Interesting they let that run in USA today, but in all the industry interviews (Like CBR) everyone at Marvel is constantly saying 'it's not a reboot'.

Heh! I just deleted a petulant rant that was far too fanboyish to deserve being read. I guess even after many decades we can stay a little protective of our childhood heroes.
Whenever I read Mr. Alonso's declarations, whether in USA today or at CBR, I am struck by how corporate Marvel comics has grown. That's probably not something new, but it has grown increasingly obvious in recent times. When the top brass mentions Vision in a list of characters that the public is interested in seeing more of, it's clear that they're not talking to actual readers. Who's the targeted audience, then? People who might be interested in picking up a comic if it features that pink guy from "the new movie with all the heroes in it"? Or people who might have a monetary interest in the Marvel branch of Disney if it shows signs of cross-platform marketing accumen?
One thing is sure: while a Marvel reboot will definitely not get me to try more comics (rather the opposite, in fact), it does make me nostalgic for the days when the most outrageous declarations we'd get from the editorial office was that Secret Wars II was "critically acclaimed".

We'll see how it goes. At this point in time, I'm really only interested in a Captain America series (it can be either Steve or Sam with the shield), a "real" Iron Man series (none of this Superior "total dick" Tony Stark that they just foisted on us), and I would love a new Dr. Strange ongoing. Outside of that, I just don't have a ton of interest in starting new books, particularly team books that are just a mish-mash of the most-popular characters instead of having characters being together with some feasible justification of why they are a team.
As for Roquefort Raider's comment about the corporate nature, I long railed against that but realized that it is no use, so just accept it. They are pushing Vision as a "character that the public is interested in", which just tells me that they want him to be in the spotlight for the next few years because he has something big to do with future movies. I've always liked The Vision, but even as an old-time comics fan, he was never a character that made me think, "Man, I just can't get enough Vision. Maybe what he needs is his own ongoing, plus a team-up book and maybe roster spots on at least two different teams."

I can't believe it took them 4 years to copy this particular stunt. Way to stay behind the curve, Marvel!
And I'll probably get a bunch of 'em. I bought all of the new 52 # 1s.

The only thing that would get me back is something akin to a modern version of Heroes Reborn. That was the last time the Marvel Universe felt like that Marvel universe to me. Sure, the Spider-Man and Hulk reboots were mediocre, but the Avengers, Thor and Iron Man of that period were fantastic. Certainly the first two years at least. The Fantastic Four started out great, but Alan Davis only doing three issues was a bummer. I think Claremont's FF run, while flawed, is a tad underrated.
I've just never been a fan of the Illuminati and the Machiavellian take on Reed, T'Challa, Namor, Dr. Strange and Professor X. The Hulk has been a complete mess for awhile now. They simply have no idea what to do with him. The Aaron and Waid run's tanked and that absurd "Doc Green" nonsense was embarrassing to me as a Hulk fan. The lack of organic storytelling, and the complete lack of cohesion and consistency, makes it hard for me to care about this universe anymore.

I'll certainly get whatever Iron Man they do, and Avengers if it's not Hickman. Other than that, we'll see... I suspect we'll see alot of off beat stuff (Like DC is doing), so hopefully they'll be some unique titles to check out.

I really hate the 8 month jump-forward they're doing. This is just an excuse to let the writers change whatever they want while still getting to say: "It's not a reboot - all the old history still stands!".
X-Men did this a while back when they brought Claremont back in a 6 month jump-forward event they called "Revolution". Some of the characters were so changed as to be virtually unrecognizable, mostly for the worse. One change I found interesting was Nightcrawler becoming a priest. But just dropping it in as a done thing was a sad lost opportunity. Seeing Kurt's change and how he made the decision to join the priesthood could have been some interesting stories. Instead of a Revolution we should have seen his evolution.
If a writer wants to write different characters, create new characters - don't just suddenly change the existing ones to match your desired mold. I'm worried there will be a lot of that with this 8 month hop.
Plus I hope they're not going to slap "All-New" at the beginning of every title. I recently decided to personally boycott all titles starting with "All-New".

Unfortunately, it's the nature of the business these days for writers to take their ideas and paste them on to an existing property... I hate it, but it's the way it is... one can only hope they're close to what has come before, really.
I also hate the 'All-New' nonsense.

Like what DC did 6-7 or so years back? So every idea Marvel has is copying a DC marketing stunt? I get the new # 1s, but, geez, DC's two years later thing didn't even work that well, did it? Like I remember reading that it drove away a lot of fans.

I've never seen those type of timeskips work. It didn't work in X-men post Age of Apocalypse (which was a 3 month gap IIRC), it didn't work when Claremont returned (which was a 6 month gap? Not sure about the exact time) and it didn't work for DC recently (wait, 2006? eh... stil recently to me, shut up.)
Because mostly you get either: a) You skip stuff and by the time you get around to tell the original story nobody cares anymore. b) You skip stuff and by the time you get around to tell the original story, it has become blindingly obvious what happened. c) You skip stuff and by the time you get around to tell the original story, you realize that the setup you started with was so illogical that you can't tell a decent story to explain the changes.

To be fair, I think it could be argued that DC You is the result of DC taking notice of Marvel's great success in allowing creators to eschew a house style and create superhero books with unique voices -- Fraction's Hawkeye, Slott's Silver Surfer, Soule's She Hulk, etc. At this point, they're both regurgitating things that the other has already done.

A correction in my last post. I meant Heroes RETURN, not *shudder* Heroes Reborn.
