem to be any way for me to get it otherwise without being killed on shipping.

With just about a month to go in the year, time to look in on how well I have done with my goals for the year. With a major unexpected medical situation putting me out commission for nearly 4 months and leaving the comics room reboot on pause for nearly 6 months, a lot of the reading goals got sidetracked as stuff was simply inaccessible, but there's always excuses. Oh the yearly goals. I debated if I wanted to do them this year or wing it as the year went along. I have a general idea what I want to accomplish, but haven't finalized everything yet, so consider this a first draft... Reading goals:- finish reading all comic stories I own from the 1950s (currently read slightly more than half of what I own and it is the current focus of my reading) (completed 1/17)-read more of the 60s material I own (I am currently just under half of it read, would like to get to 75% or better by year's end I basically accomplished this. I was well into 1966 on the reading when I slacked off, and my percentage was at 74.xx (can't remember the exact number), so we'll call that one done. The rest however... haven't really touched any of these. So I'll take the zero on these goals. did these in spades just with Champion City acquisitions, and I may get another sketch or two or prints next week at Jim and Dan's show. still need 1 SSOC, someone said they had it and would send it, but never received it, so 1 shy of the run. As for Heavy Metal I need 2 issues from 1982 to complete the first part, fro '83-85, I completed '84, need 2 for '83, but '85 still needs to be addressed, as I need 8 and only got 1 issue from that year. Still that leaves only 10 out of the 27 that I started the year needing. But overall, did fairly well filling in HM this year. I'm at 90 out of the first 100 issues in the run. I've added issues from all of these runs this year, but not much on the Phantom or Flash Gordon fronts (only 1 of of each I believe). I finished Demon as noted, added a good chunk of Kamandi, Tarzan, Epic and Star * Reach, and a handful of Rom issues, so not bad so far. aside from keeping up with Future Quest, and gettign the DC/Hanna Barbera cross-over trade, I haven't done much with this in terms of back issues. did okay here. Added some nice Wrightson stuff, including a copy of Frankenstein. Picked up a good bit of Darwyn Cooke too, including New Talent Showcase #19, his first published work and the Batman Ego trade, plus some variants and other bits he did. Added some Kubert covers and a couple trades, another volumes of the Spirit Archives by Eisner and some other stuff too, some Mignolaverse stuff and some issues of Frazetta Fantasy Illustrated and a couple of paperbacks with Frazetta cover art. I don't remember getting any new Steranko stuff though. Haven't really had a chance to do much on the vintage toy end since the surgery. Pretty much all the new acquisitions were before I got laid up in April. I've picked up some new toys (the Usagi stuff, the Wonder Woman movie figures, etc.) but not much on the vintage side, and I don't see that changing much over the next month. Most of the vintage toy shows I go to are summer shows and I missed all of them this year, and I haven't been out scouring the vintage toy stores since I have been back on my feet. I also missed most of tag sale season while laid up, so I'm just going to chalk up toys as a loss for the year. Maybe next year will be better on that front, we'll see. I suppose something could turn up next week at Jim & Dan's as there are some toy dealers there, but I am not expecting it to happen. So overall, made some progress on acquisition goals, not so much on the reading goals I outlined here. Lack of accessibility for a chunk of the year didn't help, but changing priorities of what I wanted to read was a bigger issue. Coming into the year, I was on a bit of a sword & sorcery kick, and my goals reflected that, but I got a sci-fi and horror bug during the year and what I actually read reflected that more. -M

My biggest resolution for the New Year will have to be trying to stay on target of my reading goals. I didn’t read nearly as much of what I planned to, and got way too distracted that I ended up overwhelmed near the end of the year.

My 2017 Classic Comics resolutions are as follows: Buying Goals1. Complete my run of Daredevil from #75 up. I only need 6 issues, all between #77 and #92 to finish this goal. 2. Finally pull the trigger on Star Wars #42 and #68, which are the only two issues I need to complete the series. 3. Buy the Fantastic Four Omnibuses #2 and #3. I will be getting some Amazon gift cards in the next month or so for about $150, and that should cover these. 4. Make a push to complete my Flash collection. I need about 100 issues for the post-Crisis series, most of which I can pick up for about $1 apiece. 5. Find a really nice copy of Captain America #118 to replace my beat-up copy. It's the only book in my entire collection that I'm desperate to upgrade. Reading GoalsI'm not sure if I'm going to join the Reading Club for next year, as it puts a lot of pressure on me to make monthly targets to reach my end goal. I think I may just read as I feel motivated throughout the year. I really want to jump back into Daredevil once I pick up the books I mentioned above, and I think I also want to tackle the Hero for Hire/Power Man/Power Man and Iron Fist series as well. If time permits, I really need to go back and try Master of Kung Fu again; I started it once a few years ago, but I just wasn't feeling it. Review GoalsI want to revive my Captain America review thread. I've got about a dozen ToS issues reviewed already, so I'd like to get those posted as soon as I can. Beyond that, I want to get a minimum of three new ones posted per month starting in February and going forward to keep it fresh. As the year closes out, I figured I would revisit my 2017 resolutions to see how I did: Buying Goals1. Complete my run of Daredevil from #75 up. I only need 6 issues, all between #77 and #92 to finish this goal. - Completed this earlier in the year, and am only three issues from having #65 up. 2. Finally pull the trigger on Star Wars #42 and #68, which are the only two issues I need to complete the series. - Completed this at the one comic book show I went to this year.3. Buy the Fantastic Four Omnibuses #2 and #3. I will be getting some Amazon gift cards in the next month or so for about $150, and that should cover these. Did not do this, and the prices on these have climbed to a point where I may not do it ever.4. Make a push to complete my Flash collection. I need about 100 issues for the post-Crisis series, most of which I can pick up for about $1 apiece. - Made great progress on this. Only need 5 more issues to complete the entire run.5. Find a really nice copy of Captain America #118 to replace my beat-up copy. It's the only book in my entire collection that I'm desperate to upgrade. - Completed this early in the year. Got a great-looking copy to replace the junk one. Reading Goals I'm not sure if I'm going to join the Reading Club for next year, as it puts a lot of pressure on me to make monthly targets to reach my end goal. Reading was hit or miss this year. I borrowed a lot of modern TPBs from my local library, but I didn't do a lot of classic reading out of my own collection. I did read my entire way through Thunderbolts, the Busiek/Perez Avengers series, and am working through the Busiek-started Iron Man series (the Heroes Return one). Probably have read close to 1,000 issues this year, just not a lot out of my own collection.Review Goals I want to revive my Captain America review thread. I've got about a dozen ToS issues reviewed already, so I'd like to get those posted as soon as I can. Beyond that, I want to get a minimum of three new ones posted per month starting in February and going forward to keep it fresh. Things went really well on this for a while, as I finished all of the ToS reviews and even got into the Cap solo series, but things stalled out in late September, which was when I posted my last review (#103). A lot of it is due to a lack of interaction in that thread, as there are not a lot of comments or discussion about the books. My fear is that the material is not accessible or interesting to enough people, and as each review takes a few hours to do (reading once for myself, reading a second time to take notes, writing and posting the review), I'm not sure if I have the energy to keep going with it. I've enjoyed doing it and I certainly appreciate the folks who have posted in that thread, but at this point, it seems like I am probably going to turn my attentions elsewhere, at least for the foreseeable future.
Overall, I finished four of my five Buying Goals, partially completed my Reading Goal, and did do what I set out to do in my Review Goal, so I'm generally pleased with my 2017, and I'm working on my resolutions for next year at this time.

Recently, my brother visited me and brought a chunk of my comics from my parent's house. I now have my entire ASM collection under the same roof. My goal is to go through it all and bag and board and re-read. In addition, I know there are some issues in need of an upgrade so I think that is where I will start this year. I also think that more Spidey buying will occur. This means filling in my run from #50-100, including hopefully purchasing #50. I would also like to pick up the first 20 issues or so of Marvel Team-Up as it is an underrated series but great fun. Basically, a return to the stuff I used to only collect for 2017...Spider-Man! I enjoy looking back at these....
I did not re-read or re-bag all of my Spider-Man. I did some of it though and did upgrade/replace a few issues, while selling off some of my rougher issues. I did NOT purchase ASM #50, sadly. I did get some early Marvel Team-Ups though....still need the first three issues in order to have a healthy starting run.
I did a fair bit of buying this past year, and some selling. I have a count of how much was spent and what was bought overall. I will recap once I get home and consult my book
