2021 Classic Comics New Year's Resolutions Thanks as always to Icctrombone for starting this tradition! It's that time once again, folks! If you did any 2020 New Years Resolutions, let us know how they turned out and then make some new ones for the new year here! Buying Goals- Incredible Hulk #318-376. It's been ages since I've tracked down a long run to read (my "To Read" pile is already so high!), but I'm very interested in finally reading the "Joe Fixit" stories and the Peter David stuff that follows. I already have and have read #377, and figured it was a good stopping point (once I've acquired and read the rest of the stretch) before determining if I want to keep going forward. Reading Goals I'm serious about working towards- Read at least two non-comic related novels - Finish re-reading Corto Maltese from beginning to end Completed 5/12/21- Work towards finishing my Avengers run (#231-300, plus annuals remaining) - Begin reading Defenders #1-60 - Begin re-reading Usagi Yojimbo from the beginning - Re-read some Will Eisner GNs - Read at least 20 issues of Claremont's X-Men w/ Amber Reading Goals I want to get to before I die (maybe this year. Who knows?)- Ditko's Spider-Man - Grimjack - Astro City - Sandman Mystery Theatre - Dreadstar - Re-read Gaiman's Sandman from beginning to end - Get caught up with The Cerebus Reading SocietyEssential Reviewing Goals- Finish Batman Family: 1975-1990- Give serious time and focus to Superman in the Post-Crisis Era. Completed 5/23/21- Give serious time and focus to Writer's Spotlight: Doug Moench. Completed 11/4/21- Write at least five reviews for New Teen Titans and Beyond. Completed 12/31/21- Write at least five reviews for: The Complete Batman: 1979-2011 Completed 4/9/21- Write at least three reviews for Justice League in the Post-Crisis Era. Completed 12/30/21 I'll get to it if I get to it- Finish Atari Force (10 issues left) - Planet of the Apes from the Beginning (revamp the OP index and catch up on the two or three comics I've not yet reviewed) - Nick Fury in the Silver Age (I haven't touched this one in YEARS)

shaxper , I've been waiting all week for this thread to pop up, as it's one of my favorite things to do on either New Year's Eve or New Year's Day. Buying GoalsThe only floppie I am actively searching in 2021 is Conan the Barbarian #14. The first Epic Collection has issues #1-13, and I have #15-115 in floppies, so I want to complete the circuit and then get down to reading. I play to buy 1 TPB of either Saga of the Swamp Thing (probably just the remaining three Alan Moore collections) or Hellblazer (I have a handful of these already) or a Marvel Epic Collection each month in 2021. Going to try to limit the $1/$2 bin books to maybe some Batman and Detective, but they have to be from the same general time period as the ones I already have. Not looking to get the whole run, just build around the stories I already own. Reading GoalsAiming for another 1,000 this year, which I just barely made in 2020 (spent WAY TOO MUCH time playing video games in Q4 and only crossed the threshold on December 30). Specific books I want to read are: Amazing Spider-Man from #53 - 123, which is where my Epic Collections end. They will eventually publish the next edition, which will cover #124 - #140, and then I can read straight through to #400. Conan the Barbarian, #1 - 115 - after I find a copy of #14 Saga of the Swamp Thing - the Alan Moore issues Hellblazer - going to be working on these from Delano issues as they come in Wonder Woman - I have the first four George Perez TPBs that I want to get through Daredevil - I plan to pick this back up from issue #65 and work through it as I did with Iron Man this year Reviewing GoalsAnother year went by without a post in my Captain America review thread. I'm hoping to revive this in 2021, but it's going to depend a lot on how busy my new job is. That's it. Modest goals for 2021, as I feel I can achieve them and have a sense of accomplishment, rather than shooting for the moon and being disappointed.

Reading :
Read Badger from 13-70 to complete a read through of that run
Read Nexus 1-80
Read the entire Captain Victory run.
Last Year I acquired many Thor issues and have from 115-502, I want to read from 115-200 the year
Purchases:
Fill in the Tarzan runs from DC and Marvel that I started to collect last year
Pick up some Femforce issues that I lack.
I need 9 issues to complete the Wally West Flash run ( 1987)
I'm toying with the idea of completing the Richard Dragon Kung Fu fighter run , I only have 4 of the 33 issue run.
Finish getting the rest of the Walt Simonson Orion series. I need 6 to finish the 25 issue run.
Try to buy the rest of Deathstroke v.1
Complete the Marvel Epic Groo series , I need 3 issues to have the entire 120 issue run.

My main goal continues to be to read more comics from my unread pile than I buy. This has been a challenge. It makes me reluctant to make buying goals, because it prevents the pile from getting smaller.
Some other reading goals: - Giant Green Lantern binge read. Ideally, I want to read the whole Silver/Bronze Age run of his intro issues in Showcase, GL #1-224, the back-up stories in Flash during the temporary cancellation, Annuals, & the Tales of the GL Corps mini-series. At the least, I want to read from the beginning through the Flash back-ups this year. - Read Essential Captain America vol. 7 - Read at least one more Essential Thor volume - Read at least 2 Golden Age DC Archives (or the Golden Age Batman Omnibus I have) - Binge read Perez's Wonder Woman through at least #21 (which is the unbroken run I own) - Read some Defenders - Read at least part of the 3 Black Widow TPBs I bought - Binge read some Legion of Super-Heroes (any group of consecutive issues/stories, not necessarily from the beginning) - Between reducing those unread piles, re-read some X-Men/X-Factor/New Mutants
Buying goals: - Because reading more than I buy is a goal, I don't mind missing out on any of these goals - Buy less prominent X-Men related books that I may have missed from the 1970s through early 1990s. I try to be an X-books completist (allowing TPBs in lieu of original issues) from inception through the end of Claremont's run in 1991. But I know I'm missing a few pieces, like a Marvel Fanfare story or two. - Think about whether I want to replace some black & white Essential Daredevil or Essential Avengers with color Epic Collection or Omnibus reprints - Close some holes in my Cap run in the 200s between the Essentials and Death of Red Skull TPB - Buy more Peter David Hulk - Buy the Phantom Stranger Omnibus. If I decide to do this, it would be a leap of faith, as I haven't read much with the character. - Buy more of the Perez Wonder Woman run if I like the issue I read this year enough

My goals for 21 aren't that lofty. I have a few key things I'd like to do:
1. Comic Binding Project: I started this mid- 2020 to bind runs together that will never see the light of a hardcover of runs I truly enjoy. Are they great and legendary runs? Not in particular. These are runs I love that will sit on my bookshelves instead of lounging in a longbox. I have 7 volumes out there right, just need to finish up my cover designs and then work on another 20 volumes hopefully this year.
2. CGC My Collection: I want to keep the books in the conditions I got them since I first purchased them many years ago. I have 5 books done year (5 are still at CGC) but want to do hopefully 50 this year. Preservation over key issues, mainly slabbing books that are important to me.
3. Buying Goals: I don't really have any. I'm not truly hunting down issues but there's about 15 Amazing Spider-Man books I would like CGC that were part of my youth.
4 Miscellaneous Comic Stuff: Own a couple more pieces of original art.
Aside from that, 21 will be quiet. I'm not really buying that much as I unloaded over 3000 comics and 300 trades this year. I'm keeping the essentials of my collection.

Resolutions? We don't need no steenking resolutions!?!
Continue reading comic books not good enough for you all? Ok, more specifically finish up reading my Elquest, Usagi Yojimbo and Judge Dredd trades. Start on reading my Conan Omnibus (have 1-4). Read my ROM Spaceknight and Micronauts complete runs. Read my Marvel Tarzan complete run. Continue reading/commenting on my Valerian trades.
I am NOT a reviewer but maybe start a post on comments of my reading Corto Maltese so Shaxper has somewhere else to post. Maybe do the same for Elfquest and Ms. Tree if settle into New Year.
Continue hunting and searching for inexpensive missing issues in my DC war books. Do same for my Marvel Westerns. Do same for Jughead comics.
No TOY purchases except for my Hot Wheels or the very occasional MUST HAVE figure.
Lord knows what else?

Buying Goals: Fill up gaps in Ripley's Believe it or Not, Golden Age Adventure Comics, Silver Age Jughead, X-9: Secret Agent Corrigan Volume 3 and the Creepy Archives volumes 4 and 5.
Reading Goals: Since the comics on the "Buying" list were never a part of my collection (with the exception of the issues of Creepy collected in the omnibus), they jump to the top of my reading list.

Look for "first wave" (68-75) undergrounds that I don;t have.
Find some Dell Flying Saucers and Gold Key UFO comics for my grandson. Since he likes those, try him out on some Ripley's and BK Tales of Mystery.
Organize my comics.
Organize my books.
This will help me set up on office/studio space (there's a chance that I can opt to largely work from home even after covid).

I didn't do this last year, because my goals stay pretty constant, but I'm feeling like 2021 is a turning point My long standing goal of 'read all the stuff I have' is getting close to it's end.... I'm down to 1/2 a milk crate of bargain bin/grab bag buys from years past., and a short box of partial runs I might need to add to for proper reading. My TPB pile is pretty low as well, and I've completed a few of the showcase volumes I have.. still several left, but a dent has been made. So my 2021 goals: -FINISH the unread pile! I've been making good progress by not buying things until I read a few from the pile, then finish the last things I've bought.. it's working really well. I'm going to get there! - Continue converting to Plastic short boxes... I bought 5 to test, and I love them.. this goal is more about money than anything, but I've definitely getting more soon. Collecting goals: -Get rid of at least 1 box worth of odd and ends I'll never touch again. -keep only things I want to keep when getting grab bags/dollar bin stuff -Continue buying 80s Avengers comics, and Silver Age Hawkman -Find a good deal or two on the few Iron Man Silver Age books I need.

My only goal is to organize my collection to a point that I can start strategically selling off some stuff. I have an 8x10 storage unit that looks like a comics shop blew up in it, and it is my greatest shame...

Buying Goals - use Unlimited and DCU as an alternative to buying everything I want to read, as opposed to just an alternative to going and getting a book off the shelf - maintain at least a1:1 read to purchased ratio
Realistic Reading Goals - finally finish a lengthy run (fifty or more issues) I haven't read before (most likely Sandman) - read 365 issues (doesn't sound like much, but my attention span seems to be shot) - dive into a new writer (maybe Moench) in an attempt to focus more on writers than characters, so I can hopefully better gauge what might interest me/what makes me like the books I lile
Unrealistic Reading Goals - read Doom Patrol from the beginning - read Hulk from the beginning

Unrealistic Reading Goals- read Doom Patrol from the beginning - read Hulk from the beginning It's interesting that those are two of your goals, because those have been the titles of my biggest binge read the past two years. In 2019, over several months I read Incredible Hulk from around #182 to #354. Then from early July 2020 to early October 2020, I read Doom Patrol from the beginning to the end of the Morrison run. (I didn't read many other comics in the midst of my Doom Patrol binge, but I actually did read Essential Marvel Horror vol. 1 during part of that binge.) I don't have much Doom Patrol beyond that point except a few issues of the Giffen series. But based on the pace I was going, and the number of issues on the various volumes of DP (like 80 to 90 more issues by count), it seems conceivable I could have finished by now if I continued. So it could be doable 6 project.

I've actually read the first twenty two issues of Doom Patrol (including the MGA issues), which was actually what finally made Silver Age books click for me, and the first year or so of Morrison's run. With Hulk, I've read some short runs here and there (including #1-6 multiple times), but I don't think I've ever read more than maybe twenty consecutive issues (which would've been Immortal Hulk).
I'm just terrible at finishing things, because my excitement/desire to read whatever new book catches my interest at the time far outweighs my desire to finish what I'm reading. But I really do love both, so we'll see if this is the year.
