Spectre would be a top 3 favorite DC character for me! If I can ever find a copy of the Golden Age Spectre Archives I would be all over it, but it appears to be oop.

I remember reading about both Zor and Oom in All-Star Squadron. Oom was a hoot! I don't know why they've never developed a company-wide "event" around the villainy of Oom. They could call it "The Oomsday Initiative" or something. Oom would gather all the magic super-villains - especially from the Golden Age, like Zor and Wotan and Kulak (Remember Kulak, from All-star Squadron?) and the Wizard - And they would threaten to take over the world and they would be in every comics book, attacking the JLA, the Teen Titans, the Secret Six, Green Lantern, Animal Man, Bwana Beast, Congo Bill, and just EVERYBODY in the DCU for three months.
Plenty of opportunities to rape and/or kill dozens of beloved characters.
Where's my royalty check!?!?

I remember Kulak, Woton, Zor, Ian Karkull, and the Wizard(one of my favorite villains of all time). Oom was pretty awesome and I'm surprised as well that no-one has used him one of the great DC events over the years but please no rape stories involving Oom - YUCK!

Are you listening, DC?

Especially Zor! He's a delight. He's in two stories in the early days and I wish he would show up a little more often. Was Zor the evil magician in Morrison's Seven Soldiers?

Yeah, he appeared in the Zatanna mini-series, briefly masquerading as Zatanna's father. I thought that was a clever bit of meta-narrative by Morrison, having some fun with the fact that a lot of the magician-types of the Golden Age looked very similar to one another-- and to Mandrake the Magician, of course.

Number 42 - Elongated ManAlter Ego - Randolph William "Ralph" Dibny Team Affiliations - Justice Society of America and Doom Patrol Created by - John Broome Illustrated by - Carmine Infantino Abilities Superior deductive reasoning, Finite ability to stretch and shape his body, Enhanced agility, and olfactory sense, Greatly enhanced durability, Professional detective, and a Talented amateur chemist. Interesting Fact - Fans of the characters often referred to Ralph and Sue as the "Nick and Nora Charles of the super-hero set" (a reference to The Thin Man movies). Reason for Rank: The very novelty of the Elongated Man stories was that unlike most superheroes, including the Detective Comics Batman, Ralph Dibny solved mysteries, often challenging the reader to do the same. He didn't just use his extraordinary powers or gadgets to chase criminals, but recalled the problem-solving of a genre just that bit older than superheroes: the tale of mystery and detection. That's why I like Flash Comics when I was a young kid and I still have some of them today.

Number 41 - JadeAlter Ego - Jennifer-Lynn Hayden Team Affiliations - Outsiders, Infinity, Inc., Justice League of America, and Blood Pack. Created by - Roy Thomas Illustrated by - Jerry Ordway Abilities Via Starheart: Mystical-based green energy constructs based from imagination, Flight Control over plants. Via Power rings: Fueled by the emotional spectrum of willpower or the power of death, both rings are able to create solid light constructs limited to imagination and will. Flight Energy absorption and Both objects require periods of recharge. Interesting Fact - She has been romantically linked with Hank King (Brainwave) and with Green Lantern Kyle Rayner. She was the first female Green Lantern from Earth. Reason for Rank: Known affectionately as "Jennie" or "Jen", she is the daughter of Alan Scott, the Golden Age Green Lantern. Her mother is Rose Canton, the Golden Age villain known as Thorn. Jennie-Lynn has a twin brother, Todd James Rice, who is the superhero Obsidian. This is one of the main reason that I liked about her that she's the daughter of Alan Scott one of greatest heroes that I know of.

The only Elongated Man stories I've read would be his 1960s Flash appearances & Detective Comic backup tales plus his 1970s JLA adventures. Thats what he was, a good co-star and backup feature. Plastic Man is my king of stretchability especially done by Jack Cole. And I'll always associate Ralph as being on that roof, stretching his ear down the chimney to listen to the thieves inside, when one of them notices it and says "An Ear In The Fireplace..It Must Be The Elongated Man". How DC handled him and Sue Dibny a few years back was sinful

I only know Jade from reading Infinity Inc. Wherever I read the Starheart part of her life did not resonate with me at all. She was fine in the Infinity Inc but her relationship with her father did not seem close at all. I think it took many issues after her introduction before their was an extended scene between the two. At least thats how I remember it

Number 40 - FuryAlter Ego - Hippolyta "Lyta" Trevor-Hall Team Affiliations - Infinity, Inc. Created by - Roy Thomas, Danette Thomas Illustrated by - Ross Andru Abilities Superhuman strength, speed and endurance, Enhanced senses and durability, Animal Empathy, Regenerative healing factor, Invulnerability to magic Interesting Fact - Originally Fury was Hippolyta "Lyta" Trevor, the daughter of the Golden Age Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor; as a result of this lineage, Lyta had all her mother's powers. Lyta later adopted the identity of the Fury, named after the Furies of mythology, and was one of the founding members of Infinity Inc. Reason for Rank: The main reason why I like her is her abilities to heal, quite resourceful, and most of all she shown some leadership qualities in her team - Infinity Inc.; of which I sadly loss most of the Comic Books that my dear Dad thrown out.

Number 39 - Jesse QuickAlter Ego - Jesse Belle Chambers Team Affiliations - Justice Society of America, Teen Titans, The Conglomerate, and the Justice League of America. Created by - Len Strazewski Illustrated by - Mike Parobeck Abilities Superhuman speed and strength (whether or not she can still fly, or use her mother's subsonic bursts, is unknown) Interesting Fact - Chambers, who first used the superhero name Jesse Quick and later Liberty Belle, is the daughter of Golden Age heroes Johnny Quick and Liberty Belle. She inherited both of her parents' powers. Reason for Rank: Quite resourceful and one of the leaders on the Teen Titans and most of all she's is the daughter of two of the pioneers of DC Comics - Johnny Quick (Father) and Liberty Belle (Mother) and having said that - although Johnny Quick and Liberty Belle is not on my list of 50 of my favorite Superheroes; it's sad that I'm unable to list them here.

Fury was OK on the Infinity Inc title, and like most of them ruined forever by Crisis. I'm sure I read stories with Jesse Quick but don't recall anything about her. Guess she didn't leave an impression on me. I've read a bunch of her father's tales which were very formulaic. Stick with the Flash's extended family

On to the next group
#44 SPECTRE
Would he make my top 50? He'd be right on the cut line. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if I rated him #44 as well. The Ostrander series in the 1990s was really good.
#43 SANDMAN
Would he make my Top 50? No. Honestly, the guy scared me as a kid with that gasmask. These days I'm fine with the costume, but still have little interest in the character.
#42 ELONGATED MAN
Would he make my Top 50? No. I was not happy that he got to be in the JLA instead of Plastic Man. He's not bad in his own short adventures or as Barry Allen's sidekick.
#41 JADE #40 FURY #39 JESSE QUICK
Would they make my Top 50? No. I think only three super heroines would make my Top 50 and these three aren't one of them. I've enjoyed Jesse in all of her adventures, I liked Jade a bit more Pre Kyle and Fury is fine in her Pre-Crisis role.
