Final Thoughts on John StewartTo be honest, I did not pay much attention to John Stewart until the Cartoon -- Justice League Unlimited came out and that cartoon established my opinion of a hard working Green Lantern that spends most of his time trying to cool down the hotheaded Flash of which was cocky, arrogant, and always getting into trouble and that's when I started to liked this Green Lantern more than the Flash. That version of the Flash never, ever, had a plan of attack -- but he's believe in his superpowers that he can overcome many of those threats and sometimes he never did amount any amounts of beans about it. John, on the other hand, valued planning, careful considerations, and having additional plans of attack is a noteworthy exception to his cause and the Justice League. His role is quite resourceful and having said that -- I felt that he wasn't appreciated that much and that bothers me a lot. I watched this video clip many times in the past year and he's really knows what to do in a crisis and shows his level-headedness and resourcefulness to a level that most Green Lanterns never really has. That's a dedicated Lantern and that's why I started to have more respect for him and becoming a favorite of mine. This is a really cool panel here -- that really sums up John Stewart's role in the Green Lantern's Corps and this picture and words sums up just beautifully! The punchline "But those little blue guys knew me better than I know myself" -- speaks volume of John's Role as the Green Lantern and he earned the rights to wear that ring. One of most responsible Lantern to date and rightly so. Kyle Rayner is up next and that's might start around Friday and/or Saturday ...

I hadn't considered Sidney Poitier, but that totally makes sense to me

Number 4 - Kyle Rayner, Green LanternI don't know anything about Kyle at all when he wore this costume and I've did not know that he existed. Therefore, I'm not going to bother with this Kyle at all. I'm going to explore this Kyle Rayner with his association with the New Titans, Justice League, and the Green Lantern Corps. I'll start possibly late Friday Night and/or Saturday Morning and spend some time with him -- I should be done in a week and I have a busy Sunday and Monday with personal projects and might get it done a week from tomorrow at the earliest. I have three more Lanterns to go -- Alan Scott, Abin Sur, and Hal Jordan to go and possibly this thread will be done by the early part of August and this is going to be my last review thread that I do. I'm getting out of this business when Hal Jordan is finished and I'll spend more time on him -- because I know Hal Jordan the best. Anyway, I've want to get this out of the way and start winding this down to the end and do the best job that I can.

IonKyle Rayner as Ion, from Green Lantern 3 #145 (February 2002). Art by Dale Eaglesham.Green Lantern 3, #145Kyle as IonFor a brief period, Rayner achieved godhood as Ion after absorbing the energy Hal Jordan had left in Earth's Sun during "The Final Night" storyline, which had merged and grown with energies released after Oblivion's defeat. With his new powers, Rayner could bend time, space and reality, allowing himself, for example, to be in many places at once. The drawback of being one with everything was that Rayner could no longer sleep or separate himself from the overwhelming responsibilities these abilities imposed upon him. Rather than sacrifice his humanity, Rayner abandoned omnipotence, bleeding off the vast power, recharging the Central Power Battery on the Guardians' home planet and headquarters, Oa, and helping to create a new group of Guardians in the process.
Before he purged all of the power, though, he modified his ring and conjured a new Corps uniform to reflect his new maturity. Once again limited only by his willpower and imagination, Rayner's ring could still affect yellow and would always harbor a lifeline of power without a time limit on its power, is keyed directly to him, and would always return to him, though it still required charging to reach full power.
After the brutal gay bashing of his young assistant and friend Terry Berg, Rayner went on a lengthy self-imposed exile into space. Before leaving, he placed John Stewart, recently recovered from his paraplegia and given a new power ring, into his spot in the Justice League. On his return, he discovered that Jade had begun seeing someone new and was doing so in his own apartment. He left New York and spent some time trying once again to find his place on Earth and ended up staying with his mother for a brief time.
The above information in italic is from Wikipedia and I did not know this at all. I was having Lunch with a friend of mine today and he gave me the scoop about him and pretty much that his power level is greater than his previous stint as Green Lantern. He and I talked briefly about him and I was hoping that I will learn more about it on a later date. Anyway, I learned something new and he became Ion in 2002. I did not read any of the Green Lantern books at that time and all this is completely new to me. I wanted to share this with you today.

Creativity of Kyle with his Ring of PowerExamples of ... In Green Lantern #140 With Donna Troy Rayner grew up enamored with Superman and Batman, though he had only a passing knowledge of Earth's various Green Lanterns. This soon changed, and he found that the Green Lantern ring was the ultimate expression of his fertile imagination. While in battle, he often used the ring's power to create constructs of just about anything his artistic mind could imagine: other superheroes, anime characters, mystical characters, mechas, futuristic weapons, and original characters from his comic books. While other members of the Green Lantern Corps questioned the practicality of those constructs, they often made Rayner an unpredictable and formidable opponent. An artist that uses his creativity (to it's fullest) can be a dangerous ring bearer. Locations, Titans, Justice League, and EtcAt first Kyle took possession of the ring very lightly. His girlfriend, Alexandra DeWitt, encouraged him to be more responsible, create his own version of the Green Lantern uniform, and helped him train for his new role as a superhero, but she was later murdered and stuffed in a refrigerator by the supervillain Major Force. Alexandra DeWittMajor ForceThe guilt over this event drove Rayner to take his role more seriously, and as a result he strove to be the best Green Lantern he could be in honoring of Alex's memory. Rayner then moved to New York City since Los Angeles reminded him of Alex and he needed a fresh start. It was an excellent idea to the start and I was pleased by this event. After relocating to New York City, Rayner joined the superhero group the Titans for a brief time, during which he dated Donna Troy, but eventually became a member of the Justice League (JLA). He initially clashed with the Flash (Wally West) early in his career. West had worked with Jordan since childhood and had reservations about Kyle as the new Green Lantern, but he eventually became one of Rayner's best friends and biggest supporters and rightfully so. Wally West and Kyle RaynerSurprisingly, another of Kyle's biggest supporters amongst the League was Batman, who often treated him with more respect than he showed certain other League members (including his predecessors as Green Lantern—Jordan, Gardner, and Stewart), most likely due to the fact that Kyle was willing to learn from others where other Lanterns focused on their rings and pre-existing skills. Rayner also entered a romantic relationship with Jade and formed friendships with the Golden Age Green Lantern (Jade's father, Alan Scott), Green Arrow (Connor Hawke), Arsenal (Roy Harper), Warrior (Guy Gardner), and John Stewart (who at the time was a former Green Lantern). During his superhero career Rayner accumulated a rogues gallery that included characters from his predecessors' pasts such as Dr. Polaris and Dr. Light. With Doctor Polaris here.

Number Three - Alan Scott Green Lantern
One of my favorite superheroes in the Golden Age of Comics
If I had the money -- I would go to Los Angeles and have a professional costume maker to make me a costume exactly like this one and wear it to every Comic-Con, Halloween Parties, and whatnot -- because this costume is got to be the COOLEST COSTUME EVER! For me alone, this is so far out -- the purple and green cape and the green leggings, red shirt, and everything else is so bold and imaginative -- that any man who wears this will STAND OUT IN THE CROWD and be noticed. I just fell in love with it ever since -- I saw this costume when I was 7 years old. I saw this reading one of my old comic books that my Grandfather had when he was young man then. He and I had long conversations about it and shared some things that I'll get to that on a later date. Origin of Alan Scott Green Lantern

Alan's Beginnings Thousands of years ago, a mystical "green flame" fell to Earth in ancient China as a meteor. A voice in the flame predicted that it would act three times: once to bring death, once to bring life, and once to bring power. For the first prophecy, a lamp-maker crafted the green metal of the meteor into a lamp. In fear and as punishment for what they thought sacrilege, the local villagers killed him, only to be destroyed by a sudden burst of the green flame.I find this fascinating and worthy to be mentioned here and having said that; the three prophecies -- started like this one as the first was interesting and the villagers didn't care for the green lamp and that why they killed the lamp maker in the first place. It's took me awhile to understand this and once I understand this and it's very difficult for me to explain it in writing; but death has to be taken place to fulfill this in all entirety. For the second, in modern times, the lamp came into the hands of a patient of a mental institution who fashioned the lamp into a modern train lantern. The green flame restored him to sanity and gave him a new life. This is fairly easy to explain and that's why the 2nd one has to happen so that someone can be restored and gave him another opportunity for a second chance in life. This prophecy has to be fulfilled so that the lamp is molded into a modern train lantern giving the third prophecy a chance to figure out his name is as a crimefighter that he is. For the third, by 1940, after having already fulfilled the first two-thirds of this prophecy, the lantern fashioned from the meteoric metal fell into the hands of Alan Scott, a young railroad engineer. Following a railroad bridge collapse, the flame instructs Scott in how to fashion a ring from its metal, to give him fantastic powers as the superhero Green Lantern. He adopts a colorful costume of red, purple, yellow, and brown. He becomes a crimefighter in his first adventure, defeating the crooks who caused the accident. He also discovers his powers' weakness to wood when he is bludgeoned with a club. Alan is a founding member of the Justice Society of America, and is its second chairman. This is when the mystical "Starheart" came into play and that's why in the early days of Green Lantern his body is glowing in green "flames" and that's made Alan Scott into a mystical being that's considered him to be quite powerful and one of the most powerful in the early days of the Justice Society of America. His weakness is rather easy to understand because he was hit by a club of wood and any other plant based material that's related to wood. He created his ring and his fabulous costume to fight crime. Italicized Text is from Wikipedia. He is a founding member of the Justice Society of America and the All-Star Squadron. He did served in the Sentinels of Magic of which I know very little about. All-Star Squadron is a retcon group and was created to give the Justice Society of America more exposure. He was the 2nd Chairman of the JSA. Justice Society of America All Star Squadron

I kind of wish they'd kept Alan's Sentinel name and Kyle's Ion name.
They're still green lanterns of course but it gives them some distinction.

Great write up on Alan Scott @mechagodzilla. The Golden Age Green Lantern is my favorite JSA hero. He must have been color blind with his costume color choices! Although I did like his GA costume I liked his updated costume as Sentinel. I know Superman, Batman & Wonder Woman are considered DC's Trinity but for me the JSA trinity is Flash (Jay), Green Lantern (Alan) & Hawkman (Carter).
