Let us pause a moment to remember the canines lost in SCPA actions... Mammoth Mutt, who was replaced by his gf, Mammoth Miss... And the heroic Beam Beagle...

Seadog was the canine first mate aboard Cap'n Crunch's ship. (The other crew members, all kids, were Alfie, Brunhilda, Carlyle, and Dave.)
Cei-U! Why do I remember this s#!t??

The dog that chased his owner off the cover of his own comic book: Gotta love that there was a time superheroes were so passe that one of them had their own title co-opted by a friggin' PET.

Korgi looks pretty good. The preview at Amazon is full of happy puppy dogs, and I'm liking the art. It's a black-and-white, wordless fantasy/fairy-tale-ish book. I'll probably pick this one up some day, when I've got nothing better to spend $30 on.

I’ve retained a lot of trivia over the decades, but I don’t think that even I ever knew the names of Cap’n Crunch’s crewmembers.

]Personally, Spider-Man or Captain America having a dog would have been fun.
Matt Murdock having a seeing eye dog to complete the look would have been fun too.

Conan befriended a big dog in SSoC#145, just as he was taking car of a little orphan girl. We had the nucleus of a nice little family right there! The pooch was named Dread, but he sacrificed his life for his new master in this very issue. A dog would have made a good companion for a few consecutive issues of Conan the barbarian!

It would need to be a Wolfhound, if you ask me. Or else, 50% Pointer ("There it is, there it is") 50% Boxer (JAB, PUNCH, *huff*huff) 50% Setter (or Irish Setter, if he has a clay pipe) 50% Spitz (Ptooie!) 50% Doberman Pincher (Pinch, pinch) but mostly Labrador Retriever..... ...in case his master needs a Labrador retrieved! (Warning-recorded off a tv screen)

I like this Toth piece. This was part of a Superman pin-up Gallery book.

Ah, the Golden Age... Kaye McKay was also the name of Bob Newhart's on-screen wife on the short-lived 90s sitcom "Bob" where he played the creator of a comic-book character named "Mad-Dog" (which seems extra appropriate given the title of this thread) The name of the TV character probably had nothing to do with the above comic strip, but that's the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this image!
