The Cardigans were a great band back in their early days.

I can't place the song, but it sounds like it must be referring to {Spoiler: Click to show} Elric
So I will guess that it's {Spoiler: Click to show} Hawkwind, since I know Moorcock wrote some stuff for them. Close, but wrong band. That writer created a song for this band, about the same subject; but, did not write this particular song.

Elric is correct, but the song name is "Black Blade," Blue Oyter Cult's ode to Stormbringer, the sword of Elric.
Moorcock returned the favor by co-writing the song "Veteran of the Psychic Wars," which is about the Eternal Champion; but was shoehorned into Heavy Metal, instead of the other songs BOC wrote, which were featured on A Fire of Unknown Origin, including "Vengeance (The Pact)"
Here's an easy one....
"Clark Kent, now there was a real gent He would not be caught sittin' around in no jungle scape Dumb as an ape, doin' nothing"

OK, time to do some cleanup to keep the thread moving forward:
mrp gave us "Superman" by Bob Schneider, a singer-songwriter based in Austin, TX. Looks like he has a lot of wry material, sometimes with a nerdy bent e.g. "Batman" and "Han Solo" and "Superpowers." Sounds like an interesting artist.
codystarbuck offered another lyric from "Superman's Song" by Crash Test Dummies, from which a different lyric was offered earlier in the thread.
OK, next one:
I was saying this to Batman... Oh, he was here the other day. Maybe you know him? He's a big deal, But I don't think of him that way. He's just a friend, someone I trust, Someone who won't kill me.

That one is doubly or triply nerd since it's Jonathan Coulton's "You Wouldn't Know," the theme song from the video game Portal 2.
OK, next one is more mainstream:
Racing on the thunder And rising with the heat It's gonna take a Superman To sweep me off my feet

"Holding Out for a Hero", Bonnie Tyler sang, written by Jim Steinman and Dean Pitchford, produced by Steinman (who wrote and produced Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell, as is obvious when you compare that album and Bonnie Tyler's Faster Than The Speed of Night)
Used in the Footloose soundtrack, opening theme for the tv series Cover-Up, lip-synched by Cate Blanchet in Bandits, sung by Jennifer Saunders in Shrek 2.
How is that for nerdy?

OK, next song: YO! It's the green machine Gonna rock the town without being seen Have you ever seen a turtle Get Down? Slammin and Jammin to the new swing sound

Yep, it's "Ninja Rap" by Vanilla Ice. See, I knew that would be a softball! Next one:
Is he a dot? Or is he a speck? When he's underwater, does he get wet? Or does the water get him instead? Nobody knows

Next up... If you try to knock me, you'll get mocked I'll stir fry you in my wok Your knees'll start shaking and your fingers pop Like a pinch on the neck from Mr. Spock -M Since it's been over a day (and I had no chance of guessing it), I Googled it and found it's Intergalactic by the Beastly Boys. Here's another Superman reference that I don't think has come up: To be fly as a mother To supply all of my heart's demands Suit and tie 'cause undercover He's gonna save my life like Superman How did I miss this thread??? Love me some Spin Doctors... Jimmy Olsen's Blues was my favorite song at the time, and of course give the name to the album (Pocket full of Kryptonite)... they were gone too soon. Intergalactic goes ALL over the place nerd-y wise... it references RIc Flair Styling and Profiling as well. I got at least one to post you guys haven't yet that is another of my faves next time there's a lull

Yeah, I bought that after seeing their video (or their song set to an animated video) of "Istanbul, Not Constantinople" on MTV's Liquid Television. Then, it and "Particle Man" turned up in segments on Tiny Toons, when they were spoofing MTV. The one from Liquid Television..
