Number 18 - The Scarlet WitchAlter Ego - Wanda Maximoff Team Affiliations - Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Avengers, Defenders, and numerous other teams as well. Created by - Stan Lee Illustrated by - Jack Kirby AbilitiesProbability manipulation, Reality warping, and Chaos Magic Interesting Fact - The Scarlet Witch debuted, together with her brother, Quicksilver, as a part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in X-Men #4 (March 1964) Interesting Fact 2 - Married The Vision at Number 20. Reason for Rank: One of the most powerful sorceress/mystic characters in Marvel Comics History and having said that she was called upon to cause chaos in various forms. Later on, her powers is becoming more and more cosmic and that alone makes her a formidable foe. Just for Kicks: I would love to see a Scarlet Witch and Zatanna Team Up - these two ladies would be perfect together.

Number 17 - Sub-MarinerAlter Ego - Namor McKenzie Team Affiliations - The Invaders, Avengers, Defenders, and X-Men Created by - Bill Everett Illustrated by - Various Artists AbilitiesAquatic adaptation, Superhuman strength, speed, agility, and reflexes Mild invulnerability, Flight via the tiny wings on his ankles, Longevity Marine Telepathy, Aquatic life mimicry Interesting Fact - Sub-Mariner first appeared publicly in Marvel Comics #1 (Oct. 1939) – the first comic book from Timely Comics, the 1930s–1940s predecessor of the company Marvel Comics. During that period, known to historians and fans as the Golden Age of Comic Books, the Sub-Mariner was one of Timely's top three characters, along with Captain America and the original Human Torch. Reason for Rank: One of my favorite members of the Invaders (see image below) it was this issue that defined my love for Sub-Mariner - he's resourceful, savvy, most of all one of the mainstays of Marvel Comics for many years to come.

Number 16 - DaredevilAlter Ego - Matthew Michael "Matt" Murdock Team Affiliations - S.H.I.E.L.D., Defenders, and New Avengers. Created by - Stan Lee Illustrated by - Bill Everett AbilitiesRadar sense, Superhuman senses. Excellent athlete Skilled detective, tracker, and interrogation expert, Expert marksman Master acrobat, martial artist, and gymnast Interesting Fact - This law firm was established after Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson graduated, thanks to Foggy's dad money. Karen Page was quickly hired by Nelson as a secretary. The firm has sometimes been (mistakenly?) depicted as "Murdock and Nelson" . Nelson and Murdock became high profile attorneys with numerous cases and clients. Nelson eventually used his fame to successfully run and be elected as the District Attorney of New York City. Interesting Fact 2 - Partnerships Black Widow and Elektra Reason for Rank: One of the better street-wise superheroes around and most efficient at what he does best. Great Street Fighter, Skilled, and Savvy.

Number 15 - Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell)Alter Ego - Mar-Vell (alias Dr. Walter Lawson) Team Affiliations - Defenders, and Avengers. Created by - Stan Lee Illustrated by - Gene Colan AbilitiesSuperhuman strength, Flight Cosmic Awareness, Solar energy absorption & projection Wields Nega-Bands Interesting Fact - An added plot feature was the introduction of sidekick Rick Jones. Jones and Marvel "shared molecules" allowing only one to exist in the real world at a time. Thomas stated that the intent of the change was to create a more science-fiction oriented update that was reminiscent of Fawcett Comics's original Captain Marvel, who similarly had an alter-ego that could not co-exist with the superhero. Reason for Rank: When Mar-Vell gained the Nega-Bands, which convert Mar-Vell's psionic energy into greater strength, durability, and the power to fly at faster-than-light speeds and traverse vast interstellar and intergalactic distances and enable him to exist unprotected in deep outer space without having to breathe. When, Marvel Comics made this change; it's made him more spectacular than ever before and made him more cosmic than ever before and that alone earned his rights to be called Protector of the Universe and that's why I like this character so much.

Number 14 - Ant-Man (Henry Pym)Alter Ego - Henry Pym Team Affiliations - The Avengers Created by - Stan Lee, Larry Lieber Illustrated by - Jack Kirby AbilitiesBiophysicist and Security Operations Center expert Dr. Henry 'Hank' Pym decided to become a superhero after discovering a chemical substance (Pym Particles) that would allow the user to alter his size. Armed with a helmet that could control ants, Pym would shrink down to the size of an insect to become the mystery-solving Ant-Man. He soon shared his discovery with his girlfriend, Janet Van Dyne, who became his crime-fighting partner as the Wasp. The duo would become founding members of the Avengers, fighting recurring enemies such as the mad scientist Egghead, the mutant Whirlwind, and other super-villains along the way. Interesting Fact - Henry Pym created Ultron. Reason for Rank: One of the most intelligent member of the Avengers and one of the most gifted as well. His unique ability to shrink down to the size of an insect further enhance his crime-fighting ways. I like his approach to battle and that alone makes him an worthy opponent more ways than one. Seasoned, Tough, and Resourceful.

A nice big batch of new rankings to get into!
#26 Cyclops - The eldest Summers brother is my highest-ranking member of the X-Men, coming in at #16.
#25 Jean Grey - We weren't too far off on this one, as the lovely Ms. Grey is #28 on my list. She really grew over the years, from the standard "damsel in distress" so prevalent in the Kirby/Lee books to the most powerful member of the X-Men.
#24 Hawkeye - I go a little higher with Clint, putting him at #15 in my Top 50.
#23 Invisible Woman - Sue is a Top 10 for me, getting all the way to #8 on my list. Much like Jean Grey, she developed from the one the rest of the FF had to protect and rescue to the one with arguably the most power among the four. There have been a few missteps along the way (Malice, the Civil War breakup), but Sue is definitely the heart of the FF.
#22 Iceman - Bobby comes in at #32 on my list. He's a mainstay of the MU, having been an original member of the X-Men, Champions, and X-Factor, but he really never embraced his power to the fullest, leaving him a bit of a disappointment.
#21 She-Hulk - the lovely Ms. Walters doesn't make my Top 50, but she's definitely in the first group just outside the list, no lower than #60.
#20 Silver Surfer - not on my list, because I don't understand the character or his appeal.
#19 Vision - little higher on my list, taking the spot at #13.
#18 Scarlet Witch - Wanda is on my list at #24. She might be higher if her powers were better defined and understood instead of them being a deus ex machine in every situation due to their utter randomness.
#17 Sub-Mariner - Namor is a little lower on my list, coming in at #20. Sometimes he's a hero, sometimes he's a villain, sometimes he just is who he is, and all of those fascinate me.
#16 Daredevil - Mr. Murdock is at #12 on my list. I wasn't always a fan, but over the years, I've come to appreciate and enjoy the character much more, particularly due to the Bendis/Maleev run on the book.
#15 Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) - just misses my Top 10, ranking at #11.
#14 Ant-Man (Hank Pym) - All identities of Hank Pym come in at #29 on my list, as I did not separate them.

Interesting Fact 2 - Jennifer back to the legal profession in a more full-time capacity, when she was asked to practice law in the Superhuman Law division of the New York firm of Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg & Holliway (GLK&H). This offer is dependent upon Jennifer remaining human while she worked for the firm. . That's an insanely cool name for a comic- book law firm, but I admit I don't know who Holliway is. My first thought was letterer Ray Holloway, who sometimes used the pseudonym "Sherigail".

Number 13 - Giant ManAlter Ego - Henry Pym Team Affiliations - The Avengers Family, Defenders, Created by - Stan Lee, Larry Lieber Illustrated by - Jack Kirby AbilitiesGenius-level intellect, Size-shifting from nearly microscopic to ~100 feet gigantic (both at extremes), Ability to transfer his size-shifting ability to other beings and objects. Superhuman strength, stamina, and mass in giant form as Giant-Man Facts about Ability: Pym is eventually able to change size at will, and mentally generate Pym particles to change the sizes of other living beings or inanimate objects. Pym retains his normal strength when "ant" size, and possesses greatly increased strength and stamina when in "giant" form, courtesy of the increased mass. Pym’s costume is synthetic stretch fabric composed of unstable molecules and automatically adapts to his shifting sizes. Interesting Fact - Henry Pym created Ultron. Reason for Rank: As Giant Man, one of the most dynamic of all Avengers and most Awe-Inspiring - I just in awe reading about a man that can grown to 100 feet tall. Man, this guy is sensational. Intelligence, Savvy, and very Resourceful too. Size Comparison of the Avengers - One of my favorite pictures.

Number 12 - Professor XAlter Ego - Charles Francis Xavier Team Affiliations - X-Men Created by - Stan Lee Illustrated by - Jack Kirby AbilitiesGenius-level intellect, Telepathy, Empathy, Mind reading and control Memory alteration and erasure, Mental bolts, Psionic blasts, Induced paralysis Illusion casting, Great tactician and strategist, Astral projection, and Eidetic memory Interesting Fact - Charles Xavier is the founder of the X-Men and runs a private school that shelters and trains mutants (people who were born with superhuman abilities). He fights for peace and equality between humans and mutants in a world where anti-mutant bigotry is widespread. He, too, is a mutant, a very powerful telepath who can read and control minds. Reason for Rank: Most Gifted Mutant in history and most respected individual with a heart of gold. He's worthy to be ranked Number 12 in my Countdown. Patrick Stewart was perfection when he portrayed Professor X in the X-Men Movie Franchise. Patrick Stewart as Professor X.
