Recently, my brother visited me and brought a chunk of my comics from my parent's house. I now have my entire ASM collection under the same roof. My goal is to go through it all and bag and board and re-read. In addition, I know there are some issues in need of an upgrade so I think that is where I will start this year. I also think that more Spidey buying will occur. This means filling in my run from #50-100, including hopefully purchasing #50. I would also like to pick up the first 20 issues or so of Marvel Team-Up as it is an underrated series but great fun. Basically, a return to the stuff I used to only collect for 2017...Spider-Man! I enjoy looking back at these....
I did not re-read or re-bag all of my Spider-Man. I did some of it though and did upgrade/replace a few issues, while selling off some of my rougher issues. I did NOT purchase ASM #50, sadly. I did get some early Marvel Team-Ups though....still need the first three issues in order to have a healthy starting run.
I did a fair bit of buying this past year, and some selling. I have a count of how much was spent and what was bought overall. I will recap once I get home and consult my book
Highlights from my year: - 100 issues of Conan - Daredevil #168 - Iron Man #128 - at least 7 older ASM issues pre #100 including a first Scorpion - Secret Wars #8 - Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 - Captain Marvel #1 - bunch of Warlock, early Marvel Team-Ups, House of Mystery and Batman comics Total for the year would be between 200-300 comics. Total cost per issue roughly $4-5. Most of my spending offset by selling stuff I don't collect so I think it was a pretty good year!

Eleven days left in the year, I think I am done buying for the year (I have a little X-Mas money via gift cards to spend on Amazon though, so I might still get a couple of trades but not any more back issues) and I don't think I am going to get much more read in terms of what was listed here, so time to make a final assessment for the year.
Reading goals
-read all the material I had from the 1950s-accomplished in that I read everything from the 50s I owned when the year began, but I acquired a couple more trades of 50s material near the end of the year that is now unread material from the 50s, but, I'll check it off as done sinc eI got what was already here read. So yes.
-read more 60s material I won, hopefully getting 75% of what I own read-well I read a lot more and fell just short of the 75% goal coming in a about 72% and change, which is good enough to check this one off too. So yes.
-read a large chunk of Conan and Savage Sword-this was a no, I only accomplished a small nibble on this reading about a half dozen issues of each before the room switch made books inaccessible then losing a few months to recovering from surgery, and I never got back to them. I did manage to get the books accessible again in the new room but the room itslef is stil a work in progress, so maybe next year. So nope.
-finish Kull series, Nope.
-read Marvel's Red Sonja stuff. Nope.
-finish reading Warlord. Nope.
-finish reading Grell's Green Arrow. Yes.
-finish reading Starslayer, Nexus and Ms. Tree. Nope, nope, nope.
Comic Buying Goals
-get 2-3 more commissions or pages of original art. I think I blew past that in Conan commissions alone plus all the other stuff. Went heavy on buying art this year. So yes.
-get 2-3 more prints. Again blew this one away, so yes.
-complete Savage Sword. Yes with an asterisk.
-complete Heavy Metal from '77-'82 )still need 2 issues from 82 but got most of it, but ultimately nope.
-work on filling in HM '83-'85.gpt 15 of the 27 issues I needed so a yes.
-complete Jack Kirby's Demon run. Yes.
-work on filling in Kamandi, Tarzan, Rom, Epic Illustrated, Star*Reach, Flash Gordon & Phantom. Got about a dozen or so Kamandi issues, finished the Marvel and Dark Horse Tarzan series, got all but 1 of the DC issues I needed, got a couple ROM issues, and a good bit of Epic I needed , a bunch of Star *Reach, and a few Flash Gordon and Phantom issues, so yes.
-get more comics featuring Hanna-Barbera characters and more comics by more Kirby, Kubert, Eisner, Frazetta, Mignola, Cooke, and Steranko, plus looking to add Wrightson stuff too this year. Well got Creepshow and Frankenstein among others by Wrightson, and a bunch by the other creators. Only HB stuff I got was new coics featuring them, no back issues, but overall going to give this a yes.
Vintage Toy acquisition goals
-acquire 2-3 Micronauts pieces, only got one so nope.
-top 5 wants and and 10 inch Mego Flash Gordon figs NOPE!
-acquire at least 5 pieces from other lines (got 3 Silver Age DC Mego-style figs and a handful of 90s Flash Gordon carded figs) Yes.
As for new toys, got all the Usagi pieces IW anted from the Playmates line and all the Wonder Woman figures from the movie release I wanted plus lots of Nanometal minifigs, Funko Pops and a handful of Marvel, DC and Star Wars pieces I liked.
So overall, there's more nopes than I would have wanted, but some significant yeses. Surgery and recovery refocused a lot of my efforts and changed up some of the goals. I ended up purging a lot more stuff than anticipated this year, and some new interests developed as the year progressed that influence reading and buying habits shifting attention away form some of the stated goals. Even with all that, I am content with what I accomplished and am already formulating my plan for next year.

Buying Goals- Buy no more than 200 books this year. I have no runs I'm looking to acquire right now, so this should be an easy goal. I'd imagine I'm mostly going to be picking up run fillers, and there aren't all that many of those that I should need. I have no burning desire to acquire anything right now, as I still have so much to read! I was totally on track with this until two weeks back when I stopped into my LCS and discovered they had entire long boxes full of nearly every Disney comic published in the 1980s thru 2000s for 80 cents to $3 a piece. I bought nearly every Don Rosa Disney book ever published and a few other gems as well, which came out to over 200 books in just one purchase. I don't regret it at all though, and I've already read about a fifth of them. I definitely wasn't planning on spending four months purchasing, prepping, and moving into a new house when I made these goals. In September and October combined, I read five comic books. But, more than that, I ended up tackling the full Bronze Age Avengers run and got well over a hundred issues in before the moving process began, so these other goals ended up falling by the wayside. Even though I didn't love reading the Avengers as much as some of you, I found it hard to stop because there were so many loose threads left hanging after each issue that I didn't want to forget. Well I ended up reading (not reviewing) Avengers, and I think that worked out better. As for the rest of the reviews, well, the move once again, plus the Photobucket debacle. I've spent days and days working on restoring images in threads and am still nowhere near done. That definitely slowed me down too. Sometimes I wonder how long any online content can be expected to survive when we depend upon external providers for their continued existence. If Imgur pulls a Photobucket this year, I don't think I have the heart to go back and restore my threads AGAIN. That would be the end. Anyway, not the year I expected it to be, but I still read a lot of great stuff and had fun making some great reviews. Here's to 2018, though I don't think I'll be making many resolutions this time

In 2017 I resolve to have as much fun as possible with comics and with my friends in fandom. It worked well in 2017, so I think I'll repeat the same resolution in 2018.

Probably an unrealistic goal considering my reading output the last few years, but I hope to read at least one comic book everyday in 2017. Another goal that I'm going to really try to complete is a weekly read through/review of the series Dark Horse Presents. I started a blog, Trevor Presents Dark Horse Presents, and will probably make it a review thread here. Complete fail! I read maybe 100 comics total all year, and completed one issue/week in that blog idea.
