Kay-Zar, Zay-boo, Sub Marrin-uh, Mag-Neat-O*, obviously - what's wrong with you people?
On the other hand, I still find it hard to believe that Busiek isn't Boozy-ek, even if Kurt (B) says it isn't (and what does he know, anyway?)
(* if Magneto was spelt Mag-Neat-O or Magnet-O, you just know he would have been a DC character along with all the other "oh jeez, I can't think of a decent name, just add -o" characters: Universo, Starro, Computo, Evilo, Metamorpho)

Mysterio never posed a problem for me: I just assumed it was pronounced like the English word "mysterious", except for the last syllable. I always liked Mysterio's name and his whole look with the blank globe or whatever it was. But IIRC, the character himself was a bit lame - just a disgruntled stage magician or something, wasn't he? With that look and that name, I always felt he should have been more formidable, with some "real" supernatural powers, not just stage illusions. The very first Spider-man comic I saw was a neighbour's copy, and it featured Mysterio. I, too, expected him to be far more powerful than a simple stage magician slash special effects guy! (And I pronounce his name Mis TAY rio, 'cause I don't know any better!) |

I say "Mis-TEER-ee-o" And I say "Kuh-ZAR" and "Zah-BU" And "Mag-NET-o" When I was a kid, I said "Sub-muh-REEN-er" because I wasn't familiar with the word "mariner." But my out-of-state cousins who had access to the reruns of the Marvel Super-Heroes cartoon show said it was pronounced Sub-MAR-in-er on the show and I was able to change my pronunciation because it made sense. I get kind of annoyed when I hear Kamandi as "Kuh-MUN-dee." It's Kah-MAN-dee." Because he's from "Command D." Duh. My thoughts exactly. Though I always said kay-ZAR. Never saw X-Men 10 either. And it's still hard for me to say Mag-NEAT-o. I always bought it was ee-LONG-gated man, too. I'd never heard the word before. Plus I thought that "High Evolutionary" was pronounced "Dan-by in dah UN-dah-woild." |

The '66 Marvel Super-Heroes and '67 Spider-Man cartoons were my source for a number of pronunciations back in the day, but since Dr. Strange didn't appear in either, I struggled with Agamotto and Dormammu.
I settled on Ah-guh-MAH-toe and DOR-muh-moo, which may or may not be correct. |

I started off with Kuh-Zar, then I got the majority sense of it actually being Kay-Zar, and switched, though not without frequent lapses, to the majority rules. Cuz, I guess, they aren't really fightin' words.
Mis-Teer-io for me. Rhymes with cheerio, if said round oats were female.

I think I used to hear dor-mam-yu when I was a kid, for some reason, but dor-mam-oo sounds better now.
Similarly with Umar, as a child I used to hear yu-mar, but now I find oo-mar sounds right.

I go with Agga-mo-to and Dor-man-oo, though the first one is one a bit shaky ground.
I can't see Elongated man as anything other than E-long-gated.
Bizarre to me is the film pronunciation of Professor Xavier as Ecks-ay-vee-uh. To me, he will always be Zay-vee-uh. I actually know a couple of Xaviers in real life - they both pronounce their name somewhere between Zavv-ee-ay and Zavv-ee-ur. Oh, those wacky French!
