For me, "Ka-Zar" is pronounced "Kuh-ZAR." Almost like "Czar," in fact. This is how I've always said it too. The cat is Zar-BOO, as far as I'm concerned. Also, Mag-NEAT-oh was always a no-brainer because of the generator that MDG mentioned. It sorta surprises me that anyone could mispronounce Magneto's name. I pronounce this muh-STEER-ee-oh. Dor-MAH-Moo is how it was pronounced on the Spidey cartoon where Doc appeared in the 90s. ANd that's how I always pronounced it too...along with Ag-a-MOT-toe. How has no one brought up Ras Al Ghul yet? I always pronounced it as Razz-AL-gull. Isn't that basically how it's said in the Batman Begins movie too?

Now that I think about it I've heard Thanos said two different ways. Let's see if I can do this right ... Thay-nos and then phonetically Than-os, which I would assume is what is correct if Starlin did indeed get the name from Thanatos.
Also, I can't spell it and I never pretended to say Thor's hammer's name till I watch the movie. I just glossed right over it reading Thor comics.

I always pronounced it as Razz-AL-gull. Isn't that basically how it's said in the Batman Begins movie too? It is. And shame on them for (evidently) not consulting the creators, Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams, who had a specific pronunciation in mind. Like it or not, the man's name is Raysh-ahl-Gool.
I really like Batman Begins, but that "Razz" business is embarrassingly jarring.

I think it should be thann-os for the reason you mention and I even think it sounds better that way, but for some reason I still tend to mentally hear thay-nos when I read a story with him in it. I always think that if Not Brand Ecch were still around they should call him Thermos and draw his helmet accordingly.

I think that Thay-nos sounds more grandiose and if there's anyone that thinks well of himself it's Thanos. Like the joke in Corky Romano were his undercover name is Pissant but he tries to sell it as Pu-ssant ... it's French.

Ah, I see...so I'm actually pronouncing it wrong. Just goes to show you: just because they pronounce a name a certain way in a movie adaptation, it doesn't mean that it's actually the correct pronunciation (which I assumed it must be, cause...like...you know, it's in the movie). As a Star Wars-related aside (it all comes back to Star Wars with me ), I read about the Wookiee home planet of Kashyyyk long before I ever managed to get hold of a bootleg video of the dreaded Star Wars Holiday Special (the place where the planet is first mentioned). As a reader, I had always assumed that the planet was pronounced CASH-eek and I pronounced it that way for years, but when I finally got hold of a copy of the Holiday Special, I was dismayed to find that everyone in that show was pronouncing it Ka-ZOOK. I spent the next decade or so, conditioning myself to pronounce it Ka-ZOOK, only to have the accepted pronunciation changed back to CASH-eek in Episode III: Return of the Sith. Very annoying indeed. The moral here is to NEVER trust George Lucas.

The GotG film refers to him as Than-ose rather than Than-oss, the later being the One True Way of pronunciation, as far as I am concerned, and which seems to be confirmed by the Wiki page on Thanatos - Than-a-toss rather than Than-a-toze or Than-a-tose.

Some of these replies crack me up. "I don't care what the dictionary says. I've pronounced it SOO-per-FLOO-us since I was a kid and I'm gonna keep on pronouncing it that way!"
Cei-U! I love you guys!

OK, we've figured out how to say "Sub-MARE-in-er", but I can't be the only one who isn't clear on NAM-or or NAY-mor? As for the names of comic-book professionals, I remember being unsure of a lot of names at Marvel in the '80s('Budiansky', 'Yanchus', 'Buscema' and 'Paty') At DC, I wondered about 'Aparo'('ape' or 'app'?), and 'Kanigher' gave me pause when I realized my pronunciation was basically 'Ka- "N-word"! '

It's NAY-mor. I asked Roy Thomas about this years ago and he told me that's how Sub-Mariner creator Bill Everett pronounced it. As for those pros' names, if memory serves they are pronounced BUD-ee-YAN-skee, YANK-us, Boo-SAY-muh, PAT-ee (it's just "Patty" with one T), Uh-PAR-o and (this one I'm really not certain of) KAN-i-jurr. Cei-U! That's pronounced SAY-YOU!

One thing that's always bothered me is people (including the movies and cartoons) pronouncing Magneto's alias, Erik Lensherr, as "Lenshurr". If you actually look at the name and break it up, remembering that Magneto's native language would be German, it's actually pretty clearly "Lens-herr", pronounced "Lens-hair". Herr being the German word for man, and the name an obvious SF in-joke based on EE Doc Smith's Lensman series.
