Sad but true.. I guess that's why I watch more media produced in England and Japan than the US. This isn't to say that true "adult" content can't be successfully produced in the US, because we see things like The Wire or The Sopranos be both critical and (one more than the other) commercial successes. However, if it comes down to making something that is artistic and mature versus something that is "American adult" as I defined it, the latter will get made more often than not because it will likely make far more money because it appeals to more people. As H.L. Mencken once wrote "No one in this world, so far as I know — and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me — has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby”, which is more well-known by the paraphrased version as "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public."

When are American animators going to learn that gratituous gore and profanity doesn't make a show adult, it makes it seem more childish? The plot seems pretty good (and I don't really like Harley), but between that and the lack of the 'correct' voices (sorry, I need the Diniverse ones) would make it hard to watch for me. They're not going to learn that ever. Whereas in many parts of the world, the term "adult" refers to something that is thought-provoking while exploring mature themes and that may be a little more graphic than usual fare, in the US, "adult" means cursing, boobs, and blood and guts, usually in a completely mindless manner. Don't forget the farts and poop. Modern spoofs never do.

I actually think the Wire DOES fall into that category... I've tried to watch it a couple times and never got past the first couple episodes.

The Harley series looks like a less comics code approved version of the Conner/Palmiotti version.
That's the version of Harley I have come to love and think of far more than the BTAS version. Can't wait.

The second episode of Harley was even better.
Loved the inclusion of Kite-Man and all the Bane jokes were amazing.

So Harley Quinn was exactly what the trailer said it was gonna be. I dunno. It was fine. I'm not really the audience for this.

I just watched the first 6 episodes of the Harley Quinn series, and it was laugh out loud funny. I haven't laughed that hard at a (intentionally funny) DC project since Batman: Brave & the Bold. If I were writing a tagline/elevator pitch for it, I would say something like Tarantino does Batman Brave & the Bold with Harley as the star...
It's not a Bruce Timm animated DCAU series, but it's not trying to be.

So, I was fully prepared to go full on HBO Max but dropped it after a week as it didn't work with the main tv downstairs, Amazon Firestick (big fail on HBO).
Went back to DCU, and watched the first 2 episodes of Doom Patrol Season 2 tonight, wiping out any ambition I foolishly thought I might have towards starting some Continuing Education I need to get knocked out in the next month.
As I watched this excellent series again, I reflected on my favorite super groups and being a die-hard DC fan, I'm thinking Doom Patrol, and JSA, and Legion, and Freedom Fighters, yeah Justice League is pretty studly too, but if you ever even kind of liked the Doom Patrol, I cannot recommend this show enough.
Honestly, I can't realistically think of how they could make it any better.
10 / 10

Finally started watching Titans on Bluray and it's quite odd hearing the f word being dropped occasionally by these iconic superheroes I grew up with.

Titans Season 3 adds Tim Drake to the cast. They previously also announced Barbara Gordon well. The Tim Drake casting is especially funny, as the actor has a role in the Battison film:

I thought the second season of Titans overall was better than the first. It's still weird but the action was entertaining and for the most part I enjoyed the additional characters and the climactic finale.
