I've only read the first 50 but in those issues, but it's jaka who tries to bring him out of the world of courtly fops and spineless business men when she buys him a sword to show him his true nature as a fighter for which she gets a cowardly slap in the face. I remember the bit about Jaka giving Cerebus a sword to provoke him out of his complaisance, but I don't remember him slapping her in that sequence. Maybe I'll have a chance to pull out the issue tonight. I'm fairly certain he hits her during the much later "Going Home" sequence, though. Yep, I checked out the issue in question, entitled "The Night Before." Lotta harsh words, no violence between them. Cerebus is a real dick in this one. But Sim intends for the reader to think so here.

Never read Cerebus but it sounds fascinating. However, Dave Sim sounds even more fascinating, in that Klaus Kinski "The man is more interesting than his work" sort of thing. It's something that will have to go on my ever growing "to read" list.

I'd still prefer reading Cerebus to chatting with Sim; Probably my favorite comic series ever written, and a lot better than Fitzcarraldo

And I just want a little window into his madness. I've watched a couple videos of him on Youtube and he definitely seems... off.

I never bothered to watch Fitzcarraldo, Burden of Dreams told the story better than Herzog could have. Exactly what I mean. Cerebus is far more interesting than the man behind the work. It's Nosferatu: Phantom Der Nacht multiplied by Aguirre The Wrath of God.

Possibly in another story...?

Cerebus did a lot of awful things to women (especially Astoria), but I don't recall him ever hitting Jakka. Maybe Red Sophia?

how true it is i don't know - my job is simply to repost hearsay and rumour and pass it off as fact. I love this...that's gotta be a signature quote right there

I did not remember that. to be fair I described the scene wrongly. it's when she comes back to try and talk him out of going down in flames in the war rather than the sword.
