Enjoyable Marvel movie as expected. Decent enough conversion of combining aspects of Mar-Vell and Ms. Marvel mythos into a singular integrated story. Would have liked for more Mar-Vell but since he is such a marginal fan favorite from the 70's I had no expectation of much of that concept so it was nice seeing the Veers story being partially derived from it. Glad to see the different Kree military "uniforms" and the slight insights into the Kree. REALLY liked and enjoyed the Skrull shape-shifting and Talos and Jude made for a good Yon-Rogg.
Movie did well to include past/future MU connections of characters. That is what makes Marvel so much fun in a sense,, the connectivity and sense of anybody can meet/interact with anybody in the MU. Lots to think on and future possibilities for a 2nd or 3rd movie. I wasn't expecting a Guardians or Black Panther level of a movie so I was able to simply sit back and enjoy. Will look forward to seeing it again when the DVD hits.

The film made a ton of money!
It's not that Disney's financial situation interests me overmuch, but I'm very happy that the online incel trolls who kept posting fake negative reviews failed so miserably in their sabotage attempt.

They’ve already decided that Disney paid theaters to give away tickets and juice the numbers. They really are sad pathetic little boys.

I will echo brutalis’ sentiments.
I love Mar-Vel and Ms Marvel personally. I think that, while cheesy andnot the strongest writing, that Mar-Vels origin story in the comics is interesting and unique. I like what Starlin did later on, I liked that Carol eventually gained the powers and became Ms. Marvel. It was nothing groundbreaking, just fun comics.
And the movie did all of that. Unique take on the origin story, solid acting, interesting story that tied it all in very nicely with the MCU. Samuel L Jackson was a star, Larson was great and Mendelsohn was excellent as Talos. There was the perfect balance of humour too with Goose which was great. I don’t think it tried to do to much, to me it was a perfect fit. General audiences may be wanting more (lots of people have mentioned wanting a bigger villain, more action) but I disagree. This film took some creative liberties and I thoroughly enjoyed their take. Oh and top it all off with one of the best Stan Lee cameos and I really cannot complain.
Definitely options moving forward with this character. I am excited to see where they go with Captain Marvel:)

Oh, who else had a trailer for Shazam! before the movie? Got to explain somethings to a very confused colleague when I mentioned that he used to be called Captain Marvel.

So the reviews on this film, while still positive overall, are decidedly more mixed than some of the MCU's more definitive hits. I'm curious how much being the lead-in to Avengers: Endgame is inflating the box office. For myself, I'm not a huge Carol Danvers fan, so this movie would ordinarily fall into the same bucket as Ant-Man, GotG, and Thor -- something I can wait to see on video -- if it wasn't for the fact that I feel like I need to see it before Endgame comes out.

I saw CAPTAIN MARVEL tonight - really liked it. I don't mind the changes to the source material and thought the effects and story were solid. My wife usually doesn't like superhero movies but I think I'm gonna talk her into seeing it - I wanna see it again. Goose!

Diary opened up and I saw it today on my own - there were a whole 8 of us in a mid-morning screening. Overall, I liked it - better than I was expecting. The structure of the film was completely different than it appeared from the trailers - as ever Marvel did a great job of bait and switch in the trailers. Was it great - no, I don't think so, but it was a decent mid-level Marvel film - and thankfully Larsen's acting was a lot better than it looked in the trailers. Unusually, there was very little overt humour in this one (that worked, anyway), and the overall structure was a bit different as well - did a good job of being an origin story without being a typical origin story. Of the bonus scences, the first was OK without being essential, but the end of credits one wasn't really worth waiting through the interminable, incredibly long, credits for. Of the changes to the origin, I have no objection - it would have been far too complex to go with the original (or the godawful new retcon origin from the recent comics), and I think, along with one other change, that it fixes a problematic element {Spoiler}so that Carol is neither dependent on a man for her powers, not has to overcome Yon-Rogg to be worthy at the end - makes the independent self-made woman theme to be much clearer Nice tribute to Stan at the start Solid 6.5 or so, I would say A couple of other vaguely-related comments on the whole experience: - Shazam trailer #2 was played beforehand - I still think it looks awful
- A new X-Men:Phoenix trailer also - a longer version of trailer #2 - looks worse with every new trailer, IMHO - About 20 videogame trailers! - I was the 2nd one in the cinema, about 5 minutes before the trailers started - 1 other guy there, and we would have been adjacent seats in a completely empty cinema! I left a space, becauae it would have been weird to sit next to him, and I knew from booking that most seats would be free. Anyway he sat there through all the trailers and the first 5-10 minutes of the film and then left! Weird...

Met up with some friends from church this morning and after having breakfast together, our two families went to the 11:00 AM showing at our local theater. They have a couple of daughters just a little older than ours (9th and 8th grades, compared to 7th and 5th), so they were the prime target audience for this film. This is the first Marvel movie my girls have seen in the theater (they've seen 90% of the others at home), so they were really excited. It was fine for what it was, which was to introduce Captain Marvel into the MCU ahead of Endgame. It was nothing groundbreaking (except for it being the first female-led MCU movie), but it didn't really need to be. I've seen better, and I've seen worse. Solid middle-of-the-pack MCU film. As @simongarth wrote, it was an effective origin story. My wife had a lot of questions after the film about it, but she caught enough of it to not be completely lost (she watches the MCU films with us, but she doesn't immerse herself in them like I and our daughters do). I thought the interaction between Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson was well-done, my wife and I loved the 90's soundtrack (and I loved seeing Brie Larson in the Nine Inch Nails t-shirt, as they were one of my favorite bands back then), and I want that cat, who was just too adorable. {Couple of Specific Thoughts}I felt they did a fairly subtle job at the female-empowerment angle, with some mentions of how Carol and Maria weren't allowed to fly in USAF combat yet, and while they sort of touched on Carol's father not letting her do the same things as the boys in her memories, they didn't make him out to be a monster, just an overprotective father. The comics portray him much worse, basically telling her she isn't capable of doing what boys/men can do, which would have been the wrong tone to take, both because Marvel can't really risk offending its core constituency but also because fathers who take their daughters to this movie don't want yet another media outlet making them out to be villains or idiots (like many Disney TV shows do unfortunately). Some of us are overprotective, not because we're evil or sexist, but because we love our daughters and want to keep them safe as best we can, and when the time is right, we'll let them fly on their own.
The second thing I didn't like was the lack of explanation as to why Yon-Rogg wanted to continue to the decimation of the Skrulls. I'm guessing it tied into his belief in Ronan's crusade (which nicely tied into Ronan's behavior in GotG I), seeing as one of Ronan's lieutenants was on Yon-Rogg's squad in this film, but there is really nothing that says WHY he wants to hunt all of the Skrulls down, other than because they didn't submit to Kree rule. It made him a rather one-dimensional (or even zero-dimensional) villain.

It finishes in the top 10 MCU movies for me personally because I like the character a lot and I like how they adapted her origin. I thought the comedy was natural and perfect. I also thought Samuel L Jackson was great. Didnt blow my mind like some of the MCU movies did with over the top action but a solid film. I am wondering what the future holds too for this character and future films centered around her.
I will agree that the villain was nothing special. Maybe that is what bored or upset some people who seem to have despised the film. Upon reflecting, Jude Law was typical Jude Law...bland and blah. They could have done more with that character for sure. I understand why some people who just want action action action, villains villains villains might find this one slower and less exciting than some Marvel flicks.

Finally saw it and it was OK. I was underwhelmed by it. I found myself looking at my watch during the movie.

I saw it yesterday and for me, it was ok. Brie Larson was better than I expected, but still kind of blah. I enjoyed the humor and the early fight scene where she's on the train. md62 I kept wanting to take a look at my phone to see what time it was too, haha!

It was better than I first thought it would be, again I've never been that big of a fan of Carol. Larson was okay but her scenes with Jackson were probably the best for me. I quite liked Mendelsohn though, his attitude and demeanor was refreshing. My biggest nitpick though: {Spoiler: Click to show} What exactly is her power(s)? I don't recall anyone, even her, defining them much if at all. She absorbed the energy from that engine device, yeah, but what did it do her? I was puzzled over that.
