Marc Hempl Tarzan? That I have to see! Yeah. That's interesting! I really liked his stuff on Gregory and Sandman, but I don't think I've ever read any other comics he drew. His other major books would be Mars from First! and Breathtaker from DC, but I've always liked his inking over certain artists. Two that come to mind immediately are his work over Guiseppe Cammicoli's art on Brian Vaughn's Swamp Thing and his work over Sonny Liew's pencils on My Faith in Frankie.

Matt Wagner en John K. Snyder III did a great Mid-Nite mini-series, which has been collected even though it's from a time when not that many series got. (But keep in mind that I'm a big Matt Wagner fan and love almost anything he does.) That was the Pietr Cross version of Dr. Mid-Nite though wasn't it? Not the Charles McNider version..or am I misremembering? -M Yup: Doctor Midnite 3. I think it was his origin, actually.

Interested in more Creeper stuff after reading some of the Ditko issues...are there any newer series with this character that are worth picking up??

It's technically a different character, but I like the Vertigo Beware the Creeper! mini as the best Creeper series. It's set in 1920s Paris against a backdrop of surrealists and socialites, and I feel it really nails the spirit of the character if the not the superhero trappings. It also features early art from Cliff Chiang (and I'd argue it's actually his best work, although all his work his great.) There is a recent tpb of the mini, but the issues shouldn't be too hard to fine at a reduced price.

What's anyone's thoughts on Earth X? I now have the first five issues 0-4 after getting #3 out of a $1 box and was thinking about pursuing getting the rest of the series if I find it trolling $1 boxes, as seems to be my way now. Though I'd not be object to more than a $1. I just realized I never read the ones I've owned.
Edit: Or Girls by The Luna Brothers? Just read the first issue reprint I picked up back at FCBD. Starts off pretty good with a nice cliffhanger.

A lot of the ideas in it have bled into continuity proper since it was released, so it might seem a bit clichéd now. Maybe not, it's been 15 years or so since I read it

I guess in some ways it's the epitome of a fan-written comic, but I'd argue the sequels suffer more from that than Earth X itself. JP Leon's art is brilliant as always.

I'm seeing more info about the upcoming SUICIDE SQUAD movie, plus I saw the animated movie (Assault on Arkham or something like that). So I think I'd like to check them out, having never read any of the books. Which series should I read--and do all of them "reboot" the concept, as though the other had never happened?

I am far from a Suicide Squad expert. I know the 60's team had Rick Flagg, the father, as the squad leader, and his son (also name Rick Flagg) was the leader of the team that came about in the 80's mini series, Legends.
I would start with the 80's Suicide Squad. Issues (outside number 1 right now because of the film) are pretty cheap and I like it a lot. I cannot speak to the newer stuff though. It looks flashy and intriguing with cool characters a plenty but I have heard the stories are so so.

They're reprinting the Ostrander SS soon, apparently. Vol 1. was just solicited (technically a new edition of vol. 1; they tried collecting Ostrander's run a few years back but the new 52 derailed it).

Ostrander and Kim Yale's run is the way to go. By far the best Suicide Squad material. I'd also recommend Gail Simone's Secret Six series has it has the same spirit and features Deadshot.

In adding a few remaining Her/Kismet issues to my wish list I see she is in two issues of The Evolutionary War. I will get the two issues (according to Marvel's database) even without context. But is the whole story worth reading? Seems like a semi-cosmic tale.

But is the whole story worth reading? Seems like a semi-cosmic tale. It's a mixed bag like all annual events. I'd say the best annuals were X-Factor (Apocalypse vs the High Evolutionary... in space!), Silver Surfer (the resurrection of the Super Skrull), WCA (the return of Bill Foster as Giant Man), Uncanny X-Men (vs Terminus to restore the Savage Land), and The Avengers (featuring the return of Hercules from his convalescence on Olympus). The saga of the High Evolutionary backups were pretty interesting, especially if you didn't know a lot about the character, which I didn't at the time. Some of that stuff has featured pretty heavily in the backstories of the Scarlet Witch, Jessica Drew, and Mr Sinister.
