Already? Man, August just flew by! Anyhoo...
Amazing Spider-Man #42 Atom #27 Avengers #33 Daredevil #21 Fantastic Four #56 Green Lantern #48 Hawkman #16 Sgt. Fury #35 Strange Tales #150 Tales of Suspense #83 Tales to Astonish #85 Thor #133 X-Men #25
The above are my usual must-haves. At 12 cents each, my running total is $1.56. This leaves me six cents shy of being able to pick up the Marvel annuals but I have a dime left from last month so I can afford the following after all:
Amazing Spider-Man Annual #3 Fantastic Four Annual #4
Still, when I look at all the cool stuff I had to leave on the shelf--Brave and Bold, Detective, Magnus, Popeye-- I must renew my pleas for an increase in my allowance!
Cei-U! Just another dollar, pater, please!?
Hmmm, well, you've been keeping up with your studies, and the lawn looks pretty good, so we'll see what we can do for next month. Plus, things are getting kinda tight for me, too!

Let's see what we can do.
Amazing Spider-Man #42
Amazing Spider-Man Annual #3
Avengers #33
Daredevil #21
Doc Savage #1 (no way I'd ever be able to pass this up)
Dynamo #2
Fantastic Four #56
Fantastic Four Annual #4
Mad #106
Strange Tales #150
Tales of Suspense #83
Thor #133
That's a penny over, but I'm betting I can walk the sidewalks and find one. And I had to skip Thunder Agents. Those Marvel Annuals are budget killers. Luckily DC had zippo this month.
And no Warren mags this month. Whew!

Oh man, I was so wrapped up in those Marvel annuals and such that I totally missed the Doc Savage! I may have to give up my House of Mystery #162 and get that instead. Based on the title of the story, it even looks like it's based on one of the actual Doc Savage books, unless I miss my guess. Around the World Under the Sea #1 looks interesting too but I'll pass on that one.

I wanted that Gold Key Doc Savage issue for years and years. I was so excited when I finally acquired a copy... until I opened it and discovered the art was by *shudder* Jack Sparling. That may well have been the biggest (comics-related) disappointment of my entire life.
Cei-U! I summon the gigantic bummer!

Unless I looked inside before buying. And, as we know, this ain't no liberry.

I'm a little late here, glad you guys left a few copies on the newsstand!
Action #342 for “The Day Supergirl Became an Amazon” Adventure #349 for the Legion ASM #42 – I love this issue! I first read it as a kid in the 70's in a Fireside collection. ASM Annual #3 – Hulk and Avengers, totally epic. Avengers #33 – I just like this era I want to buy Blackhawk but I just can't, oh poor Lady Blackhawk. FF #56 and Annual #4 – monthly regular at this point Metal Men #22 – I want to know more about “The Sizzler”, I don't remember this one! We used to go to the Sizzer steakhouse restaurant all the time when I was a kid, great memories of that. Which has nothing to do with this. World's Finest #181 – Got a soft spot for those 80 page giant reprint issues, this looks great!
$1.47, the rest goes in the piggy bank.

I'll buy these in August 1966: Adventure #349 DC, 12 cents Avengers #33 Fake-out! My favorite character Wanda's on the cover--but she doesn't appear in this issue (guess Kirby didn't get the memo so he didn't know Wanda was on a leave of absence). Oh well...Black Widow's in the story so that's some consolation. Marvel, 12 cents Betty and Veronica #130 Who wears short shorts? Veronica, Betty, and Archie...that's who Archie, 12 cents Batman #185 I never could resist those DC 80-page Giants! DC, 25 cents Fantastic Four #56 Marvel, 12 cents Fantastic Four Annual #4 Marvel, 25 cents Lois Lane #69 DC, 12 cents Metal Men #22 Beautiful Andru-Esposito cover. DC, 12 cents Wendy Witch World #18 I couldn't resist those Harvey Giants either! And Wendy's my favorite Harvey character, so this is a must-buy. Harvey, 25 cents Wonder Woman #165 DC, 12 cents Woody Woodpecker #93 Ah, my favorite funny animal cartoon character. Gold Key, 12 cents World's Finest Comics #161 I told you I couldn't resist those DC 80-page Giants! DC, 25 cents 8 @ 12 cents each = 96 cents 4 count 'em 4 25-cents Giants! An even buck Total: $1.96 With the remaining four cents I'll splurge on some penny candy:

I bought a very beat-up copy of Batman #185 about 1990. It was missing the back cover, and it only cost about a dollar. Very good investment! This is one of the comic books that helped me to understand late 1950s and early 1960s Batman a lot better, and I realized that the stories are very entertaining and interesting, and even if they are stupid, it didn’t matter that much that they are stupid. I used to think that “Robin Dies at Dawn” was about the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. Years later, after reading it a few times and reading a lot more Silver Age DC, I realized that it’s a great classic of the comic book genre and that I shouldn’t worry that it’s just about the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.
