Ah, the Golden Age... Kaye McKay was also the name of Bob Newhart's on-screen wife on the short-lived 90s sitcom "Bob" where he played the creator of a comic-book character named "Mad-Dog" (which seems extra appropriate given the title of this thread) The name of the TV character probably had nothing to do with the above comic strip, but that's the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this image! Yeah, I was thinking about that show, after Newhart passed away. They had one episode where he attended an awards dinner, which featured Jack Kirby, Sergio Aragones, Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri, Art Thibert and cartoonist Mell Lazarus (Miss Peach and Momma). Mark Evanier was a writer on the show and probably arranged it.

I was only about 17, but I recognized a lot of the names, though that may have been the first time I'd actually seen what the creators looked like. Marvel put out a 6 issue Mad-Dog comic to tie in with the show. It was done in flip-book format, with one side being retro 50s or 60s classic standalone stories and the other being a 6-part serialized gritty, 90s style story that looked like it could have been a reject from Marvel Comics Presents.

Take a look at the signature - that's George Wilson, who later did gorgeous painted covers for Dell & Gold Key.
