Correct or not hes Kuh-Czar to me, and Nay-More is a Sub-Muh-Reen-er, and Mag-Neat-o says only a tool would be a Mag-Net-O (tool or an aussie).

I initially pronounced it "Kay-zar", but as I became interested in languages, it became difficult for me to accept "Ka" as being pronounced "Kay". "Pa" is never pronounced "pay", "Ma" is not "may", "bra" is not "bray". So I settled on "KAH-ZAR", with both syllables accented. That sounded more like a phrase in a "jungle language" to me, a monosyllabic, "primitive" language.
I always thought of Dr. Strange's enemy as the Dread DOOR-mah-MOO, with accents on the first and third syllables.
While the double t's imply that the first "o" in Agamotto" should be short, I always pronounced that with a long "o": "Agga MOE toe". And Cytorrak, in my mind's ear, had an accent on the first syllable: "SIGH tore rack", although I wouldn't be too aggravated to hear it pronounced with the accent on the second syllable.

Par-Key-A-Ful-La I forgot about Namor - were readers ever told how to pronounce that one? I never have settled on anything consistent, sometimes hearing nay'-mor, sometimes nah'-mor, sometimes nay'-mer, and all kinds of other variations, none of which has ever sounded obviously better or more correct to me than the others. |

For me, "Ka-Zar" is pronounced "Kuh-ZAR." Almost like "Czar," in fact. yeah, I think of it as more like "K'zar" than anything else. |

KAY-SAR. KAY-SAR. KAY-SAR. Every time I see a Ka-zar comic now, KAY-SAR feels right. Silly to think I ever thought it was KAH-ZAR, but the jungle setting threw me off. At least I'll use that as my excuse.

I thought it was Mareenerh until, one afternoon, I stumbled upon his cartoon. My first introduction to Kazar was X-Men #10. I say Dor-mah-mu, Aga-moe-toe, Sit-or-ack, Oo-nus ( Unus the Untouchable), and Oo-nuh-sigh-on ( Unuscione) She's the scion of Unus! It really bothered me when people called her Unuscione when AoX came out.I thought it was pronounced Unus because it's supposed to alliterate phonetically with untouchable. |

How has no one brought up Ras Al Ghul yet? The animated series pronounced it "Reish Al Ghul," but the Nowlan film pronounced it "Ros," and I've heard others pronounce it "Raas."
Also, for those who read Usagi Yojimbo, I was surprised to learn from Stan Sakai himself that Gen is pronounced with a hard G.

I thought it was pronounced Unus because it's supposed to alliterate phonetically with untouchable. That was my understanding as well until reading this post! |

Well, Ra's was created by Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams, and O'Neil wrote the B:TAS episode (The Demon's Quest) where Talia gives the correct pronunciation of her father's name. That sort of settles it for me. |

When I was a kid, I said "Sub-muh-REEN-er" because I wasn't familiar with the word "mariner." Same here. I remember reading a comic where someone, a guy on a submarine Namor was attacking, shouted "It's the SubmarEENer!" but I didn't realize at the time it was meant to be a mispronunciation. |
