1. Comic Binding Project Most of you know I've been binding comic runs that are too weird or never got a shot to have a trade. These are books that I like and wanted to keep in my collection (before liquidating in 2020) but wanted to pull out so I can read. Last year I did 20 volumes of minis, short runs (13 on the shelf, and 7 currently at the bindery). I'm close to finishing off what I wan to get done. I have about 9 more books to go. Just need to get scans of some issues and that's it. I might scour my collection again and maybe do a little bit more. 2. CGC Preservation Getting books I bought that mean a lot to me over the 'hot book' on the market. I'm not one of the people that is getting Amazing Spider-Man 300 done, like the other 33,000 done books. These are either small press books, undergrounds, weird stuff that's never been graded or funky stuff that is part of my collection. I have one golden age Disney book at the graders (about to come home) and then I'll send another batch in. I know some people here aren't keen on the slabs; I understand. I have either doubles or the books have been reprinted in some fashion. With the exception of my Dave Stevens books, whose covers I consider works of art and stand alone. 3. Comic Presentation I'd like to work on a project where I can display some of these CGC books. I don't know if I want to build something on my wall or build shelves. Ideally I'd like to order a comic spinner rack but those are crazy expensive! Holy spit.. I never knew. It's an option. Let's see how we did.... 1. Comic Binding Project- Almost done. I have about another 5 more to go and I'm finished. 2. CGC Preservation- Picking my undergrounds, small press stuff and the occasional Silver Age book. 3. Comic Presentation- Still trying to find a spinner rack or magazine rack. Crazy stupid expensive.

Let's go ahead and see how things finished up:
Buying Goals - Only bought 31 "classic" comics this year in total. Feel pretty good about that. Jonah Hex #91 to complete the series - Got this back in January. Secret Society of Super-Villains #1 and 14 to complete the series - Got both of these, one in January and the other in April Cheap (less than $3/each) Batman, Detective, and Weird Western Tales featuring Scalphunter issues - Bought four $1 issues of Batman and one of Detective, picked up the last seventeen issues of Weird Western Tales that I was hunting for an average of $4 each, and got nine issues of Captain Marvel (first Marvel series) for about $4 each as well Maybe some more Hellblazer TPBs, if I can find them used - Picked up one early in the year, a couple mid-year, and three more on December 28 from Half-Price Books, using a 20%-off coupon.
Reading Goals Read more. Hit or miss with this one. I read a lot of new TPBs that I'd picked up, including Priest's run on Black Panther, Aaron's run on Thor, Planet Hulk, Monster of Frankenstein, but not much in the way of making it through the floppie backlog. It's so much easier to grab a collected edition off the bookshelf than it is to go through the effort of opening bags, pulling comics out, then putting them back in.
Collection Goals Need to finally start thinning out the boxes. Going to focus on things I know I am never going to read again (I'm looking at a lot of 1990s Marvel here) and just get rid of things. Give them away, sell them, let my daughters have them; doesn't matter, need to clear them out. Got some plans in my head, just haven't translated that into action yet. Actually moved a good number of series from the cabinets into the short boxes that I store elsewhere, now just need to move them out of the house somehow. Something for 2024.

I couldn't have possibly known last December 31st that I was 27 days away from my world being turned on its head. It's been the hardest year of my life, and that's inevitably affected how I've met my goals here. I also couldn't have known that Icctrombone and I would be restarting the CCF Podcast at the time, and basically all the time that I would have spent writing comic reviews since that podcast has begun has gone towards editing those episodes instead. No regrets at all, but I'm positive one of my goals for 2024 will be to find a better balance between the podcast and my reviews. Anyway... Buying Goals- At this point, I'm always excited to find a new run to savor, as well as obscure and forgotten classics. Nothing specific in mind, but as long as I read more than I buy and I find room for it all, I'm happy. Completed! I actually bought a ton this year. Probably close to 200 comics. An LCS ran some fantastic sales, and I took full advantage! Got a lot of run fillers and even more really unusual kitsch titles--50s Dell, promotional giveaways, old humor comics no one's ever heard of before--the finding was definitely just as fun as the reading! Somewhat completed. Didn't sell anything this year. The market just isn't there anymore. I may still try to sell some comics this summer, just to clear space and make a little cash, but it's hardly the necessity that it was in 2021 and 2022. Nope. I read novels for school (I'm a high school teacher), but I never got around to reading anything for pleasure. Nope. This really took a hit after everything turned upside down for us at the end of January. We've managed to read 7 books together this year, which averages to one every two months. Most disappointing goal to have fallen short of. Nope. I re-read portions of several favorite runs (largely for the podcast), but no, I never got around to re-reading even one for pleasure. Somewhat completed. I DID finish Simonson's Thor (and, honestly, I still don't see what all the fuss was about), and I've at least finally started Byrne's Fantastic Four. Also bought Amber a tpb of Sandman Mystery Theatre for Hanukkah in the hopes that we can read it together in 2024. Completed! Oh yeah. I tore through most of them pretty quickly! Still have a small handful left. Nope.Completed! I only did 52 reviews, but I also ended up launching, promoting, and editing a podcast, so i think the 6.5 episodes completed thus far outweigh the eight reviews I'm coming up short. I'm most proud of completing The Batman Family and Beyond: 1975-1990, which went on to win a Jamie Award!
