Published 60 years ago today: On any given day, Daredevil might be my favourite superhero. He’s the character I revisit the most (probably). I particularly love his 70s tales. This is my favourite Daredevil comic: What’s your favourite Daredevil comic? Also, pick 4 characters you’d like to see him fight: a Marvel hero, a Marvel villain, a DC hero, and a DC villain. A battle against The Vision might be a mismatch, but I’d like to see what strategy Daredevil might come up with against a powerful android. Has he ever battled the Red Skull (one on one)? I imagine Red Skull might not have battled anyone quite like the Man Without Fear. Daredevil vs. Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) would be fun - and visually good. And I’d definitely pay to read Daredevil vs. Gorilla Grodd.

Whenever I see 'DD' on his chest I think Duran Duran.
Happy Birthday Matt, you've been one of my Top 3 Marvel characters (male) since I was 4 feet tall.

Happy birthday Daredevil! He's one of my favourite Marvel heroes, ranking alongside Spider-Man and Namor. I'm a big fan of the 60s Daredevil stories. While Miller's work on the character was groundbreaking, and some subsequent writer runs that followed his pattern were also great, I've felt that the push towards making him a psychologically tormented character has resulted in the character stagnating a bit, and that an attempt to recapture some of the more lighthearted, swash-buckling tone of the early years would benefit the character (I thought Mark Waid did a pretty good job of this on his run). My favourite Daredevil story is this Lee-Colan two-parter, #33-34. Seeing him fight a villain like The Beetle, who isn't usually associated with him but is a good match for him power-level wise, is a lot of fun, and the story also has the novelty of taking place at the Montreal 67 Expo. For Marvel heroes, I think Shang-Chi would be a really cool match with some great fight scene possibilities, and it would be interesting to see how Shang-Chi would react to Daredevil's radar sense. For Marvel villains, I think seeing him take on a mystical threat like Nightmare would be cool, and there's a lot of interesting stuff you could do with how Daredevil perceives the Dream Dimension with his senses. For DC heroes, I think the Creeper would be a great matchup visually. And seeing him match wits with the Riddler would be great.

Despite his blindness, he does often have a view to a kill being plotted by some wild boys, plus as an attorney he's notorious for being hungry like the wolf defending his clients in court. Happy 60th anniversary, Hornhead!

Daredevil is one of my favorites as well. Have you read the Mark Waid run, driver? Totally up your alley. I first got into Daredevil during the Ann Nocenti/John Romita Jr. run and discovered Miller's stuff bit by bit. The Miller/JRJR Man Without Fear limited series was a bit deal to me when it came out. My favorite issue is when he had a beer with the Devil. I wish we'd had a Daredevil/Batman crossover at some point considering Batman crossed over with just about every IP under the sun. Daredevil vs. Grendel would be cool as well. And Daredevil and the Ninja Turtles.

I love this whole era, the Gene Colan issues from about #20 up to about #47. I would have a lot of trouble singling one out as a favorite though. Still, I think my favorite single issue of Daredevil would be from the Wally Wood era, either #6 or #7.

I loved all the Gene Colan issues. Especially when inked by Palmer and Syd Shores. I particularly liked the Death's Head story, with Karen's father. And fuck you Kevin Smith for killing her.

I like Daredevil quite a bit and have a lot of issues in my collection, albeit as TPB and Hardcover reprints, not originals. I really like the very earliest issues a lot -- in particular, Daredevil #1 is a cracking debut, with gorgeous Bill Everett artwork. However, after a strong 8 or so issues, I find the series soon descends into fairly mediocre Silver Age fare. There's some good stuff in there, for sure, but it's hit and miss and tonally all over the place. I also find that the good and bad issues of the '60s run are usually clumped together: so, you'll be reading a really good issue or three, and then suddenly it'll go off in some goofy direction and become a real slog to read, before hitting its stride again 3 or 4 issues later. And of course, the absolute nadir of the Silver Age stuff is those issues with the Godawful "Mike Murdoch, twin brother" storyline. That said, the quality starts to really pick up consistantly in the early '70s, with Black Widow billed alongside ol' Hornhead. There are some real gems in those issues (as there are in the '60s too, but less consistantly IMHO). Really though, when it comes to Daredevil, you can't beat the Frank Miller stuff. That really is the best Daredevil has to offer, as far as I'm concerned. EDIT: Not sure what my favourite issue of Daredevil overall is; I like the very first issue a lot, as I say, and there are lots of great issues from the Miller era. What I can say for sure is that my favourite Daredevil cover is #216, by David Mazzucchelli...

I wish we'd had a Daredevil/Batman crossover at some point considering Batman crossed over with just about every IP under the sun. Marvel published Daredevil/Batman by Daniel Chichester and Scott McDaniel in 1997, and DC published Batman/Daredevil by Alan Grant and Eduardo Barreto in 2000.

To me, the best Daredevil is still Miller's first run, which I think should be more correctly called the (McKenzie)/Miller/Janson run. However, my single favorite issue of Daredevil is #192, the one immediately following Miller's departure from the book... Written by the amazing Alan Brennert, it's a perfect cap or epilogue to the Miller et al. run, which in an understated sort of way almost outclasses everything that came before. Makes me wish that Brennert had had a run on that title.

Yes, commond, i did read Waid’s run. I’ve enjoyed some of the modern runs, such as Charles Soule’s stories.

Happy birthday, Daredevil! I've always had a warm spot in my heart for the Man Without Fear since first encountering him in Amazing Spider-Man #16. My non-electronic collection consists of the first Masterworks (collecting #1-11), plus #12-60 and Annuals 1 and 4 in floppies. In digital format, I have #1-235 and Annuals 1-4. My favorite issue is #6 with the Fellowship of Fear. My favorite run is the original Miller run, with DD and the Widow in San Francisco a close second. I'd enjoy seeing ol' Hornhead team up with The Shroud and/or Dr. Mid-Nite so they can compare notes on super-heroing without sight. As for villains, it'd be interesting to see him square off with Man-Bat, who also has a radar sense. I'm not sure what Marvel villain to pick. Maybe the original Vulture... or have they already met? If so, then possibly Jack O'Lantern.
Cei-U! I summon the party favors!

I recall a DD/Vulture encounter in the 90s, but the issue number escapes me. Him versus Man-Bat’s radar sense would be intriguing.
I do wonder why there has never been an attempt to do a DD cartoon. I don’t even recall him appearing in, say, the 90s Spider-Man cartoon. I’m sure he must have guest starred in at least one cartoon. If he didn’t, perhaps, prior to the MCU (and Affleck’s film), they didn’t think his profile was high enough.

Oh, yeah. Forgot to answer the other questions. So my picks for who DD should fight are... Marvel hero: Nightcrawler, but then - in typical fashion - they make nice and go off to fight the *real* bad guy Marvel villain: I agree with Cei-U! about the Vulture; in fact, Spidey villains also seem tailor-made for DD as well (best example: Kingpin). So I'd also like to see him take on, say, the Shocker, Jigsaw, Madam Belladonna, Gibbon, Kangaroo, Grizzly... DC hero: Katana DC villain: Deathstroke (and, yes, to me he's a villain, not an anti-hero or whatnot, end of story)
