The Comic Cover. It's the first thing you see and a large selling point, so much so, that comic companies usually try to put their best foot forward and have a top artist create it. Over the years really great artists have made their legend with covers and maybe even get you to buy a book that you never buy just because of the beauty of the cover. Well, who's your favorite? I pretty much veered away from artists that did the interiors for the same book as choices and went for the hired guns, but you can certainly choose anyone. Please feel free to post covers as examples.

John Buscema Jim Steranko The artists that md62 selected are the runner-ups along with Neal Adams and Adam Hughes too. (All four them are excellent) but I'm a fan of the two that I've voted here.

Classic: Joe Kubert.
Modern: Darwyn Cooke.
Ernie Chua/Chan got Young Slam to buy a lot of comics though.

I don’t ever remember buying a variant cover before Jim Lee’s Batman: Hush ones. (Okay, maybe when Dreamwave did Transformers, but I had a hard time choosing Autobot or Decepticon and so buying both was easier, though not necessarily because of the art.)
And definitely agree about Darwyn Cooke.

Joe Kubert and Darwyn Cooke would be at or near the top of my list as well. John Cassaday as well.

Of the list presented, Perez and Bolland.
Jim Aparo springs to mind immediately as well.

Yeah, probably Kubert. Nick Cardy is second.

Cardy
Edit: This is not a vote for his perfectly competent but dull 70s superhero covers.

I had to vote for John Romita (Snr) as ASM was my favourite comic as a child and his covers were just so iconic for me, they define the great ASM era.

No slouches on that list, but I would probably pick Joe Maneely, Al Feldstein and Alex Schomburg before any others. YMMV.

Nick Cardy and Gil Kane without a doubt, for their '60s work. Why? Take a look at the recent Gil Kane Cover Contest and standalone Gil Kane thread elsewhere in this forum for examples. And I've posted some Cardy Aquaman gems, below, but his Teen Titans and other covers are just as inventive and eye-catching. Others very high on my list: Bill Everett and Carl Burgos, for their 1950s covers

I changed my vote from Curt Swan to...
Bob Oksner
...but of course it is too hard to pick just one, too many great cover artists out there. And I am fickle, my tastes change often.

I went with Steranko and Garcia-Lopez but Romita Sr., Cardy, Aparo, and Ross were all strong contenders.
Cei-U! I summon the iconic imagery!

Can't believe he wasn't among the choices on the list or that anyone had picked him, but the first one that came to mind was John Byrne.
I'm really going to have to think on this one.
