The TVA was also used in Dan Slott's She-Hulk run... IIRC, they tried to say Hawkeye was a variant after one of the times he came back from the dead, and She-Hulk was his defense attorney to get him to not get purged. It's interesting setting up something that seems like it's going to be a big deal that really isn't in the comics.
Definitely loving the dynamic between Wilson and Hiddleston... not sure exactly where they're going with the show yet, but so far it's been good. I'm assuming, like Wandavision, this is going to tie into the Doctor Strange movie.

Definitely loving the dynamic between Wilson and Hiddleston... not sure exactly where they're going with the show yet, I think you just summed up the episode beautifully. I have a lot of thoughts but, frankly, there just isn't enough to go on yet. One thing I did notice: A bizarre amount of attention was given to Moebius placing the mug on his superior's table and her noting that all the previous rings had been left by him. The camera really zones in on that mug...twice. Perhaps later disruptions to the time flow will make this bit of trivia important: are there rings on the table in this reality; ergo has Moebius been here?
Clearly his superior is withholding important info from him, but I won't attempt to wager where that's going yet.

It's funny, NPR had a review up for the debut episodes and described the TVA as "much beloved.." and my first reaction was, "By whom?" I hadn't even heard of it, since I wasn't a big Thor reader; but, have never heard of a time travel gimmick that was "much beloved," other than the George Pal movie, by Baby Boomer sci-fi fans (I like it, but think it isn't nearly as good or interesting as Time After Time). When I looked it up I saw Simonson's Thor brought up and figured the writer must have skimmed internet content and skipped somewhere between "Beloved Walt Simonson Thor run, where the TVA was introduced..." It wasn't Glen Weldon, who usually handled comic book-related material, and knows his stuff.
Haven't watched it yet, but will catch up after clearing off some other stuff, first.

I am enjoying the show. I'm glad they found a way to bring Loki back without just undoing his death, but also still giving him some of the character development he got in the MCU movies. I am curious to see where this goes. Like others, I just don't have enough information to draw many conclusions yet except I am starting to see how they get into the multiverse stuff in the new Dr. Strange and Spidey movies.
Folks. Can we just take a moment to appreciate that there is a mainstream, culturally-relevant TV show starring a comic book character whose actor is a massively-popular heartthrob? Like this is it, people. We made it. Our stuff is mainstream top of the culture now. This nerd never imagined we would be here. I am so happy with all of this. There is so much comic book content that some people are sick of it!
It makes you shed a nerdy tear.

There is so much comic book content that some people are sick of it! It makes you shed a nerdy tear. I'll be there when literally any of my favorite stuff goes mainstream. I can't tell you how many folks ask me stuff like, "You're a nerd! What's your favorite Loki comic," and after I tell them I never liked Loki until Tom Hiddleston, they look at me as if I'm even more useless than a non-comic nerd. It's weirdly even more alienating than when comics weren't cool. I'm still waiting for someone to pick my brain about the Batman Family, the X-Men, the Spectre, or Barks' ducks. The closest I've gotten to seeing my stuff on the big screen so far was Dr. Strange.

Yeah, I never cared much about the Avengers until the MCU. I came up on the X-Men, so those first couple movies were fun, but man, did they drop the ball after. I'm hopeful there will be more good X-Men content now that they are under the Disney umbrella with Marvel now. I hope the DC stuff gets out from under Warner Brothers at some point. It seems pretty clear they don't know how to handle it.

Duck Tales was pretty mainstream in the early-mid 90s! The last revival didn't do as well, but I'd definitely say kids of the correct age know about Uncle Scrooge.

Yes, but I missed my chance there, not becoming a Ducks fan until two decades after! The new revival didn't seem to cause the same mainstream surge. Certainly, no one picked my brain about those comics.

Oh, I forgot to include in my amazed statement that not only is the apex of pop culture a TV show about a B-list obscure comic book character based on an old villain, but it's a show about a multiverse and time travel.

Watched episode four last night. Definitely the best episode yet.
I love the different tone the three Disney+ shows have had. Though I do wish they'd dip in to something other than superheroes.

Well they did mention vampires for the first time in the MCU in this week's episode, so maybe Marvel Horror is coming (there is a Blade project in the works and a whole slate of Midnight Sons projects have been rumored). But super-heroes are their bread and butter, and while they may mash up other genres and styles with super-heroes to mix it up, I just don't see Marvel Studio doing anything that super-heroes aren't at the heart of it. -M
