More or less just a "watering hole" of a thread devoted to books featuring a "gaggle of four-colored heroes and heroines pulverizing the pulp out of sour-pussed putzies"
The first big team up book that I ever really seriously got into was New Warriors. Until then, a lot of them never really spoke to me because I feel like a team-up book should be like a table top RPG. Where the writer is the Dungeon Master who knows everyone like the back of his or her hand. And Fabian has always been one of Marvel's overlooked gems to me.
I mean if the guy can tolerate Rob Liefield for months on end, he must be some kind of wonderful
My favorite character from the book is obviously Speedball, but I also have a deep love for Vance Astrovik and who he later goes on to become. Basically, if you wanna come right down to it, they're Blue Beetle and Booster Gold from the 80's/90's Justice League
To me, Excalibur is the only book out there that comes close to it. It's such a perfect fusion of X-Men and Avengers that it's a travesty that it isn't better collected. Started out just reading it for Nightcrawler, but then you get this huge melting pot culture clash of American/British-isms that it becomes incredibly hard to put down. Makes me sad that Steve Gerber or Bill Mantlo never got to take a whack at it because I'm dead certain that they would have had a ball with it

Interesting that you're starting in the 90's with the New Warriors and skipping the All Star teams of the JSA, JLA and Avengers. New Warriors seemed to follow the template of the Uncanny X-men reload of the late 70's with new characters added to known characters.

Also worth mentioning is Harbinger. Really, what can I say about this book? When I first started reading Valiant, this was a series that was almost always in my peripheral vision. I had always liked the concept of the X-Men, but not the mellow-dramatic story arcs or the weight of decades old branching paths for the characters. Harbinger was something more, something of a middle ground between New Mutants and Generation-X, and the collected trade paper back that came with issue #0 is one of my prized possessions for that very reason

Oh, I love JSA. didn't get into them until much, much later though. Same with All-Star Squadron
New Warriors isn't really X-Men because Night Thrasher is totally a Batman knock-off, but I wouldn't say that the comparison is invalid either
FYI, I'm also a 90's kid, so it makes some sense. I was born in 1989

I have a pretty decent run of NW myself. I enjoyed the book but haven't re-read it for years. The 90's has been unfairly picked on , in my humble opinion.

It's easier to mock something than to give a fair and honest opinion on something. Or at least that's my understanding and what I've learned from the boys at Red Letter Media

I was a huge NW fan when it was coming out.. it really managed to capture the 'family' vibe of the Wolfman/Perez Titans, but with deeper, more humanized characters. I really wish Marvel would let characters age and develop, because there was some really cool stuff going on there.

I'm not much of a "team guy", when it comes to comic book heroes. That said, I can enjoy them, but I'm old school - the Silver and Bronze Age Fantastic Four and Justice League of America are my two favourites. The Avengers too are interesting, and yet they've never really connected with me like FF or JLA.
A '90s superhero team that I've only read a couple of issues of, but who I'd love to read more of, is Clan Destine.

Not the adult characters but most of the Teen Titans are adults and the Marvel kids have grown up , for the most part.

Team books are the premium way to get your fix for the most heroes and villains without having to follow every single hero comic. The best bang for your buck in every way.
My big follows collecting in the day were Avengers, Fantastic Four, Defenders, Justice League and the Legion of Super-heroes. Always wanted to get Doom Patrol and Challengers of the Unknown but they were just before my time and I could only find the occasional used copies around in boxes. The annual JLA/JSA team-ups were pure gold for their time. Later on the New X-Men and Teen Titan's were huge of course. Enjoyed the retro fun of Roy Thomas at DC with All-Star Squadron. Really enjoyed the New Warriors and Thunderbolts.
These days it seems like a team is put together lumping together heroes as a trend: Justice League Dark, Demon Knights and others come to mind. Marvel seems to think EVERYONE should be an Avenger. I am really liking the new Terrific's and looking forward to seeing the return of the FF.

That's kind of the point though. RLM are "performance artists" much in the same way professional wrestlers are. And I think Plinkett was intentionally a gross overexaggeration because that's how die hard fans are. They can't tolerate change because they're too set in their ways and they're toxic in every sense of the word My experience with Star Wars has always been a muddled one. I grew up in an era that was so oversaturated by it that I never really had a chance to ponder a lot of the films' deeper meanings, it's why I gravitated towards Star Trek What I think is lost on a lot of people is that Nu-Trilogy and Special Editions is that they're literally George's battle with movie studios, namely Fox for control of the rights to the originals. I mean the man even went to court to try and stop Ted Turner from colorizing older movies. George might have lost his way, sure, but not as much as people think The newer films exist also on dualism, much like the force itself. Anakin did indeed bring balance to the force but at the cost of his soul. He never had chances like Luke did, he was a slave to Watto as was his mother. His ambitions to be better than everyone killed him, Ben didn't. He left him to rot in the primordial soup of a volcano to think about what he did. Hoping that he would become better enlightened in the next life Do I think the Nu-Trilogy is well written? No. But I do think that it's an incredibly good story that was told too poorly

I was thinking of asking if there was ever an all female team, then I remembered seeing Fem Force. Never had one I don't think but I did have one issue of a Phantom Lady type character Nightveil they published and it had Fem Force ads. Any others? I can't think of any. Wonder how a League Of All Manly Men would go over, so it's a bit of a silly question really.
