I just remembered that I am a member of www.unstablemolecules.com as well, the messageboard associated with the X-Men fan site uncannyxmen.net/ - I joned a year and a half ago when I started dating my current boyfriend, who is one of the founders of the site. If anyone wants to discuss current mutant books in detail, it's a smallish community but very knowledgeable - and not quite as "special" as much of the CBR X-Boards crowd. Not the guy formerly known as Peter Luzifer, right?

My pull list is down Captain America, Iron Man, Moon Knight, and All-New X-Factor, and the last one is close to being chopped (which I hate to say about a PAD book, but I'm just not feeling it).
I have been buying New Avengers, Secret Avengers, and Uncanny X-Men from this little LCS in downtown Pittsburgh that puts books that are 3-4 months old in their back room for $1 each. I may stop getting New Avengers, as it has barely progressed from the first issue, and Secret Avengers was cancelled (rebooted?) already, so once I have up through the last issue I'm done with that.
I trade wait Fables because I got a great deal on the first 8 TPBs on eBay and wanted to have a complete collection of a book in that format.
Other than those, I invest my comic dollars in the back issue bins.

I nearest comic shop I know of is 150 miles away. There may or may not be one in Pocatello still. So I haven't purchased a new comic in over 15 years. I do read a fair amount of new/newish stuff in trades. Atomic Robo is pure joy. I'll try pretty much anything by Brubaker or Rucka. If it's generally well reviewed I'll give it a shot.

We mailed a bit back on xmbb.net and through him I joined the staff of early uncannyxmen.net (did the recaps on all of Peter David's X-Factor, X-Men 2099, Agent X and some other titles I can't really remember right now). Then I finished college and was without internet for quite a bit so I lost contact.

When he mentioned co-creating the site on our first date, I vaguely remembered reading up on the Summers family tree there once. He briefly posted on CBR as Cedic, but only in the cover contests. Next time you come to Cologne, we should have dinner or something!

Other than those, I invest my comic dollars in the back issue bins. Yeah, I mean...I dropped pretty much all my Marvel stuff. I don't know what it is, but lately it all feels so bloated and...pointless? I started reading XMen books 23 years ago, and in the last year or two I've just stopped. There are just so, soooo many titles, and most feel pointless. It would be one thing if each book had unique characters the others didn't or a unique focus, but there is so much overlap and lack of any coherent focus. If there was at least a flagship title or two where I could follow the main arc I would probably still be on board, but as far as I can tell, there just isn't one. Plus, AvX was just atrocious. I don't know, Marvel seems more interested in short term profit lately, and I'm just not feeling the enjoyment there. I do still get any new Punisher book, and I considered PAD's All New X Factor but it seemed to fall right into the mess of the rest of the X lines. I was sad to see his previous incarnation go, but alas. I also trade-wait Fables. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't read yet, but I feel like it hasn't found its new focus after it addressed the major premise. I like the characters, but it seems like it's treading water, and I just read it's wrapping up soon, too. I'm going to need some new (or undiscovered classics) to read soon!

I still have a fairly sizable pull list, but I'm drawn more to crime or sci-fi nowadays. With some exceptions here & there (Hawkeye, She-Hulk, Batman '66, maybe a couple others), superhero comics are just flogging the same styles, tropes, etc. to death.

I picked up Claremont's Nightcrawler #1. I intend on thinking of it as "What if the real Nightcrawler was transported to some horrible alt-future?"
Thumbing through the issue, I see that Nightcrawler's apartment has on its wall, large prints of (cover illustrations from) Excalibur #1 (1988) and Classic X-Men #1 (1986).

I moved from Barcelona with my wife, so I told a friend to just stockpile them for me, back there. The missus appreciated that Wuppertal, of all the cities in the region, that one was my favorite (followed by Dresden). BTW, do you know "Der Krieger ind die Kaiserin" was filmed there?

I think there is still good stuff to be found at Marvel, you just have to look away from most of the team books and big crossover/event related stories, and stick with second tier solo characters. I was an X-Men fan as well back in the Claremont days, but the franchise has just gotten too bloated these days. Same for the Avengers. She-Hulk, Silver Surfer, and Daredevil are all great reads. I also checked out Iron Fist #1, and it looks promising. Ms. Marvel has also been entertaining. Both DC and Marvel are not especially creative or interesting places these days on the whole, but between the two I feel like Marvel is more willing to take some chances with less exposed characters, artists with unique styles, and non-standard superhero fare.

I even know director Tom Tykwer's brother a little from when I was working at the local comic book store - we were selling tickets for the open air cinema events he did in the summer. Oh, and you have good taste in cities!

And I agree with Randle-El that Marvel has some incredibly good books right now. Hawkeye, She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Daredevil, Ms Marvel, Elektra are all wonderful reads. Heck, I'm even enjoying Invaders after thinking Starman's James Robinson had been replaced by a Skrull based on his later DC output.
