Cody,
I understand exactly what you are saying here and it's not an easy thing to do and I have seen so many of them in my lifetime and safe to say this - I watch an average of 20 hours of TCM Programming a week for the past 10-15 years and you consider me a nuts watching all of these movies and then some. I've struggle with a lot of these characters and I have to think long hard before I post them here for you to enjoy my picks.
I have gotten the rest of Satellite Era and I will get them done over the next 2-3 days and then I will concertrate on the Villains and other Supporting Cast Members too. It will be another 2 weeks to make sure that I cover everything.
Then, I will do the Casting of Justice League International next, then Avengers, and anything else that I can come up with and I will do the Fantastic Four also.
Thanks for your comments and you do have a good perspective on things and I find that Jimmy Stewart would be an excellent choice for Hal Jordan ... but your comments about him is pretty much how I feel about him being Hal Jordan/Green Lantern.
I learned a lot from you today.

Since movies are a visual medium, we do tend to focus on actor's physically resembling the characters. Most casting suggestions I have ever read, in letters pages and message boards, are built around the physical. Every once in a while you get someone who approaches it thematically or from an emotional element and makes a suggestion that kind of stuns you, then seems perfect when you consider it. When they were casting the new Doctor Who, one of the names I saw thrown out was Peter Capaldi. I thought about his work and though, "Yeah, I can see that!" Anyone who could play a transgendered drag performer in a murder mystery to an angel trapped in a mysterious underworld, to a political spin-doctor could handle the oddball world of Dr. Who Back in the 70s, in those JLA pages, I used to go along with suggestions like Nick Nolte for Aquaman. Now I look at it and think, that would be the drunkest Aquaman ever. That would turn 48 Hrs into a strange team-up of a burnt-out Aquaman and a fast-talking, Black Manta, which would be an OUTRAGEOUS movie!

Well, it's a perfect storm because those characters were inspired by those actors. Jonah Hex was inspired by Sergio Leone's westerns, with Clint Eastwood, while Fred MacMurray was the visual inspiration for CC Beck's design of Captain Marvel. Or was my sarcasm meter broken and you were pointing to that?

He really did have better range than those who just know him from My Three Sons and his Disney films (see Double Indemnity and The Caine Mutiny). But he definitely could have pulled of The Big Red Cheese.

Hard to top Tom Tyler, for the Big Red Cheese, though Jackson Bostwick looked good in the role. Too bad Filmation couldn't give him anything to do.

I just wanted to let you know I enjoyed this thread immensely. I didn't contribute because growing up I was more of a TV kid instead of a movie kid. So I really don't know the classic movie actors that well. My parents were never big movie fans so I really didn't start going to the movies until I got my driver's license. Hope you do more of these!

Michael, Thanks, I will do Justice League International next on this thread, and then Avengers, Fantastic Four, and anything else and keep it all in one thread and I will update the Title on the 1st Post of this thread to remind everyone what I'm doing right now. This is far most easier to do then the 50 Characters because my mind just can't handle it anymore and that's why I'm doing this instead. Appreciate your comments and thanks for chiming in.

Casting of Aton, The Tiny TitanDirk Bogarde as the Atom To me, he looks like Ray Palmer to me and I consider him a dark horse candidate to play the Tiny Titan and this guy is a favorite of mine and because Atom has a Mask just like the Flash you don't have to worry about his face and all that. I like Dirk in movies and he has the capabilities to pull of a brainy Ray Palmer. He's a seasoned Hollywood Actor and I find him having a good track record playing a variety of characters and does a great job doing so. He is versatile and most importantly when he speaks he has an authority voice and that's why I consider him a perfect Ray Palmer in this role. I just felt that this movie needs a Dirk Bogarde to give him some exposure of his underrated talent that he is. It wasn't easy to find one to play the part of the Atom and I felt he would work well with Paul Newman as the Flash so that Dirk can be more a secondary hero when working with Newman. He does command a presence and that alone makes him an excellent pick to do the role of the Atom. This pick is one of the hardest one to do so far and I happen to be a fan of Dirk Bogarde and I wanted him to be in this movie and this is the only role that I can come up for him.

Casting of Firestorm, the Nuclear ManThis is very challenging to fill and I have to consider the part of three characters and one of them having to do both Ronnie and Firestorm and another one to do Stein. First of All - the Casting of Ronnie Raymond and FirestormFall on Robert Walker a favorite of mine ... This isn't an ideal pick to a lot of you but he has a kindred spirit and a gentle touch that's genuine and I liked him as an actor to play the part of both Raymond and Firestorm. His build is more like Firestorm and I felt that he would be a more a complimentary piece and I would have him to be more a background character and having very few lines to do. It's would perfect for Robert and you want a youthful presence on this team ... he and Eastwood (Snapper Carr) would be great together and I felt that Walker is needed on this team and having said that - you need to have a B list Actor in this situation and this role would do wonders for his career. Secondly - the Casting of Martin SteinFall on Glenn Ford - for Star Power Since that I'm having this movie done in the 1946/47 Timeframe to take advantage of the many starlets beauties including Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner, and the rest of them and I felt that looking at Glenn Ford in Gilda playing Johnny Farrell the right choice using makeup to make his hair grey wearing glasses and having the right build to play the part of Martin Stein and using special effect to have his face appears invisible but visible to the moviegoers would be perfect. Using the pictures of Stein in the Superfriends Cartoon Show and putting on the Glasses that Stein worn on that Cartoon Show - Ford is a dead ringer to play the part of Stein and he can do the Comic Book Version easily and as well the Cartoon Version as well too. Ford is excellent actor and has the intelligence to play the part of Martin Stein quite easily and one of the most respected actors in Hollywood History and one of my favorites as well. This is the best that I can come up with and it's was a very challenging task to select these two actors.

A little off-topic, I made a cast list for Doc Savage and his amazing crew a while back: Doc Savage - Joel McCrea Monk Mayfair - William Bendix Ham Brooks - William Powell Renny Renwick - Nat Pendleton Johnny Littlejohn - John Carradine Long Tom Roberts - George Chandler Pat Savage - Esther Williams Joel McCrea's alright but a little too foppish. Robert Ryan on the other hand.

Casting of Elongated ManNote: Someone here suggested him and I'm sticking to that story. Dick Van Dyke as Elongated ManI prefer this movie made in 1946 and having said that he would be 21 years of age back then and provide a much more comic relief and perfect for the role of Elongated Man. Case Closed. It's a no-brainer and a win for all fans of the Justice League of the America. This is the easiest of all cast selections!!!

Casting of the Red TornadoI watch a lot of Supergirl of lately and one of the surprising character(s) and looking at the picture and I noticed an eerie resemblance to Yul Brynner and that's why I casted Yul for that role. Yul Brynner is around 5'9" and I wished he was two inches taller for the role and the problem is fixed by him wearing boots with 2 inch heels. I prefer Yul Brynner for Red Tornado and he has STAR POWER written in him and I find him a very fascinating actor and his role in Magnificent Seven, King and I, Anna and the King, Solomon and Sheba, and the whole flock of hits that keeps on coming at you makes him a significant actor to play that role. I admired him from an acting viewpoint and that alone makes him very gifted and most importantly he has the flair to make it work. He does looks the part and I had a very difficult time thinking about who would play the Red Tornado; so having said that I felt that Red Tornado needs a seasoned actor and I only came up with Yul and Yul Brynner gets to play him. Just concertrate on the face of the Red Tornado in this picture above you - does it screams Yul Brynner - you've got convince yourself is that Yul on that face. The FACE alone made me think of Yul and Yul only. Case Closed ...
